Opis:
The metallic glass ribbons of $Ni_{36.5}Zr_{63.5}$ were prepared by melt spinning. The samples have a large frozen-in structural disorder and in comparison with their crystalline state, a very high electrical resistivity. They are metastable and they relax structurally towards more stable state whenever atoms attain noticeable mobility. As the most structurally sensitive property the electrical resistivity of these samples was used to follow the relaxation process from room temperature to 673 K. To complete the investigation of structural relaxation the electrical resistance of as-quenched, annealed and about twenty years aged $Ni_{36.5}Zr_{63.5}$ samples was measured in the temperature range from 77 K to 275 K. The obtained results were presented graphically.

Opis:
The mechanism and kinetics of Al₃Li/Al₃Sc composite particles formation during aging of triple Al-Li-Sc alloys were studied. The particles of such type consist of two isomorphic phases, ordered by L1₂ type. Composite particles in Al-Li-Sc are formed by epitaxial nucleation of δ' (Al₃Li) phase on pre-existing Al₃Sc precipitates at low temperature aging in the area of existence of Al₃Li phase, and form uniform shell around them. The motive force of such heterostructure formation is the minimization of total surface, elastic and chemical energy of the alloy. Dark-field transmission electron microscopy images of such composite particles taken from superlattice reflex 100 are composed of a dark core surrounded by a bright shell. The mutual diffusion of Li and Sc during the aging of Al-Li-Sc alloys is observed. The dark-field transmission electron microscopy image of the composite particle obtained from superlattice reflection became transparent after continuous natural aging of Al-Li-Sc alloys. The presence of the particle in Al matrix can be only seen due to decoration by secondary precipitations of δ' (Al₃Li) phase. Composition analysis of such transparent particles was carried out using two-beam kinematical theory of electron diffraction. Such composite particles with transparent cores remain in Al matrix even after severe plastic deformation of Al-Li-Sc alloy.

Opis:
Investigation of thermal stability of the alloy revealed stepwise crystallization process, manifested by two distinct complex exothermic peaks in differential scanning calorimetry curves. Kinetic parameters of individual crystallization steps were found using the Kissinger and Vyazovkin methods. Structural characterization of thermally treated samples showed formation of different iron-based phases including α-Fe(Si), Fe₂B, Fe₁₆Nb₆Si₇ and Fe₂Si and some metastable intermediary species. Morphology characterization of the surface and cross-section of the thermally treated samples showed granulated structure composed of several different phases and indicated occurrence of impingement effects during crystal growth. Value of estimated lifetime suggested very high stability against crystallization at room temperature and abrupt decrease of lifetime with temperature increase.

Opis:
The phase diagram of the binary water/Brij58 system has been studied at constant temperature T = 20°C first by simple optical observation and then by small angle X-ray scattering. The small angle X-ray scattering patterns in the isotropic diluted phase are analyzed in a quantitative way by refining the experimental measurements with a model assuming hard spherical micelles in interaction. The micelles are described by a poly dispersed core-shell model and the interaction by the Perkus-Yevick hard-sphere model. The fitted parameters are analyzed in detail to determine the way polyoxyethylene blocks are hydrated with respect to the volumic fraction of water. In the more concentrated regime, the crystalline phases that are identified are the Fm3m cubic, the 2D hexagonal and the lamellar phases. The structural parameters that describe each phases are analyzed and commented. The small angle X-ray scattering study is complemented by the determination of the temperature dependent liquid-solid transition by rheology.

Opis:
Decomposition of supersaturated solid solution of aluminium alloys alloyed with Sc and Zr have been studied in the work. The binary hypereutectic Al-Sc alloys, hyperperitectic Al-Zr alloys and ternary Al-Sc-Zr alloys were chosen. Alloys were obtained by the melt-spinning. Melts were quenched from temperatures of T = 1000C and T = 1400°C. The crystallization of anomalously supersaturated solid solution ($T_\text{quen.}$ = 1400°C) or the crystallization with the formation of "fan" structure ($T_\text{quen.}$ = 1000°C) are possible. The decomposition of anomalously supersaturated solid solution is continuous, with the precipitation of nanosized spherical $Al_3X$ (X = Sc, Zr) particles. The loss of thermal stability of Al-Sc alloys is due to the loss of coherence of the strengthening $Al_3Sc$ phase. In Al-Zr alloys the loss of strength is due to the formation of a stable tetragonal $DO_{23}$-ordered $Al_3Zr$ phase. After co-alloying of Al by Sc and Zr a bimodal grained structure was observed for the hypereutectic ternary alloy ($T_\text{quen.}$ = 1400°C). Nanosized grains of 50-60 nm were present on the boundaries of 1-2 μm large-sized grains. Transmission electron microscopy shows the formation of nanocomposite $Al_3Zr//Al_3Sc$ particles. The formation of $Al_3Zr$ shell changes the nature of the interfacial fit of the particle with the matrix and slows down the decomposition during the coalescence.

