Opis:
In recent years it has noticed that innovation and innovativeness have become the basis for the success of not only individual business entities but entire regions and economies. What is more, there have been opinions in the literature that individual innovations are no longer a guarantee of survival for an organization, but such a guarantee is rather the capacity for continuous innovation. Therefore the organization’s ability to transform resources in favour of the organization – the innovation capability – is decisive, while the ability to use resources appropriately, including innovation capabilities, is referred to as innovation maturity. In this article the author decided to introduce the essence of innovation maturity models as a tool for measuring innovation maturity. These models are a tool for assessing the level of innovation maturity of an organization. It is worth adding that maturity models originate from the Capability Maturity Model developed by the Software Engineering Institute.

The author of this research offer the hypothesis that university education is the most important condition for the development of an innovation-oriented economy and that the creation of an innovation society requires the modernization of university education. Innovation education has been identified as a key contributor to the enhancement of the innovative behavior of individuals, organizations and economies. It is widely believed that countries’ social and economic well-being will depend to an ever greater extent on the quality of their citizens’ education: the emergence of the so-called ‘knowledge society’, the transformation of information and the media, and increasing specialization on the part of organizations, all of which call for high skill profiles and levels of knowledge. This study builds to examines an individual’s understanding of the term innovation. By looking at undergraduate and postgraduate students in Poland represented by the Warsaw School of Economics it is hoped to ascertain what role education plays in developing the notion of “innovation” and innovation education with the purpose of assessing it

Barriers to innovation implementation can be such factors that hinder, delay or entirely prevent the innovation process. The study of social uncertainty as a barrier to innovation implementation has been carried out on the basis of a case study of the biofuel sector in Poland. The goal of the article is to indicate that one of the development barriers of the Polish biofuel sector may be social uncertainty. Firstly, it describes chosen innovation barriers. Secondly, it explains uncertainty and defines social uncertainty. Thirdly, it briefly points to the situation of the biofuel sector in Poland, emphasising the problems of social acceptance. Finally, research findings are presented, showing that young adults in Poland declare a positive attitude towards biofuels but are less willing to actually purchase biofuels themselves.

Opis:
The innovation models develop over time, due to market and industry needs. As the main “product” of knowledge economy, innovations (as a concept) are symbolic goods, founded in symbols, not in atoms. This notion causes some consequences typical for information goods, like ease of replication or exchange, zero-marginal replication costs and cheap storage. On the other hand, there is a growing innovation production cost and uncertainty and risk of innovation activity that discourage companies from being innovative. Open innovation model shows the knowledge flows in the “inner” and “outer” sphere of the innovation process. The knowledge has been showed in some aspects: as private good, public good and also as “the commons”. The transition spheres have been showed too. Opening the innovation process is addressed to the costly and risky projects that cause risk aversion amongst entrepreneurs, but without which useful products might have never been produced. The goal of the article is to show the knowledge flow and knowledge transition between innovation actors, its “common” nature and the trial to show the value added in the open innovation process. Methods used are literature and data analysis as well as case study.

The purpose of this article is to present a concept of the innovation process maturity that describes actions leading to the implementation of the business process orientation in innovation management, while taking into account efficiency improvement of innovation process. It was assumed that organization can be in different phase of implementation of business process orientation (BPO). That is why presented concept was based on the following foundations: usability, providing the possibility of widespread use in business practice and a high level of precision to clarify various determinants of the innovation process maturity. The proposed concept consists of four actions performed in continuous cycles. Those actions are a basis to distinguish the following maturity levels: lack of maturity, moderate, formed and full maturity of the innovation process. Each of the achieved levels of maturity of the innovation process is characterized by different productivity, which determines the efficiency of the innovation system of the organization.

Opis:
The demand for manufactured products and services, hunting for as biggest number of consumers as possible, meeting their expectations and at the same time ensuring the profitability of the conducted economic projects is a problem in today’s world. The primary operator who will decide on this success is a company functioning in a competitive market. Companies use a lot of development strategies to improve their level of competitiveness and to enhance and strengthen their position in the markets. One of them is a development strategy based on innovation. The purpose of this work is analyzing the level of innovation in Polish industrial businesses in years 2006-2011. The article shows data about productive and technological innovations as well as expenditures incurred by industrial businesses on innovative activity and the analysis of reached incomes from the introduced productive innovations. This analysis shows that industrial businesses which are part of productive and technological innovations have lowered in years 2006-2011. These businesses often introduce technological rather than productive innovation. The most frequent innovations are introduced by larger companies which hire over 250 employees from Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the least by companies from Łódź Voivodeship. The biggest expenditures on innovative activity were allocated by businesses in 2008 and 2010, mainly from Mazovia and Upper Silesia Voivodeships. The intensity of expenditures on B+R raised just by 0.04% to the level of 0.56% in 2010. Big differentiation is noticeable on the grounds of innovation of companies operating in a given area. Dominant role in innovation activity belongs to Mazovia and Upper Silesia Voivodeships.

Opis:
The study objective was to research the impact of workers’ education and qualifications upon changes in the innovation level of economies. The professional literature often claims that knowledge translates into innovation. Higher levels of employees’ education generate more innovative ideas, which increases the general level of innovation. The spatial scope of analysis included the European Union countries during the 2004-2012 period. The paper consists of three parts. The first part explains the importance of human capital for the economy, and especially for its competitiveness and innovation. The second part presents a comparative analysis of the structure of employees in terms of the level of education and qualifications, in particular European Union states. The third part attempts to clarify the effect of the level of education of employees on the innovation of economy. The analysis has demonstrated that the level of innovation is determined by the level of both education and qualification of employees. From the point of view of the innovativeness of economy not only the post-level qualifications but also specialization is important. The qualification specialization is the type of necessary knowledge or skills of using specific devices and tools or materials or produced goods and services. The European Union countries considered to be the innovation leaders are characterized by a high proportion of highly qualified employees. Moreover, the percentage of specialists in employment is also very high. However, there is a group of countries where, despite the high proportion of specialists, innovation remains low. It seems it is due to the low „quality” employment specialists. From the point of view of innovation the participation of high-skilled workers in the total employment in the economy seems to be more important than the participation of professionals. This is due to the nature of today’s innovations that require the cooperation of employees from different disciplines and within multidisciplinary teams.

What is extremely important in the modern economy is the ability to create and adapt new solutions, technologies, and to introduce new products and services. Innovation is currently a significant factor influencing the development of both businesses and regions or countries [Zalesko 2005, p. 683]. In the European Union and its Member States there is an increasing interest in innovations and their impact on the socio-economic development, as evidenced by the new Europe 2020 strategy of socioeconomic development of the European Union, in which innovations are a priority. It is increasingly emphasized that for the innovative economy to develop, the academic sector must cooperate with the economy in the process of both generating and implementing innovations. The article discusses the issue of cooperation between science and business in Poland for the development of innovation.
