Opis:
The Stern-Gerlach experiment is a paradigm of the quantum measurement of spin. Its physical interpretation is in intimate relation with the physical basis of the current research in the atomic (molecular) nanofabrication procedures. Nevertheless, interpretation of the experiment is an open issue yet. Here, we give the arguments for the physical nonexistence of the so-called classical trajectories of the atoms (molecules) in front of the screen. Some nanotech-related consequences are distinguished.

Opis:
Contextuality is one of the fundamental deviations of quantum mechanics from classical physics. The Kochen-Specker theorem shows that non-contextual classical physics with hidden variables is inconsistent with the predictions of quantum mechanics. Parity proof is one of the many different approaches applied to prove Kochen-Specker theorem for quantum system with different dimensionality. This method of proof requires Kochen-Specker sets that were composed of an odd number of bases and an even number of projectors. In most of the cases, the number of Kochen-Specker sets produced is large and its production is generally aided by computer calculation. However, manual generation of the Kochen-Specker sets are also reported previously for qutrit and two-qubit systems. We put forward the first and surprisingly simple method to generate manually Kochen-Specker sets, with respect to the Mermin pentagram, that can be used for the parity proof of the Kochen-Specker theorem in a state space of eight-dimensional three-qubit system.

Opis:
The paper presents a conception of uncertainty calculation of a result obtained in a direct measurement realized in conditions described by random errors. The conception basis on the error definition being an effect of analysis of a quantization process and, first of all, it permits to determine uncertainty of a single measurement result in measuring and control systems processing signals varying in time. Division of the errors into two types A and B permits elaboration of such a procedure which enables uncertainty calculation for an average value of a series of measurements in the way close to this one proposed by GUM and widely discussed in last years. Theoretical considerations are illustrated by examples showing practical properties of the presented uncertainty calculation procedures.

Opis:
We study theoretically the process of a weak measurement of charge states in a double quantum dot performed by coupling to a quantum point contact. We focus on the interplay of the measurement process with phonon-induced dephasing of delocalized superpositions of electron states and compare the time scales relevant for the dynamics of the open system and for the measurement process: the decoherence rate, the localization rate of the state conditioned on the measurement outcome and the time scale on which information on the system state is gained in the process of the measurement.

Opis:
We show that the phonon-induced pure dephasing of excitons in quantum dots can be interpreted in terms of information leakage from the carrier subsystem to the lattice environment. We derive a quantitative relation between the coherence of the system, as manifested by the amplitude of the coherent optical polarization, and the amount of available which path information on the system state, quantified by the distinguishability of states.

A concise exact pointer theory for von Neumann projector measurements of pre- and post-selected quantum systems has previously been used to formalize the notion of weak value persistence and apply it to explain pointer position data collected from a dynamical quantum non-locality detection experiment. This paper applies this exact pointer theory to provide an operational explanation of weak value persistence observed in the data obtained from a recent quantum box experiment.

We show the special dynamic characteristic of Gaussian quantum discord, exhibited by two-mode Gaussian symmetric squeezed thermal states (STS) in continuous-variable (CV) systems with a common non-Markovian environment, is definitely different from Markov processes. We demonstrate that Gaussian quantum discord can be created whenever the information flow from environment back to the system. We also show that the rate of decrease for Gaussian quantum discord is related to the coupling constant. We discover that the initial value of Gaussian quantum discord is determined by the average number of thermal photons of the system.

We seek for an oscillating center solution of the wave function satisfying the Schrödinger equation for a nonrelativistic charge particle in an arbitrary external field, where the oscillating center of physical system is a motion governing by a guidance formula of the classical mechanics and at the same time, the physical system obeys the rule of quantum mechanics. In terms of our approach, one enables to know how quantum process may actually come about. The results are applied to analyze the Landau level. We explain successfully that the orbit of oscillator center for the Landau level is circle.
