This paper formulates a research approach based on the experience of practitioners with more than fifteen years of project management (PM) experience. The author explores the created assumptions of a project management office (PMO), which underlie this research, and provides a research literature review of specific PM research originating from this perspective. The author concludes by summarizing the findings of expert interviews and providing questions into the way ahead of future research. In this way, attention is refocused on PMO learned lessons, context-dependent judgment, situational ethics and reflexivity which enables PM stakeholders to see how the relations function in the context of PMO typology and benefits.

Artykuł w formie krytycznego przeglądu literatury pokazuje ewolucję dyskusji naukowej na temat zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami. Na podstawie 129 anglojęzycznych artykułów naukowych przeprowadzono analizę opisową i tematyczną tego trendu, który wzbudza duże zainteresowanie badaczy. W ten sposób wyodrębniono dominujące narracje dotyczące prób określenia definicji i zakresu zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami, szukania argumentów przemawiających za wdrażaniem zrównoważonych praktyk, wpływu na tradycyjne sposoby zarządzania projektami, łączenia praktyki projektowej z logiką zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dodatkowo także podkreślono rolę menedżera projektów, interesariuszy oraz całych organizacji. Zwrócono również uwagę na dysproporcję między zainteresowaniem zrównoważonym zarządzaniem projektami a rolą i znaczeniem projektów w czasie kryzysu klimatyczno-ekologicznego. Wnioski z literatury wskazują, że zrównoważone zarządzanie projektami jest koncepcją, która ma potencjał dalszej eksploracji w nowatorskich przedsięwzięciach badawczych, choć nie jest wolna od ograniczeń.
This critical literature review shows the evolution of the scientific discussion on sustainable project management. Based on 129 scientific papers, a descriptive and thematic analysis was carried out. In this way the dominant narratives were discussed. They include the evolution and definition of sustainable project management, arguments for the implementation of sustainable practices, the impact of green transition on traditional project management methods, project features and the logic of sustainable development, the role of the project manager, stakeholders and organization, as well as the potential of this research orientation and its limitations. Attention was also drawn to the disproportion in interests in sustainable project management and the role and importance of projects during the climate crisis. Conclusions from the literature indicate that sustainable project management is a concept that is still underexplored and has the potential for further innovative research endeavors.

Project management is an important problem in research and management practice. In business practice, the number of economic activities of enterprises that do not have a procedural nature and are projects oriented to achieve defined goals within a specified time increases. In recent years the literature has emphasized in project management the need to take into account both dynamic and growing complexity of the environment. The problem of increasing unpredictability and non-linearity occurring in projects where standard methods and techniques cannot meet their role is significant. There is therefore a need for a different approach to project management , which is based on system thinking, which at the same time optimally combines the advantages of traditional mainstream in project management. It is important to present the essence of systems thinking in project management to changes in the environment and the limitations of traditional project management.

This paper presents reflections on the possibility of using Kanban methodology in project management. The author presents the history of adaptation of the Japanese production control tool to the needs of IT project management. Then, based on the analysis of world literature related to project management methodologies and personal experiences, the author tries to prove the thesis that the set of available methodologies for project managers can be increased by the Kanban methodology.

In the research carried out by one of Polish research agencies [Pentor 2010], local administration offices were in general seen as institutions which, despite high expenditures, maintained inefficient operations and as a result did fully satisfy the needs of citizens. In addition, searching for the causes of failures in projects, the lack of professional approach to project management should be highlighted, which relates to the undertaken ad hoc adaptation activities to changes in the environment, and the implementation of projects in interim and in unsystematic way. The research found that the consequence of this state of affairs was the reduction of the effectiveness of implementation of projects and of synergistic effect created by audited entity. As a result, the growing importance of project management in the functioning of local government units in Poland, with low levels of performance previously practiced in this field, tended to take the search for a new approach to project management in the units.

Faced with many challenges related to product competitiveness, companies are constantly looking for new ways to solve problems and provide innovative solutions. Problems in IT projects, which are characterised by a higher degree of complexity, may be particularly difficult to solve. The Design Thinking (DT) concept can be a response to the challenges of an organization. The aim of the article is to discuss the application of the Design Thinking method in IT project management. The article examines content related to the creative approach of DT, the basics of project management and the application of Design Thinking in two IT organizations - Apple and IBM. Research methods such as literature analysis and case study will be used. Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that the use of the Design Thinking concept in IT project management can generate many benefits for companies.
W obliczu wielu wyzwań związanych z konkurencyjnością produktów przedsiębiorstwa nieustannie poszukują nowych sposobów radzenia sobie z problemami i dostarczenia innowacyjnych rozwiązań. Problemy w projektach IT, które charakteryzują się wyższym stopniem złożoności, mogą być szczególnie trudne do rozwiązania. Koncepcja Design Thinking (DT) może być odpowiedzią na wyzwania stawiane przed organizacją. Celem artykułu jest omówienie zastosowania metody DT w zarządzaniu projektami informatycznymi. W artykule omówione zostaną treści związane z kreatywnym podejściem Design Thinking, podstawami zarządzania projektami oraz zastosowaniem Design Thinking w organizacjach IT – Apple i IBM. Zostaną wykorzystane takie metody badawcze, jak analiza literatury i studium przypadku. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można stwierdzić, że zastosowanie koncepcji DT w zarządzaniu projektami IT może generować wiele korzyści dla firm.

