Opis:
The magnetoelastic phase transitions were observed in MnRhAs$\text{}_{1-x}$P$\text{}_{x}$ system (space group P6̅2m) by X-ray measurements (80 K < T < 300 K). For x = 0.33 and x = 0.4 contents an abrupt change of both lattice parameters and of the elementary cell volume at the metamagnetic transition was detected. The Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker electronic structure calculations performed for MnRhP compound show significant variations of densities of states at the Fermi level, while changing lattice data. The Korringa-Kohn- Rostoker-coherent potential approximation studies of disordered MnRhAs$\text{}_{1-x}$P$\text{}_{x}$ system (x=0.6, 0.8, 1.0) were done at the ferromagnetic region. From our calculations we observe moving of bands near E$\text{}_{F}$, while substituting with isoelectronic metalloid, likely as while changing the crystal data in MnRhP.

Opis:
We present results of the electronic structure study for the solid solution (Fe$\text{}_{1-x}$Ni$\text{}_{x}$)$\text{}_{2}$P (space group P6̅2m). The samples were synthesized for x=0.0 up to 0.15. From the electrical conductivity measurements on these materials, it was verified that resistivity increases with increasing temperature up to the Curie point T$\text{}_{C}$ and changes the slope at T$\text{}_{C}$ decreasing when temperature is raised above T$\text{}_{C}$. To get insight into the possible origin of such observations, we carried out the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker-coherent potential approximation electronic structure calculations for (Fe$\text{}_{1-x}$Ni$\text{}_{x}$)$\text{}_{2}$P in the range of concentration x=0.0 up to 1.0. It was found that alloying with Ni in Fe$\text{}_{2}$ P causes vanishing of spin band splitting and non-rigid band behaving of electronic valence states near the Fermi level. The polarization factor for electrons at E$\text{}_{F}$ changes in (Fe$\text{}_{1-x}$Ni$\text{}_{x}$)$\text{}_{2}$P with increasing x, and interestingly, it reaches maximum at x=0.1, closely to the concentration (x=0.08), when the largest value of T$\text{}_{C}$ and a kink in temperature dependent resistivity were detected.

Opis:
We focused on the interaction between two ferromagnetic cobalt layers through a non-magnetic titanium layer. The magnetic properties of the structure were characterized by ferromagnetic resonance technique. The data were collected as a function of non-magnetic titanium layer thickness. Co/Ti multilayer (Ti(50 Å)/Co(45 Å)/Ti(2-40 Å)/Co(40 Å)/Ti(100 Å)) films were grown onto naturally oxidized p-type single crystal Si (100) substrate at UHV condition with magnetron sputtering system at room temperature. The thickness of Ti spacer layer ranges from 2 to 40 Å with 2 Å steps. We did not observe usual optic and acoustic modes; instead we had two broad overlapped peaks for the films ranged from 6 Å to 40 Å. One interesting result was the high anisotropic resonance field values for these films. Exchange coupling between ferromagnetic layers causes shift on resonance field values but these shifts in our samples were much larger than expected. This large anisotropic behavior is not clear at the moment. Our theoretical model was not able to determine a value for the exchange coupling parameter. One reason can be the close thickness values for Co sublayers. The other reason can be the Ti non-magnetic layer. If titanium did not grow layer by layer on cobalt, the cobalt ferromagnetic layers may behave as a single layer. As a result one cannot observe exchange interaction between ferromagnetic layers through non-magnetic spacer.

Opis:
NiMnSb half-Heusler alloy in the form of a rod has been prepared by rapid quenching (suction-casting) method. The rod is characterized by single phase $C1_b$ crystalline structure with lattice parameter a=5.982 Å. Magnetic measurements reveal an isotropic character of bulk NiMnSb alloy. Our study shows relatively high spin polarization of bulk NiMnSb in the range 35-50%.

Opis:
This report focuses on magnetoelastic properties and critical behaviour of (Fe$\text{}_{1-x}$Ni$\text{}_{x}$)$\text{}_{2}$P system. For low Ni content (x=0.01) an isolated critical point was found. Analysis of this critical behaviour in the frame of molecular field approximation was carried out. Moreover, thermal variations of the lattice parameters, as measured by X-ray diffraction techniques, were studied. The (P,T) phase diagrams obtained for several Ni contents show the evidence that the Curie temperature decreases with pressure. The Mössbauer spectra collected for x = 0.025, 0.1, 0.2, 0.25 at different temperatures are also analysed. The existence of two nonequivalent crystallographic sites occupied by iron atoms as well as local magnetic structure is discussed.

Opis:
The magnetic double perovskite materials of composition A$\text{}_{2}$BB'O$\text{}_{6}$ with A an alkaline earth ion and B and B' a magnetic and non-magnetic transition metal or lanthanide ion, respectively, have attracted considerable attention due to their interesting magnetic properties ranging from antiferromagnetism to geometrically frustrated spin systems and ferromagnetism. With respect to application in spin electronics, the ferromagnetic double perovskites with BB'= CrW, CrRe, FeMo, or FeRe and A = Ca, Ba, Sr are highly interesting due to their in most cases high Curie temperatures well above room temperature and their half-metallic behavior. Here, we summarize the structural, magnetotransport, magnetic, and optical properties of the ferromagnetic double perovskites and discuss the underlying physics. In particular, we discuss the impact of steric effects resulting in a distorted perovskite structure, doping effects obtained by a partial replacing of the divalent alkaline earth ions on the A site by a trivalent lanthanide as well as B/B' cationic disorder on the Curie temperature T$\text{}_{C}$, the saturation magnetization and the magnetotransport properties. Our results support the presence of a kinetic energy driven mechanism in the ferromagnetic double perovskites, where ferromagnetism is stabilized by a hybridization of states of the non-magnetic B'-site positioned in between the high spin B-sites.

Opis:
Co-Fe-Mo-Mn-Si-B metallic glass ribbon (Vitrovac 6030) was subjected to the isothermal annealing at temperatures in the range 523-873 K so as to produce a series of samples with gradually coarser microstructure. For this series of samples a giant increase in the coercivity, exceeding three orders of magnitude, is observed. This increase is interpreted in terms of the strengthening of the pinning effect of the nanocrystalline structure on the moving domain walls. It is shown that the anisotropy of the created crystallites is mainly responsible for the increase in the pinning force since the effective anisotropy seen by the wall becomes larger and larger with the gradual increase in the density and size of the grown particles.
