Opis:
A series of iron oxide nanocatalysts were prepared using an ultrasonically assisted co-precipitation technique. Molybdenum promoted Fe3O4 and Fe2O3 were prepared from the original materials by wet impregnation using a solution of ammonium molybdate. The catalysts were tested in the liquid phase oxidation of benzene at atmospheric pressure and at 60°C using molecular oxygen. Phenol yields between 7% and 14.5% were obtained. The major products were pyrogallol and catechol.

Opis:
The present study investigates the synthesis and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3 O4 -NPs) for their antibacterial potential against Bacillus cereus and Klebsiella pneumonia by modified disc diffusion and broth agar dilution methods. DLS and XRD results revealed the average size of synthesized Fe3 O4 -NPs as 24 nm while XPS measurement exhibited the spin-orbit peak of Fe 2p3/2 binding energy at 511 eV. Fe3 O4 -NPs inhibited the growth of K. pneumoniae and B. cereus in both liquid and soild agar media, and displayed 26 mm and 22 mm zone of inhibitions, respectively. MIC of Fe3 O4 -NPs was found to be 5 μg/mL against these strains. However, MBC for these strains was observed at 40 μg/mL concentration of Fe3 O4 -NPs for exhibiting 40–50% loss in viable bacterial cells and 80 μg/mL concentration of Fe3 O4 -NPs acted as bactericidal for causing 90–99% loss in viability. Hence, these nanoparticles can be explored for their additional antimicrobial and biomedical applications.

Opis:
In this study, the adsorption of Ni2+  and Fe3+  metal ions from aqueous solutions onto graphene oxide (GO) have been explored. The effects of various experimental factors such as pH of the solution, initial metal ion concentration and temperature were evaluated. The kinetic, equilibrium and thermodynamic studies were also investigated. The adsorption rate data were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order kinetic model, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the intraparticle diffusion model. Kinetic studies indicate that the adsorption of both ions follows the pseudo-second-order kinetics. The isotherms of adsorption data were analyzed by adsorption isotherm models such as Langmuir and Freundlich. Equilibrium data fitted well with the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Ni2+  and Fe3+  onto GO were 35.6 and 27.3 mg g-1 , respectively. In addition, various thermodynamic parameters, such as enthalpy (ΔHO), entropy (ΔSO) and Gibbs free energy (ΔGO), were calculated.

Opis:
The iron catalyst precursor promoted with Al2O3, CaO, and Li2O was obtained applying the fusing method. Lithium oxide forms two phases in this iron catalyst: a chemical compound with iron oxide (Li2Fe3O4) and a solid solution with magnetite. The catalyst promoted with lithium oxide was not fully reduced at 773 K, while the catalyst containing potassium was easily reducible at the same conditions. After reduction at 873 K the activity of the catalyst promoted with lithium oxide was 41% higher per surface than the activity of the catalyst promoted with potassium oxide. The concentration of free active sites on the surface of the catalyst containing lithium oxide after full reduction was greater than the concentration of free active sites on the surface of the catalyst promoted with potassium oxide.
