Opis:
We investigate the critical behaviour of the chemical potential and average occupation numbers using the extended s -f model with intersite Cooper pairing for systems with fluctuating valence. The model is able to describe phase transitions from normal ferromagnet to normal paramagnet at $T=T_{C}$, from superconducting paramagnet to normal paramagnet at $T=T_{S}$, as well as reentrant phase transitions with three critical temperatures $T_{S_{1}}, T_{C}$ and $T_{S_{2}} (T_{S_{1}} < T_{C} < T_{S_{2}})$. Present investigation, as well as recent results obtained for another models suggest one-to-one correspondence between critical temperatures of the system and kinks appearing in the temperature dependence of the chemical potential and average occupation numbers. This, in turn, indicates a possibility to apply the measurement of the chemical potential vs. temperature as an experimental universal tool when looking for phase transitions in solids.

Ac susceptibility (χ$\text{}_{ac}$) and dc magnetization (M$\text{}_{dc}$) of the organometallic magnet Na[FeO$\text{}_{6}$(C$\text{}_{10}$H$\text{}_{8}$N)$\text{}_{3}$] have been studied in temperature range of 4.2-200 K, in an external magnetic field up to 16 kOe. Some peculiarities of the χ$\text{}_{ac}$ and M $\text{}_{dc}$ behavior, which are characteristic of spin-glasses, e.g. cusps in the susceptibility and zero-field-cooled magnetization, an irreversibility between the field-cooled and zero-field-cooled magnetization and dependences of the T$\text{}_{cusp}$ temperature on the frequency and the intensity of the magnetic field, were observed at low temperatures.

Magnetic and specific heat data of the TmRhX (X = Ga, Ge) compounds are reported. These compounds crystallize in an orthorhombic crystal structure of the TiNiSi-type (space group Pnma). Magnetic data indicate that the compounds are antiferromagnets with the Néel temperature $T_{N}$ equal to 3.9 K for TmRhGa and 6.0 K for TmRhGe. Magnetic susceptibility of TmRhGe has an additional peak at $T_{t}$ = 10.6 K. In TmRhGe temperature dependence of χ"(T), the positions of both the peaks at $T_{N}$ and $T_{t}$ change with frequency indicating a relaxation process. These data suggest that with the decreasing temperature, first a cluster glass state and next the long-range aniferromagnetic order exists.

The results of magnetic measurements performed on geometrically frustrated Ni$\text{}_{3}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ and Ni$\text{}_{3(1-x)}$Co$\text{}_{3x}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ single crystals with x=0.03 are presented. It was found that Co doping did not change considerably the magnetic H-T phase diagram. Although no spin-glass effects were observed, nevertheless, a strong effect of 3 at% cobalt doping was evidenced. The main effect of Co-doping concerns the direction of the antiferromagnetic vector, which for Ni$\text{}_{3}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ appears along the $a$ axis, while for only slightly Co doped crystals - along the $c$ axis. This switching of direction results from distinct changes of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the presence of Co$\text{}^{2+}$ ions strongly coupled to the kagome lattice. The disorder introduced by doping has practically no effect on the magnitude of the isotropic exchange interactions. At the same time the doping suppresses the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interactions due to the change of direction of the antiferromagnetic vector.

The results of new magnetic dc and neutron diffraction measurements of $DyCoSi_2$ compound are presented. Below $T_{N}$ equal to 10.9 K the Dy moments form collinear G-type structure with the moment parallel to the c-axis. The value of Dy-moment equal to 5.5(2) $μ_{B}$ are smaller than free $Dy^{3+}$ ion value (10.0 $μ_{B}$). These and the three-step magnetization process indicate the strong influence of the crystal electric field on the stability of the magnetic order. Increase of the values of the lattice parameters at 1.5 K in reference of these at 20 K indicate magnetostriction effect at low temperatures.

The phase transition line near the Ising point region is studied for the 3D standard Ashkin-Teller model on a cubic lattice. This model with a multicomponent order parameter is one of the important reference points in statistical physics since it shows an interesting and complicated phase diagram. The main motivation for our study was nonuniversal behavior suggested for this line. The large-scale Monte Carlo simulations using the Binder and Challa like cumulants are performed. Accurate analysis to exclude the latent heat inherence is applied. Specific behavior of the Challa like cumulants is discovered and its interpretation is proposed. The paper is closed with preliminary conclusions concerning the continuous but non-Ising character of these phase transitions in the lower part of the mixed phase region and the possiblity of the first order on the line connecting it to the Ising point.

Magnetic properties of $Pb[Cu(SO_4)(OH)_2]$ (linarite) natural single crystals were studied by magnetization and specific heat measurements. The angular dependences of magnetization were revealed which correlated with the regularities of the crystal structure. At about 2.8 K this quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg system undergoes a phase transition to the long-range antiferromagnetic order with antiparallel magnetic moments aligned probably along the b-axis. The antiferromagnetic order is evidenced by the metamagnetic transition and pronounced λ-type anomaly at $T_N$ in the specific heat. Using phenomenological modeling based on a quantum transfer-matrix method, we argue that at higher temperatures linarite is a quasi-one-dimensional system with competing ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor exchange interactions.

A coupled spin-electron diamond chain with localized Ising spins placed on its nodal sites and mobile electrons delocalized over interstitial sites is explored in a magnetic field taking into account the difference between the Landé g-factors of the localized spins and mobile electrons. The ground-state phase diagram is constituted by two classical ferrimagnetic phases, the quantum unsaturated paramagnetic phase and the saturated paramagnetic phase. Both classical ferrimagnetic phases as well as the unsaturated paramagnetic phase are reflected in a low-temperature magnetization curve as intermediate magnetization plateaus. The unsaturated paramagnetic phase is quantum in its character as evidenced by the fermionic concurrence calculated for a pair of the mobile electrons hopping in between the interstitial sites. It is shown that the magnetic field can under certain conditions induce a quantum entanglement above the disentangled ground state.

Magnetization curves of the ferrimagnetic mixed spin-(1/2,S) Heisenberg chains are calculated with the help of density-matrix renormalization group method for several quantum spin numbers S=1, 3/2, 2 and 5/2. It is shown that the ferrimagnetic mixed spin-(1/2,S) Heisenberg chains exhibit irrespective of the spin value S exactly one intermediate magnetization plateau, which can be identified with the gapped Lieb-Mattis ferrimagnetic ground state. The magnetization plateau due to the Lieb-Mattis ferrimagnetism breaks down at a quantum phase transition towards the Luttinger spin liquid, which is characterized by a continuous change of the magnetization with the magnetic field until another quantum critical point is reached at the saturation field.
