Charge and spin transport in artificial magnetic structures, like nanopillar spin valves, planar tunnel junctions, and mesoscopic double-barrier junctions (single-electron transistors) are briefly surveyed, with particular emphasis on magnetoresistance effects and current-induced magnetic switching and spin dynamics. The methods of spin current generation are also discussed, particularly the method based on spin Hall effect.

A Taylor expansion of dipole-dipole interaction in 2D systems defines a Landau-like local dipolar interaction in spin derivative field. The lowest order of this interaction gives the dipolar anisotropy. The next non-zero order is responsible for the appearance of magnetic vortices and hyperbolic defects. The following non-zero orders indicate the occurrence of higher topological defects such as double circle and of modulations. The arrangement of self-screened topological defects is discussed in agreement with the Monte Carlo simulations and experimental observations. Excited localized modes associated with these defects are classified.

The presented article deals with a model of magnetic reversal in conducting lamination with a one central ferromagnetic layer and two outer non-ferromagnetic layers. Considering a single rigid 180° domain wall spreading through the axially magnetized ferromagnetic layer the calculation of induced eddy currents in lamination is performed. The dependence of single domain wall mobility on the thickness of ferromagnetic layer is displayed. The effect of non-homogeneous magnetic field intensity generated by eddy currents is also discussed.

Current-induced steady precessional modes in standard spin valves are usually excited as an interplay of spin-transfer torque, Gilbert damping, and external magnetic field. We propose an asymmetric spin valve, in which the spin current can excite stationary precessional modes also at zero external magnetic field. We also show that finite temperature can induce transitions between different dynamical modes. These transitions, in turn, lead to telegraph noise in magnetoresistance.

Within the macroscopic model we have calculated spin-transfer torque in asymmetric spin valves in the diffusive transport limit.Such systems exhibit a non-standard angular dependence of the torque, which leads to current-induced precessional modes at zero external magnetic field. We have found that the frequency of magnetoresistance oscillations exhibits hysteretic behavior when the system is driven between two steady precessional regimes. A finite temperature can suppress the irreversibility and give rise to bistable regime where, both the precessional regimes coexist.

An analytically tractable simple model of a magnetic domain wall in a ferromagnetic metal is considered and, assuming the ballistic regime of electronic transport, transmission and reflection coefficients of such a wall are calculated within the stationary scattering theory. It is rederived that for realistic values of electron energies and domain wall widths the transmission coefficient is very close to one and thus an ideal domain wall itself (i.e. not taking into account other aspects such as disorder) does not essentially represent a hindrance to the transport.

We have studied the domain wall propagation at low fields regime in thin glass-coated microwire of composition $Fe_{77.5}Si_{7.5}B_{15}$. It is shown, that power law describes domain wall dynamics at low fields. Such behaviour results from the interaction of the propagating domain wall with the defects present in the material. At high fields, the domain wall mobility becomes negative. This can be explained as a result of domain structure relaxation. The exponent q from power law, which determines the domain wall shape, has a value of 0.19 for both cases, without applied stress and with applied stress of 20 MPa. This means, that domain wall shape is flexible in both measurements.

Opis:
Soft magnetic amorphous Co-based materials prepared by rapid quenching method in the form of thin ribbon are well-known due to their excellent soft magnetic properties as high permeability, low coercivity, and low magnetic losses in kHz range. The amorphous Co-Fe-B-Si material Vitrovac® 6155 U55 produced by Vacuumschmelze GmbH & Co. KG belongs to this class of materials and was investigated in as-delivered state. The aim of this work was to study DC magnetization process by various experimental methods. We have measured magnetization curve by fluxmeter based hysteresis graph and hysteresis loops by three different fluxmeter based hysteresis graphs, exhibiting significant differences. The first and the second hysteresis graph perform the hysteresis loops measurement by the point-by-point method, either with commutative or with summing steps. The third one is AC hysteresis graph working at very low frequencies down to 7 mHz, performing the continuous method. The explanation of this result is based on the structural after effect influencing the domain wall displacement. We assumed that the domain structure consists of very small number of domain walls responsible for magnetization process, which was confirmed by the visualization of static domain structure by a computer-controlled setup based on the Kerr effect.

Opis:
The fast domain wall dynamics of amorphous glass-coated microwires can be changed drastically by properly selected annealing temperature. Here, the effect of thermal annealing on the surface domain structure of microwires is examined. Imaging the surface domain structure by Bitter colloid revealed the periodic pattern in each studied sample. Thermal annealing of microwires results in the five times increase of the domain wall velocity, as compared to the as-cast state. Influence of the surface domain structure on the fast domain wall propagation in microwires is discussed.

The calculation of the temperature dependence of the domain wall coercivity of ultrathin magnetic films with perpendicular anisotropy is reported. In this case, the magnetization reversal is supposed to occur through domain wall motion. The proposed model takes into account thermal bending fluctuations of the domain wall, which is pinned by crystal defects such as grain boundaries. A fitting procedure, applied to recently published experimental data on the field induced domain wall velocity in Au/Co films, allows us to find out realistic values of the involved parameters.

The motion of domain walls in thin garnet films was investigated numerically using Slonczewski's equations of wall motion for the case of periodic drive field. The type of the wall motion was analyzed by observation of phase trajectories and spatio-temporal diagrams. It was found that depending on the period and amplitude of the drive field the motion of the wall is periodic or chaotic, reflecting the character of the dynamical processes connected with horizontal Bloch lines in the wall.

A quantitative analysis of spatio-temporal diagrams, which describe the dynamics of a chosen, spatially extended dynamic system (a domain wall in a thin magnetic garnet film) is presented. Two quantifiers characterizing such diagrams - a correlation function and power spectrum density function - were calculated using solutions of equations of motion. It was found that introducing these quantifiers to the analysis of spatio-temporal diagrams enables one to effectively characterize the type and the properties of motion of the considered system.

The Tb$\text{}_{1.1}$(FeCo)$\text{}_{11}$Ti single crystals demonstrated spin reorientation transition from easy axis to easy plane with the decrease in temperature. The substitution of Co for Fe produces an enhancement of the Curie temperatures, decreases temperatures of spin reorientation transition and appearance of canted structure.

Opis:
Micromagnetic modelling is used to establish the dimensional scaling dependence of the magnetic fields required for domain wall injection and chirality dependent pinning in planar permalloy nanowires with asymmetric structural notches. The wire width, thickness and notch constriction width are systematically varied whilst the axial magnetization is reversed under a globally applied magnetic field. A component of magnetic field transverse to the direction of propagation is applied throughout the reversal to control the domain wall chirality, and therefore determine the strength of pinning at the notch. We deduce that thicker wires with a narrower width cause larger depinning fields and stronger chirality dependent pinning, an observation relevant for domain wall memory applications, and particularly those exploiting chirality dependent pinning in nanowires.
