Opis:
Optical low-coherence tomography is a measurement technique for non-contact and non-destructive investigation of materials inner structure. Nowadays, this method is highly applied in medical treatment especially in dermatology and ophthalmology. During our research we have developed an optical low-coherence tomography system with polarization state analysis for structure examination of a broad range of technical materials. In this paper we present our recent measurements including polarization sensitive analysis. Those measurements were taken for semitransparent and highly scattering materials like polymer layers and polymer optical retarders, anticorrosion protective coatings or abrasive paper. We proved that with the aid of developed polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography system it is possible to investigate birefringence principles of materials as well as to improve visualization contrast of cross-sectional images.

Opis:
Speckle technique is based on the light intensity distribution randomly formed when a laser light is reflected on a rough surface, creating a pattern of illuminated grains (constructively) and dark (destructive) on scales of 1 μm. When the samples are displaced or deformed, the speckle pattern is altered. In this paper we present speckle patterns obtained from samples of gastric mucosa that is physically altered for the carcinogenesis process. Biopsies were studied with different diagnoses and were grouped according to the characteristics of speckle patterns. Speckle patterns were obtained by illuminating the samples with green laser. Morphological parameters of the speckle patterns reveal existence of 3 descriptors: the average grain size, hydraulic radius and the radio of the Weddel disc, which showed a high, intermediate and low value. The comparison shows agreement between the histopathological diagnosis and the values obtained by the speckle technique, making this technique emerge as a new classification system for quantitative diagnosis of precancerous lesions.

Opis:
In this paper, an optical microscope objective with large numerical number is inserted into a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, and this system is adopted to detect the surface morphologies of two ruled transmission gratings with area scale to a micrometer. The object waves transmitting from the gratings interfere with spherical reference wave, and the interferograms constructed are recorded by a high-resolution CCD. The surface maps of the gratings are retrieved from the interferograms, and the results are confirmed by the measurement with an atomic force microscope, with detection errors in nanometer scale. This work provides an optical non-destructive method for precise detection of small-area sophisticated object surfaces with an optical microscope objective.

Opis:
The optical coherence tomography is an optical measurement technique used for investigation of wide range of scattering or semitransparent materials. The optical coherence tomography enables surface and subsurface examination of different types of materials to be performed in non-contact and non-destructive way. Our research have been concentrated on optical coherence tomography systems with polarization sensitive analysis. Such a combination of optical measurements methods improves optical coherence tomography visualization contrast and also delivers some extra information about investigated devices. However, applying polarization sensitive analysis is associated with problems related to the use of ultra broadband optical sources. We have managed studies on the improvement of signal processing method. According to obtained results the problem of signal processing method in polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography can be solved by the use of the spectroscopic analysis. In this paper we present a brief discussion about the polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography measurements supported by spectroscopic analysis of backscattered light from investigated device.

Opis:
The present work introduces and demonstrates a novel high resolution surface topography method for mapping the distribution of erosive wear in polymethyl methacrylate. The technique is based on grayvalues obtained from eroded sample surfaces and three-dimensional surface topography mapping from these grayvalues. Surface topography maps make it a valuable method for fundamental studies on erosive wear. In the present investigation, a flatbed scanner system has been used for obtaining the surface images of eroded test samples. Polymethyl methacrylate test samples eroded with 80 and 120 mesh alumina particles at 1.5 and 3 bar blast pressures and their surface topography maps compared. Erosive wear is difficult to visualize for its dynamic and complex nature, hence monitoring of erosive wear in industrial applications is rather important. High resolution surface topography method detail capturing capability may improve tribological surface damage characterization of real machine elements. Reduced costs and simplicity two primary outcomes of using a simple flatbed scanner system in non destructive testing of erosive wear.
