Opis:
The inorganic part of bone tissue is mainly composed of Ca. In adult people, the resorption processes lead to the removal of minerals from calcified tissues. Women’s bodies are particularly vulnerable to a decrease in the concentration of Ca because the osteolysis processes that occur with age are compounded by hormonal changes during the menopause. The aim of the study was to determine the age-dependent concentration of Ca in the bones and teeth of adult women. The object of the research was calcified tissues bones and teeth (n=323). Samples were taken from women aged 26 - 85 years (mean: 55.7 years), living in Poland, in the Silesian Province. Samples were submitted to wet microwave mineralization (spectrally pure nitric acid). The Ca concentration in teeth and bones was determined with the AAS method. The concentration of Ca in the tested samples of calcified tissues from women aged 26 - 85 years was 10.1‑32.0%, and the average concentration was 16.7±3.5% in bones and 22.2±4.7% in teeth. The calcified tissues, from both bones and teeth, show a progressive decrease in the Ca concentration that occurs as women age. The decreasing level of Ca in bone and teeth was statistically significant (p<0.05). There was a difference in what age calcium is released from bones and teeth. The research showed that a decrease in the Ca concentration in bone tissue occurs earlier than it happens in teeth (about 10 years). The decrease in the Ca concentration in calcified tissues of teeth was slight greater than in bones, indicating slightly greater mobilization of Ca from the tissues of teeth.

Opis:
There are a number of factors to keep our health in good condition. One of them is the role of the proper amount of nutrient metals which play the important role in many reactions in the body and it becomes increasingly evident that keeping a balance level of nutrient metals in every organ is very important for maintaining a healthy body, although metals comprise only a fraction of total body weight (mg). They play crucial role for many body functions in the metabolic regulations of the human body including transporting oxygen, normalizing the nervous system. The present investigation is focused to find out the different nutrient metals that exist in the vegetable Cucurbita pepo (squash) a source of natural nutrient metals abandance and to determine the relative concentration of each metal element. Investigation has been performed on the skin, the flesh, the seed, the leaves, the stems and the roots of squash to determine the relative levels of concentrations of various metals such as elements such as Al, Ca, Cd, Co,Cr, Fe,K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb and Zn. The Atomic Absorption Spectrometry technique is used. The proper vegetable consumption can improve the mineral and trace metal regulation and reduce cardiovascular diseases and certain cancer risks.

Opis:
Diabetes is a major disease condition that is accountable for 5% of annual cause of death globally and it continues to escalate. In this research the levels of minerals in persons with type 2 diabetes were investigated using hair as the biopsy specimen. The philosophy behind is that minerals are involved in countless metabolic functions in all phases of the life process, an imbalance of which can have widespread implication, while hair due to its physiology serves an invaluable record of the body's exposure to minerals. Hair metal testing is a fascinating new diagnostic tool and often gives unexpected clues to mineral imbalances in the body. In executing the research samples of head hair collected from 6 type 2 diabetic patients were washed to remove exogenous contaminants, then subjected to open vessel acid digestion and subsequent analysis for the elements Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu Fe, K, Mg, Na and Zn using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FLAAS). After comparing the concentration of the elements to a range that is considered to be normal it was found that Ca, Zn, Fe, Mg, K, Cu, Cd and Cr were off range while Na was normal. Upon investigating the function and effects of the elements that were off range it was found that a deficiency of chromium and an excess of iron could be a possible cause of diabetes.

Opis:
Calotropis (Asclepiadaceae) commonly known as “madar” is a useful medicinal plant. The two species i.e. Calotropis gigantea and Calotropis procera are to a great extent having a very similar chemical properties, but the colours of their flowers are different. The pH of latex of these two species has been found different in the present study. The temperature effects have been noticed on their pH values which is varying from 7.2 to 8.1 between the temperatures 25 °C to 45 °C and then remains constant for Calotropis gigantia. The milky latex contains hydrocarbons, fatty acids, sterols and terpenels. Seven spots have been observed on the TLC plates; out of which 3 were identified as calotoxin, uscharin and calactin. Aluminum, calcium, cadmiun, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, magnese, magnesium, nickel, lead, and zinc metal elements were investigated in the latex and similarly in the leaves and bark from the AA spectra. The amount of magnese was found the highest in the latex of both species but calcium was found highest in leaves and bark of both species. Copper, chromium and lead were not found at all in latex but a very little amount of copper and lead were found in leaves and bark. The atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used to investigate the metals which were measured in the order of ppm.