Opis:
The influence of boron contents on the glass forming abilities and magnetic properties of melt-spun ribbon samples produced from Pr₉Fe_{50+x}Co₁₃Zr₁Nb₄B_{23-x} (x=0, 2, 5, 8) alloys, were investigated. For all compositions, the rapidly solidified samples were fully amorphous, which was confirmed by X-ray diffractometry and the Mössbauer spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry and differential thermal analysis studies revealed good glass forming abilities for all investigated specimens and allowed to determine thermal stability parameters of the amorphous phase. For all alloy ribbons, very large supercooled liquid region before crystallization ΔT_x reaching 100 K was measured. The Kissinger plots were constructed to determine the activation energies for crystallization. Annealing of specimens at temperatures ranging from 923 K to 1033 K for 5 min resulted in significant change of the phase constitution. The X-ray diffractometry studies have shown presence of hard magnetic Pr₂(Fe,Co)₁₄B and paramagnetic Pr_{1+x}Fe₄B₄ phases. Furthermore, with the increase of B contents in the alloy composition crystallization of α-Fe phase occurs at wider range of the annealing temperature. Anomaly of both thermal and magnetic properties was observed for the Pr₉Fe₅₂Co₁₃Zr₁Nb₄B₂₁ alloy ribbons.

Opis:
It follows from experimental observations that ball milling induces substantial changes in an amorphous $Co_{70.3}Fe_{4.7}Si_{10}B_{15}$ (at.%) alloy. X-ray diffraction indicates formation of nanocrystalline bcc-(Co,Fe) phase during ball milling. As a consequence crystallization sequence is altered and the total enthalpy of crystallization reduces with the milling time. Furthermore thermomagnetic measurements reveal that specific magnetization and Curie temperature of amorphous phase are influenced by ball milling.

Opis:
There has been a growing interest in the synthesis and characterization of amorphous chalcogenide glasses due to their importance in preparing electronic memories, grating, switching devices and their optical applications as good IR transmitting materials. The study of the glass transformations and crystallization processes in the amorphous systems is interesting not only from the fundamental aspect of establishing the reaction mechanism of crystal nucleation and growth, but also from a technological point of view. The present research work is concentrated on the study of glass transition and crystallization behavior in $Ga_{15}Se_{85 - x}Pb_x$ with x=0, 3, and 6 chalcogenide glasses by differential scanning calorimetry. Their amorphous nature has been verified by X-ray diffraction. The differential scanning calorimetry experiments were performed at different continuous heating rates (5 to 25 K/min). The glass transition temperature (T_{g}) and crystallization temperature $(T_{c})$ of these glasses has been determined from differential scanning calorimetry thermograms. The dependence of $T_{g}$ and $T_{c}$ on the heating rate (β) has been used for the determination of different crystallization parameters such as the activation energy of crystallization (Δ $E_{c}$), the activation energy for structural relaxation (Δ $E_{t}$) and the order parameter (n). The results of crystallization were discussed on the basis of different models such as Kissinger's approach and modification for non-isothermal crystallization in addition to Johnson, Mehl, Ozawa and Avrami.

The composites were obtained by the Bridgman method through solidification of $Al_{61}Cu_{27}Fe_{12}$ alloy (numbers indicate at.%). The microstructure of composites with crystal matrix and quasicrystal reinforcement was studied. The crystalline β-phase was the matrix and the quasicrystaline i-phase was the reinforcement of obtained composites. The shape and spatial distribution of reinforcement fibres were specified. Some geometrical relations of the fibres arrangement were defined. Obtained composite samples were subjected to X-ray phase analysis, optical, and scanning electron microscopy observations, chemical microanalysis and the Laue diffraction.
