Opis:
This paper presents the results of the analysis of surface acoustic waves sensor equivalent model. They were the sensor response of the surface acoustic waves sensor in the steady state gas: $H_2$, $CO_2$, $NO_2$, $NH_3$, $C_nH_m$, $CO$. Thin layer of $WO_3$ has been used as a sensor layer. Impedance replacement of sensor layer, taking into account the profile of the concentration of gas molecules in the layer, has been implemented into the equation of Ingebrigtsen, which enabled us to obtain analytical expressions for the relative changes in surface wave velocity in the steady state. The results of the analysis show that there is an optimum thickness of layer sensor for which an acoustoelectric effect (change in the acoustic wave velocity) is the highest.

Opis:
A Rayleigh acoustic wave travelling on the surface of a semi-infinite piezoelectric medium may be changed by interaction with carriers and diffused gas in an adjacent semiconductor. The configuration, which uses a thin semiconductor film supported by a catalytic layer (Pd), is described in detail and the theoretical results of gas-sensor layer interaction are presented.

Opis:
The sol-gel technology allows the preparation of silica thin films ranging in porosity from dense to highly porous films (50%). Porous silica films can function as a matrix that is able to bind the molecules of pH-sensitive indicators and therefore can be utilized as a sensitive film in construction of intensity based fibre or planar optical sensors for ammonia detection. We report the fabrication and characterization of ammonia sensitive, highly porous silica films deposited on soda-lime glass plates and doped with the bromocresole purple, and bromothymol blue molecules. In this paper we present the influence of the substrate withdrawal speed from sol on a thickness and a refractive index of the undoped silica films, as well as spectral absorbance characteristics of the doped films. An influence of ammonia concentration in air and relative humidity on a transmission of produced sensitive films is also presented.

Opis:
For an array of eight chemoresistive gas sensors a computer pattern recognition system was built. Multivariate data analysis was performed for measurements of three gases' dilutions: hydrogen $(H_2)$, methane $(CH_4)$, and carbon monoxide $(CO)$. The pattern recognition system included a feature subset selection algorithm involving PCA and objective function. Dimensionality reduction was applied to two kinds of patterns: three aforementioned gases and six different concentrations of hydrogen. For patterns of the three gases, classification tests were performed using k-NN algorithm and N-fold based validation method.

Temperature sensitive thick films based on spinel-type semiconducting ceramics of different chemical composition $Cu_{0.1}Ni_{0.1}Co_{1.6}Mn_{1.2}O_{4}$ (with $p^{+}$-types of electrical conductivity), $Cu_{0.1}Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Mn_{1.9}O_{4}$ (with p-types of electrical conductivity) and their multilayer $p^{+}$-p structures were fabricated and studied. These thick-film elements possess good electrophysical characteristics before and after long-term ageing test at 170°C. It is shown that degradation processes connected with diffusion of metallic Ag into film grain boundaries occur in one-layer p- and $p^{+}$-conductive thick films. The $p^{+}$-p structures were of high stability, the relative electrical drift was not greater than 1%.

Opis:
For the first time influence of humidity on photoconductivity transient characteristics are studied for antimony sulfoiodide (SbSI) single nanowires. While negative photoconductivity is observed for SbSI gel, made up of large quantity of nanowires, only the positive effect occurs for SbSI single nanowires. Photoconductivity current response on switching on and off illumination in moist $N_{2}$ represents so-called hook anomaly.

The profile of the gas concentration in the sensor layer can be expressed as a polynomial function involving the diffusion coefficient $(D_{K})$, semiconductor film thickness (h), rate constant (k), gas concentration outside the semiconductor film $(C_{S})$. Before reaching a steady state of the concentration profile, its behavior depends on a few factors as the distance from the piezoelectric surface, the rate constant, the thickness of the layer and the diffusion constant and time. We are going to simulate temporary processes in the semiconductor sensor film in the surface acoustic wave gas sensor system and to describe the influence on relative changes of the surface acoustic wave velocity. The numerical results basing on the code written in Pyton, are described and analyzed.

Opis:
We present a liquid refractive index sensor based on a photonic crystal waveguide slab structure. Sensing mechanism employed in this study is based on the shift in cut-off wavelength as the lattice holes are selectively infiltrated. Three-dimensional plane-wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain methods are used to determine the band structure and transmission spectra, respectively. First, the sensitivity of the device is analyzed for the structure where only the first rows of holes adjacent to the line-defect are infiltrated. In addition, this analysis is repeated for a range of hole diameters. Second, the effects of infiltrated holes which are placed in the line-defect are investigated. As these infiltrated central holes are introduced, the proposed device exhibits 5.3 times improved sensitivity.

In this work we have studied the NO2 sensing properties of the sensors with tetrapods. The tetrapods that were used in the production were obtained by CVD route, and their structural analysis was carried out using SEM, XRD and EDX methods. The sensors were produced by a different method that the one mentioned in our another work, and additional electrical I-V characterization was carried out. As well as in the previous work the sensors were tested for 50 ppm sensitivity, by using computer controlled gas flux system, in NO₂ at 200°C, and in ambient air to model the normal working conditions more closely. It was found that the sensors have a good sensitivity to the NO₂ gas. All of the sensors showed a great reversibility and it was found that the recovery time was perfectly low. After this experiment the same sensors were tested with other different gases for several times. And no other problems in sensing ability were seen.

Opis:
Investigation of nitric oxide and nitrous oxide optoelectronic sensors is described. The detection of both components was done by measurement of absorption that occurs due to transition between vibronic molecular transitions. The improvement of the sensitivity was achieved due to application of cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy. Two optical cavities (each one for each gas) built of high reflectance spherical mirrors were used. While the spectra of observed transitions are situated in mid-infrared range, two single mode quantum cascade lasers were applied. Their narrow emission lines were precisely tuned to the absorption lines of both investigated gases. The measurement of different mixtures of $Ar-NO$ and $Ar-N_2O$ within the range from 100 ppb to 10 ppm was performed. The relative uncertainty of the results did not exceed the level of 13%.

In the paper, the results of technological investigations on planar optical waveguides based on high band gap oxide semiconductors were presented. Investigations concerned the technologies of depositing very thin layers of: zinc oxide ZnO, titanium dioxide $TiO_2$ and tin dioxide $SnO_2$ on substrates of quartz glass plates. There were investigated both morphological structures of the produced layers and their optical properties. The paper also presents investigations on the technology of input-output light systems in the Bragg grating structures.