Opis:
The current study was aimed to find out the heavy metal concentration of groundwater in the Veppanthattai block. Here, 45 water samples from different sites were collected during the year 2015 at post monsoon, and Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn heavy metal content was analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS), The obtained results were then compared with the WHO standard for the specific highest pollution level. Accordingly, some or all water samples are above the permissible limit, particularly for Cd metal (all samples). The elevated concentration of cadmium in water samples of the study area may be due to agricultural runoff, as pesticides and cadmium-containing fertilizer have been used. The study showed that without proper treatment, the groundwater of the study area is not suitable for domestic applications.

Eichhornia crassipes is a floating macrophyte. It is capable of assimilating large quantities of toxic metals, some of which are essential for plant growth. Water Hyacinth grows rapidly in water with a high level of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous. The plants have been shown to absorb trace elements such as Silver (Ag), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and Copper (Cu) reported by Lu et al [1]. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of heavy metals in different parts of the Water Hyacinth . Such a detail study has been taken for the first time. It is expected that the metal distribution within the plant species would be a representation of the concentration and distribution of the water in which it is found. Plants have the ability to accumulate non-essential and essential trace elements and this ability could be harnessed to remove pollutant metals from the environment. Aluminum, cadmium, calcium, copper, iron, lead, magnesium and zinc have been found in different amounts in roots, stems , leaves and flowers.

Doping, although was born as a medication and not with the purpose of enhancing performance, is a widespread practice in all sports, between amateur and gym-goers. The Italian sports federations were in second place worldwide for positive doping-test, after Russia. This review focuses on the analysis of data collected by Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) in the 2012–2014 period, showing that the most commonly used substances were anabolic androgenic agents, glucocorticoids, diuretics and stimulants. Prevention in doping could be a key to limit the damage caused by this harmful practice both, for the physical health and the athlete’s moral integrity and anti-doping campaigns should be direct as much as possible to young people, since about two-thirds of adolescents appear to be dissatisfied with their body. Even coordination between the various professionals that surround athletes could help fight doping by planning specific training and adapted to the individual athlete, taking into account the actual physical limitations and physical features of each.

Opis:
The zinc and lead industry generates substantial quantities of waste. Among the many types of wastes, such as dust or liquid, a large proportion are solid waste such as slags. The purpose of the study was the qualitative and quantitative assessment of the short rotary kiln slags and slags deposited in a hazardous waste landfill originating from zinc and lead metallurgy. This assessment represents the primary step in evaluating materials such as slags concerning their potential for substantial applications, such as process for metal separation. Additionally, this evaluation forms the basis for a comprehensive environmental study. The concentrations of the four predominant metals – Fe>Pb>Zn>Cu – and accompanying elements – Na>Ca>K>Ni>Mn>Cr – were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) after aqua regia digestion. A large variation was found in the phase analysis of the studied materials based on SEM, XRD, X-ray microanalysis, and BCR sequential extraction. The BCR analysis revealed the occurrence of major metals in four different fractions: acid-soluble, reducible, oxidizable, and residual. Pb was mainly present in the acid-soluble fraction, while Fe, Cu, and Zn were present in the residual fraction.

Archeological studies require a precise and interdisciplinary approach. Use of the noninvasive methods in urban area investigations is expected because they do not result in any changes in land architecture plans. Very good combination fulfilling such demands are geochemical analyses of: pH, Eh, conductivity and heavy metals concentrations in soils and the results of the ground penetrating radar method. These methods allow for a more precise selection of places of interest and can be also used for a more accurate calibration and better interpretation of subsequent results. Proposed methodology gives good final results thanks to complementarity of each method and can be used under variable conditions.
