Opis:
Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Be$\text{}_{x}$Se, Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Se and Zn$\text{}_{1-x-y}$Be$\text{}_{x}$Mg$\text{}_{y}$Se mixed crystals grown from the melt with different concentrations of Be and Mg have been characterized by photoluminescence and photoacoustic methods. An increase in band gap energy with increasing Be and Mg contents was observed. The photoacoustic spectroscopy was also employed for evaluation of thermal diffusivity of mixed Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Be$\text{}_{x}$Se crystals with different beryllium contents.

Opis:
The Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Se crystals were grown by modified Bridgman method for x ranging from 0 to 0.44. The photoacoustic spectroscopy was employed for evaluation of the band gaps of series Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Se mixed crystals with different composition. The photoacoustic spectra were measured at 300 K and 90 K using continuous wave excitation in the range from 400 nm to 800 nm. The increase in the band-gap energy with increasing Mg content is observed. The photoacoustic results are compared with photoluminescence and transmission spectra.

Opis:
This paper presents results of investigations of the Raman scattering of vibrational modes in Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Se crystals for the range of composition 0 < x < 0.43. The Raman polarized spectra of Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$Se were measured at room temperature. The typical Raman spectrum shows four peaks which can be interpreted as longitudinal and transverse optical ZnSe-like and MgSe-like phonons. The ZnSe-like and MgSe-like vibrations can be described by the modified random element isodisplacement model. Results of the Raman measurements in the investigated range of composition confirm the two-mode behaviour of the optical phonons in the mixed Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Mg$\text{}_{x}$ Se crystals.

Opis:
New structures aiming at controlling the ferromagnetic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum wells are presented. The carrier density is controlled by applying a voltage across a p-i-n diode. A new method, creating a 2D hole gas by adjusting the distance between the quantum well and surface, offers opportunities for a broader range of structures.

Opis:
Unreconstructed CdTe(100) surface prepared by ion bombardment and annealing is investigated by angle-resolved photoemission. The experimental band structure E(k$\text{}_{∥}$) is determined along high-symmetry lines of the surface Brillouin zone by measuring energy-distribution curves of photoelectrons. Different criteria were applied to separate surface and bulk related spectral features, e.g. calculating the position of bulk-derived emissions in the frame of the free-electron final state approximation assuming k conservation. In this way, most dispersing features could be explained. All remaining features were compared with theoretical surface band structures for different polar surface terminations which were calculated within a layer doubling procedure on the basis of an EHT-fit to the bulk band structure. The investigated CdTe(100)-(1×1) surface could be identified as Cd terminated. Two surface bands were observed, one located above the valence-band edge and the second in the open pocket of the projected bulk band structure along the Γ̅K̅ direction. At 4.6 eV binding energy an additional weakly dispersing band was found, which contains mixed surface and bulk character. The high density of bulk states associated with this edge of the heteropolar gap is also expected to contribute to this feature.

Opis:
In this work we employ technique of optically detected cyclotron resonance for evaluation of the role of localization processes in CdTe/CdMnTe and CdMnTe/CdMgTe quantum well structures. From microwave-induced changes of excitonic emissions we evaluate magnitude of potential fluctuations (Stokes shift), correlate optically detected cyclotron resonance results with the results of time-resolved experiments and discuss nature of recombination processes in the limit of a strong localization.
