Opis:
The general theory of disorder in superconducting alloys was discussed. We use standard Wannier function representation and allow for diagonal and off-diagonal disorder. We generalized the coherent potential approximation in the version able to deal with off-diagonal disorder in normal systems to treat superconducting state. As an illustration we calculate the quasiparticle density of states and gap function of a d-wave superconductor. We show inter alia that the rate at which superconductivity disappears depends on the kind of disorder and for off-diagonal disorder it depends on the details of its realization.

Opis:
We generalize the standard attractive Hubbard, having an on-site pair creation operator Q$\text{}_{i}$ = a$\text{}_{i↑}$a$\text{}_{i↓}$, to one with n components Q$\text{}_{iα}$ = a$\text{}_{iα↑}$a$\text{}_{iα↓}$, α=1,2,...,n. In the limit n → ∞ we obtain the Ginzburg-Landau functional. On this basis we explore the crossover from weak (BCS) to strong coupling (Bose-Einstein condensation) superconductivity. The associated self-consistent equations for the Ginzburg-Landau parameters are similar to those of the T-matrix approach. The evolution of the band structure with increasing interaction strength is studied and correlated with the behavior of the pair propagator and the transition temperature. We find that the pairing interaction creates a new band which moves downwards in energy as the interaction strength increases and separates into a lower Hubbard band when the interaction strength becomes comparable to the band width. In the strong coupling regime, a third band with small spectral weight is also found in between the lower and upper Hubbard bands.

Opis:
The previously developed approach to study off-diagonal disorder has been extended and applied to both s- and d-wave superconductors. The derived equations allow the self-consistent solution of the problem. For a special case of negative U centres embedded in non-superconducting host we have calculated their critical concentration for the appearance of superconductivity and found it equal to≈0.4. For x>x$\text{}_{cr}$ the order parameter continuously increases to its maximal value at x=1.

Opis:
We summarize briefly our recent work on the bound states of two electrons (Cooper pairs) in two nonstandard situations: when the quasiparticle masses depend on spin and when an electron pair is localized on a two-dimensional quantum dot and placed in an applied magnetic field. In both cases we are dealing with an extension of the original Cooper approach. The applicability of the results is briefly mentioned.

Opis:
We present our preliminary studies of an effective model of a superconductor with short coherence length involving magnetic interactions. The Hamiltonian considered consists of (i) the effective on-site interaction U, (ii) the intersite magnetic exchange interactions ($J^z,$ $J^{xy}$) between nearest-neighbors and (iii) the intersite charge exchange term I, determining the hopping of electron pairs between nearest-neighbor sites. In the analysis of the phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of this model for half-filling (n=1) we have adopted the variational approach, which treats the on-site interaction term exactly and the intersite interactions within the mean-field approximation. One finds that the system considered can exhibit very interesting multicritical behaviors (including tricritical, critical-end and bicritical points) caused by the competition between magnetism and superconductivity, even for n=1. Our investigations show that, depending on the values of interaction parameters, the system at half-filling can exhibit three homogeneous phases: superconducting (SS), (anti-)ferromagnetic (F) and nonordered (NO). The transitions between ordered phases (SS, F) and the NO phase can be first order as well as second order ones, whereas SS-F transition is first order one. Temperature dependencies of the order parameters and thermodynamic properties of the system at the sequence of transitions: SS→F→NO with increasing temperature for J/I=0.3, U/I_0 = 0.69 and n=1 are also presented.
