Opis:
Finite element simulations of passive damped system applied to the simply-supported excited squared steel plate, is the aim of the analysis. The full mechanical, piezoelectric, electric and acoustic field coupling is analysed in Ansys Package. As the result the acoustic pressure radiated by plate is analysed. The results show possibility of application of the discussed method to reduction of the sound pressure level in realistic engineering structures.

Opis:
The quantum mechanical integral inelastic cross-sections for the rotation transitions in a diatomic molecule with an atom were computed and analysed by using the empirical power-gap "law" over a wide range of collision energy. A well-known parameter, |ΔE|$\text{}^{*}$, of the power-gap "law" was estimated by observing a rapid fall of cross-sections for the rotational energy transfer, |ΔE| ≥ |ΔE|$\text{}^{*}$. It was found that |ΔE|$\text{}^{*}$ corresponds to classical limit of maximum amount of rotational energy transfer permissible by the angular momentum conservation constraints and the hard ellipsoid potential model provided the hard ellipsoid potential surface is represented by the classical turning point surface of the real potential employed in the computation of cross-sections. Such an agreement is shown to be useful in the determination of the difference of major and minor axes of the intermolecular-potential ellipsoid from the knowledge of the cross-sections and the power-gap "law".

Opis:
The hard ellipsoid potential model for understanding the mechanism of the rotational energy transfer in a diatomic molecule due to collisions with an atom was explored by performing quasi-classical trajectory calculations on N$\text{}_{2}$-He and N$\text{}_{2}$- Ne systems governed by a sum of pairwise atom-atom Morse interactions. It is found that the conversion of the orbital angular momentum into the angular momentum of the molecule takes place when the colliding atom is very close to the classical turning point ellipsoid. The quantitative measures to define such closeness were introduced. Further, it is observed that nearly 50% of the total angular momentum transfer takes place when the colliding atom approaches the classical turning point ellipsoid and the remaining 50% transfer takes place while the atom bounces back.

The maximum limit of rotational energy transfer was investigated over a wide range of collision energy, reduced mass of the system, potential functions, and potential parameters for the N$\text{}_{2}$-Ne system. The classical limit of maximum rotational energy transfer, (ΔE)$\text{}_{max}$, was reviewed for a hard ellipsoid potential model. It was found that (ΔE)$\text{}_{max}$ predicted by the hard ellipsoid model is comparable to a well-known parameter |ΔE|* given by the power-gap law. The numerical equivalence of |ΔE|* with (ΔE)_max suggests that the value of ΔE)$\text{}_{max}$ given by hard ellipsoid potential model can be used as one parameter |ΔE|* of the power-gap law.

In the paper results of simulation of active reduction of vibration of the free-fixed beam by piezoelectic actuators made of functionally graded materials are presented. The aim of simmulation was to estimate sensitivity of the process of reduction. The effect of the level of gradation of material properties and amplitude of the applied voltage on effectiveness of the reduction process was analyzed. The analysis was reduced to the case of excited vibrations of the first mode and was performed by application of the finite element package Ansys.

In this paper, the results of several tests concerning possible application of piezoelectric elements to reduce torsional vibrations of a beam are presented and discussed. The proposed method of application is a novel one. The piezoelectric elements are positioned in two pairs and glued to the beam at the chosen cross-section. These elements are activated using a harmonically varying voltage of the same amplitude and opposite in phase. Simulations are performed regarding the active reduction of the lowest natural frequencies of vibration of the fixed-free beam with the use of piezoelectric actuators. The results of these simulations are obtained by means of the finite element method (ANSYS).

Opis:
The subject of this study is an analysis of the phenomenon of sound radiation generated by vibrating building partitions in terms of acceptable vibration values set out in PN-88/B-02171: Evaluation of the vibration impact on people in buildings. The aim of the research was to determine conditions when vibration limits, determined as those providing the required human comfort according to the standard, do not meet the requirements of PN-87/B-02151/02 describing sound level limits in rooms. In order to carry out research showing the phenomenon, various aspects of sound radiation by vibrating building partitions were analyzed theoretically. It was assumed that the vibration velocity of elements did not exceed the limits specified in the standard. Calculations were carried out, in particular, for variants with variable thickness or surface of vibrating partition as well as various types of the construction material. Furthermore, the minimum vibration duration was determined for which the values of noise exceeded the sound level limits.

The study is a next part of earlier works by the authors, and explores how does the sequence of activated actuators and the level of applied voltage affect the radiated acoustic energy. The analysis uses the finite element method for structural vibrations and combination of the finite element and the intensity hybrid method to assess the level of sound radiation. The vibrating element is a steel plate with glued on actuators, supported on one edge and excited by a harmonically variable, concentrated load with a constant amplitude value.

Opis:
This paper deals with the application of six sigma methodology for optimization of a cardan shaft. The aim of this optimization is to reduce vibration of the drive shaft and consequently improve vibration noise harshness of the vehicle. The six sigma methodology has been applied to a light truck, which has received excessive vibration and noise complaints. The define-measure-analyze-improve-control approach has been followed to enhance the vibration noise harshness statistics. The result shows that all expected vibration noise harshness performance targets have been dramatically improved when compared to the initial values. As a conclusion, the case study on a light truck is a useful reference to improve vehicle performance for vibration noise harshness.

Opis:
Pressure dependences of intensities and decay rates of time-resolved luminescence of acetophenone, benzophenone, anthraquinone were used to obtain the efficiencies of vibrational and triplet-triplet energy transfer. It was shown that vibrational relaxation of the chosen molecules can be interpreted in terms of two consecutive processes: rapid collisional relaxation of molecules from initially prepared states to a vibrational distribution at T$\text{}_{vib}$ by vibration-vibration process and relaxation of this vibrational distribution to the thermal one (vibration-translation process). At relatively small internal energy < 10000 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, the collisional efficiencies of the vibration-vibration process in mixtures with polyatomic bath gases had values typical of processes with a supercollision contribution. Molecules relaxed from the upper vibrational level to the vibrational distribution after several collisions (2-3). The average energies transferred per collision are well correlated with predictions of the simple ergodic theory of collisional energy transfer. The majority of the collisions took part only in vibration-translation energy transfer of relatively small energies. The efficiencies of triplet-triplet energy transfer were analyzed for acetophenone, benzophenone and anthraquinone as donors and biacetyl-acceptor in a gas phase when energy of about 20000 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ was transferred. It permitted us to elucidate the common features of highly energetic collisions. It was shown that the efficiencies are much lower than the gas kinetic ones and depended on the vibrational energy and temperature. It was discussed how to enhance triplet-triplet efficiencies due to vibrational excitation of a donor molecule.

Opis:
Vibratometry is a unique audiological test used in patients with bilateral profound sensori-neural hearing loss. An acoustic stimulus is presented using the bone conduction. The study comprised 15 patients with bilateral profound hearing loss with unilaterally implanted cochlear implant. Vibration detection thresholds were noted. Measurements were done at the implanted side with speech processor either switched on or switched off, as well as at the contralateral side with speech processor switched on. All the patients have perceived stimulus used for testing. The average detection thresholds of vibration stimulus and average thresholds in bone conduction using tonal stimulus have shown better perception of vibration delivered by bone conduction than tonal stimulus. The average detection threshold of vibration stimulus in the implanted ear showed significantly better results in case of speech processor switched on. Patients perceived high frequency stimuli during vibratometry testing despite of no reaction to tonal stimulation during bone conduction test. Vibration could be a supplementary stimulation in patients with bilateral perceptive profound hearing loss.
