Opis:
This paper presents the feasibility of the removal of hexavalent chromium ions from aqueous solutions by using activated carbon prepared from Cajanus Cajan(L) Milsp. It was carbonized and activated by treating it with concentrated sulfuric acid followed by heating for 5 h at 500oC. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of pH, contact time, initial concentration of the adsorbate, adsorbent dosage and temperature. The experimental data fi tted well to the Freundlich isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters such as ΔHo, ΔSo, and ΔGo were calculated, which indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The adsorbent used in this study was characterized by FT-IR and SEM before and after the adsorption of metal ions. The results indicate that Cajanus Cajan(L) Milsp can be employed as a low cost alternative and commercial adsorbents in the removal of chromium (VI) from water and waste water.

Opis:
The effect of hydrotropes such as sodium salicylate, sodium benzoate, and nicotinamide on the solubility and mass transfer coefficient of benzoic acid has been investigated. The solubility studies were carried out under a wide range of hydrotrope concentrations (0 to 3.0 mol/L) and different system temperatures (303K to 333K). It has been observed that the solubility and mass transfer coefficient of benzoic acid increases with an increase in hydrotrope concentration and also with system temperature. A Minimum Hydrotrope Concentration (MHC) was found essential to initiate a significant increase in the solubility and the mass transfer coefficient. The maximum enhancement factor (?s), which is the ratio of the solubility value in the presence and absence of a hydrotrope, has been determined for all sets of experimentations. The solubility of benzoic acid has been enhanced to 19.98 times in the presence of 2.5 mol/L concentration of sodium salicylate hydrotrope at 333K.The effectiveness of hydrotropes was measured in terms of Setschenow constant Ks and the highest value has been observed as 0.502 for sodium salicylate.

Opis:
This article presents the feasibility for the removal of Aniline Blue dye (AB dye) from aqueous solution using a low cost biosorbent material Zizyphus oenoplia seeds. In this study, a batch mode experiments of the adsorption process were carried out as a function of pH, contact time, concentration of dye, adsorbent dosage and temperature. The experimental data were fitted with Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations. The feasibility of the isotherm was evaluated with dimensionless separation factor (RL). The kinetic data of sorption process are evaluated by using pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order equations. The mode of diffusion process was evaluated with intra-particle diffusion model. The thermodynamic parameters like change in enthalpy (ΔHº); change in entropy (ΔSº) and Gibbs free energy change (ΔGº) were calculated using Van’t Hoff plot. The biosorbent material was characterized with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and the morphology was identified with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) in before and after adsorption of AB dye.

Opis:
This paper presents the effect of two dissolved inorganic salts (zinc chloride, ZnCl2 and ammonium chloride, NH4Cl) on the enthalpy of mixing (HE) of 2-propanol + acetic acid binary system measured at 303.15 K using an isothermal displacement calorimeter with vapour space. A decreasing trend in the excess enthalpy of mixing values in the presence of ZnCl2 and NH4Cl indicate the endothermic behavior of this system. The Redlich-Kister equation has been used to fit the experimental HE data. The deviations from the ideal value and binary parameters were calculated and reported.
