Opis:
Within a spin-polarized LMTO approach in the atomic-sphere approximation we calculate ab initio the magnetic properties of various binary and ternary multilayers composed of Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, V and Cu. The emphasis lies on the indirect exchange interaction of the magnetic sandwiches across the antiferromagnetic or non-magnetic spacers, and on the profiles of the intrinsic resp. induced magnetic moments. Among other results we find (i) that Ni is very sensitive on its neighborhood and that (ii) at the interface to Fe, V gets almost as strongly polarized as Cr, whereas in the interior layers, the V sandwich remains non-polarized.

Opis:
Oscillations of magnetoresistance and thermoelectric power vs. both nonmagnetic spacer and ferromagnetic slab thicknesses are studied in the current-perpendicular-to-plane geometry, in terms of the single-band tight-binding model. The spin-dependent conductance was calculated from the Kubo formula by means of a recursion Green function technique, and the thermoelectric power directly from the well-known Onsager relations. In general, the observed oscillations may have either just one or two periods. In the latter case the long period of oscillations, related to spectacular beats, is apparently of non-RKKY type. The relative thermoelectric power oscillations are strongly enhanced in comparison with those of the giant magnetoresistance, have the same periods, but different phases and a negative bias.

Opis:
Influence of temperature on magnetization process was investigated in exchange coupled $Tb_{26}Co_{74}$/Co/$Fe_{20}Ni_{80}$ films. Temperature dependences of exchange bias field and coercivity of the $Fe_{20}Ni_{80}$ layer were obtained for films with various thicknesses of the Co spacer. The results obtained were interpreted in terms of changes of magnetic interface localization.

We investigate how the static and dynamical magnetic properties of Fe/Cr finite superlattices with antiferromagnetic coupling depend on the ratio between the uniaxial anisotropy constant and the interlayer exchange constant of Fe films. The spin waves are calculated by considering dipole interaction, intralayer and interlayer exchange coupling, uniaxial anisotropy, in presence of an external field. The calculated spectra are compared with recent experimental Brillouin scattering data which exhibit two spin waves peaks.

Opis:
A ferromagnetic layered composite ABAB....ABA is studied by means of Green function approach. Our attention is focused on the elementary excitations and low temperature magnetisation behavior. In the presented paper we take also into account the effects of damping due spin-spin interaction. As a result not only the positions and relative intensities of resonance peaks are obtained, but also the resonance line-width is found. On the basis of Green function method the temperature dependence of magnetization of a ferromagnetic layered composite is calculated and the spin wave parameter B in the Bloch's law $T^{3/2}$ is found and presented in dependence of parameters characterizing the system under consideration.

Opis:
The results of various experiments on interlayer exchange coupling will be reviewed. After a general discussion of the theoretical understanding we deal first with 90°-type coupling and show that two mechanisms proposed by Slonczewski can explain our measured data. We furthermore study the coupling of Fe films across Cu$\text{}_{x}$Au$\text{}_{1-x}$ alloys. For the composition with x=0.5, the coupling strength strongly increases with annealing. We believe that this is due to an order-disorder structural transformation in the Cu$\text{}_{x}$Au$\text{}_{1-x}$ alloy. Finally, we present results on epitaxially grown bilayers Fe/EuS(100) and trilayers Fe/EuS/Fe(100). In the latter at room temperature we observe a strong decrease in the coupling strength as a function of the interlayer thickness, with a characteristic length of about 0.1 nm. At low temperatures in the bilayer we find an antiferromagnetic coupling between Fe and the adjacent ferromagnetic EuS.

A ferromagnetic layered composite ABAB...ABA with nonuniform distribution of anisotropy parameter is studied. The effects of damping leading to non-zero line-width of ferromagnetic resonance peaks are also taken into account. As a result the dependence of spin wave parameter B and resonance line-width on parameters characterizing system under consideration were obtained for the case of uniform anisotropy parameter and for quadratic distribution of this parameter in magnetic layers, respectively.

Opis:
Interlayer pseudodipolar coupling between two ferromagnets separated by nonmagnetic spacer is analyzed. It was shown that this type of interaction should induce magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction oscillations. It was also predicted that both magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction decrease with an increase in the spacer thickness. This effect was observed in [permalloy/Cu]$\text{}_{100}$ multilayers.

The effect of electron confinement in ultrathin layered magnetic systems is discussed. This leads to quantum size effects which can be observed by photoemission in overlayers. In magnetic multilayers, spectacular oscillatory behavior of the interlayer exchange coupling results from the electron confinement. The quantum size effects manifest themselves also in the magneto-optical properties of ultrathin films.

Using cavity ferromagnetic resonance and vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance unidirectional, uniaxial and rotatable anisotropies were determined in permalloy(30 nm)/NiMn(56 nm). Resonance field dependence on in-plane angle clearly shows unidirectional and uniaxial anisotropy. Rotatable anisotropy, which acts as internal magnetic field independent of a direction of external magnetic field, is observed on vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance as upward shift of the resonance frequency of Py/NiMn compared to Py film. Even for a small exchange bias field, this shift is significantly large.

The magnetometry and the magnetic force microscopy are used to study the influence of the magnetic domain size on the flux pinning in a superconducting/ferromagnetic bilayer (SFB), in which the S layer is niobium and the F layer is a Co/Pd multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The domain size is pre-defined using the angle-dependent demagnetization. The enhancement of pinning is found to be the strongest, up to a factor of 6, for narrow domains and small magnetic fields. This result differs from the behavior observed in the SFB in which the F layer is Co/Pt. The difference may be attributed to the degree of the disorder in the domain pattern.

Opis:
In this work we report results of ferromagnetic resonance studies of a 6% 15nm (Ga,Mn)As layer, deposited on (001)-oriented GaAs. The measurements were performed with in-plane oriented magnetic field, in the temperature range between 5 K and 120 K. We observe a temperature induced reorientation of the effective in-plane easy axis from $[\overline{1}10]$ to [110] direction close to the Curie temperature. The behavior of magnetization is described by anisotropy fields, $H_{eff}$ (=4π $M-H_{2⊥}$), $H_{2∥},$ and $H_{4∥}$. In order to precisely investigate this reorientation, numerical values of anisotropy fields have been determined using powerful - but still largely unknown - interval calculations. In simulation mode this approach makes possible to find all the resonance fields for arbitrarily oriented sample, which is generally intractable analytically. In "fitting" mode we effectively utilize full experimental information, not only those measurements performed in special, distinguished directions, to reliably estimate the values of important physical parameters as well as their uncertainties and correlations.