Due to the modern developmental challenges, more and more often in the discussion of the transfer of knowledge, new technologies and modernization of the intelligent economy there appear social innovations. An effective way of promoting the implementation of social innovations seems to be indirect actions, involving the creation of a good climate for innovativeness, entrepreneurship and creativity. The examples of such activities dedicated to improving the quality of local space are intensively developed networks of cooperation between the sectors of science and economic activity. The aim of the study is characterization of the role of science and business partnerships in the effective management of projects, in particular socially innovative projects. The paper offers mainly descriptive method on the example of an application project entitled “NEMO Creativity Station – Social Innovation for Communes.” The object of the research is a socially innovative service offered to users of the local public space in Polish communes, promoting mentally and physically healthy lifestyle.

Artykuł dotyczy kwestii dojrzałości projektowej organizacji non profit z perspektywy zarządzania strategicznego. Jego celem jest poszerzenie wiedzy i wniesienie wkładu w rozważania na temat związku, jaki istnieje między dojrzałością projektową organizacji non profit a perspektywą zarządzania strategicznego. Jest to tematyka niewystarczająco jeszcze zbadana. W przedstawionych rozważaniach przyjęto, że wzrost dojrzałości projektowej koresponduje ze wzrostem profesjonalizmu w zarządzaniu organizacjami non profit, co przekłada się na koordynację strategicznych inicjatyw projektowych. Artykuł wnosi wkład w teorię zarządzania projektami, zwracając uwagę na rolę dojrzałości projektowej we wdrażaniu strategicznych, kluczowych i długoterminowych celów rozwojowych organizacji non profit. Wyciągnięte wnioski bazują na wynikach badania ankietowego na próbie 93 organizacji non profit funkcjonujących w Polsce.
The paper deals with project maturity of non-profit organisations from the perspective of strategic management. Its purpose is to broaden the knowledge and contribute to the consideration of the relationship that exists between the project maturity of nonprofit organisations and the strategic management perspective. This subject has not been sufficiently researched yet. In the presented considerations, it was assumed that the increase in project maturity corresponds to the increase in professionalism in managing non-profit organisations, which translates into the coordination of strategic project initiatives. The article contributes to the theory of project management by bringing attention to the role of project maturity in implementing strategic, key and long-term development goals of nonprofit organisations. The conclusions drawn are based on the results of a survey on a sample of 93 nonprofit organisations operating in Poland.

The aim of this paper is to identify the role of projects in the development of innovative company on the example of selected innovative enterprises from Lower Silesia. The enterprise selected for the research was the Samorządowy Informator SMS Sp. z o.o., which provides five main e-services. Each of those was designed basing on project management methodology and is a response for the market needs. The article presents the development of selected e-services and the enterprise development that could be reached through these e-services. Orientation for projects is one of the pillars to implement company’s strategy. The analysis of the enterprise indicates that ability to create e-services as well as effective project portfolio management helps in company’s development on a competitive market.

This paper is aimed at using an ERP database to identify the variables that have a significant influence on the duration of a project phase. In the paper, some methodologies of the knowledge discovery process are compared and a model of knowledge discovery from an ERP database is proposed. The presented approach is dedicated for the industrial enterprises that use an ERP system to plan and control the development of new products. The example contains four stages of the knowledge discovery process, such as data selection, data transformation, data mining, and the interpretation of patterns. Among data mining techniques, a fuzzy neural system is chosen to seek relationships between data from completed projects and other data stored in an ERP system.

The aim of the article is to present evolution in change management models and the need of redesigning the current change management concepts with the use of organisational network analysis. Then the author underlines benefits of organisational network analysis enabling deep research on current change management trends. In addition, the article uncovers very introductory empirical research aimed at estimating the need for revitalising change management models. The objective of this paper is to examine application possibilities of a T.L. Saaty’s AHP/ANP method in a new confrontational pattern-based design method used for IT systems evaluation. Comparison engine was used in the paper as an example. First, the authors presented characteristic and specific features and assumptions of the new methodology, in context of its belonging to the group of agile methods. Next, they conducted assumptions and a study verifying the application of this methodology in the analyses preceding the execution of the project aiming at creating a new comparison engine, based on the model which received the highest scores in the evaluation. The results of the study were analysed in two cases: scoring method and AHP/ANP method. Next the authors examined their usefulness with regard to the application of the presented method. In the end the conclusions were drawn for the definition of directions for further research.

The aim of the article is to present the concept of business model (based on A. Osterwalder’s business model framework) as an outsourcing project planning and description tool in Electrolux Poland Ltd. The article opens with a synthetic overview of the business model proposed by A. Osterwalder as well as justification for the selection of this particular concept as a tool for project planning and description. Next, the company`s outsourcing projects are briefly presented. The paper closes the description of the business model as a tool of the project management in Electrolux Poland Ltd. The case shows the potential of this Business Model Canvas in the management of not only the company as a whole (level of ownership and board of directors), but also project management within the organization. It proves that the concept can be very useful in particular in the planning stage of the project; it also serves more precise (more understandable, coherent) project description.

Współcześnie coraz popularniejszym sposobem nabycia i użytkowania systemów informatycznych, takich jak systemy wspomagające zarządzanie projektem, jest model Software as a Service. Model SaaS polega na odpłatnym udostępnianiu w przestrzeni internetowej systemów informatycznych, z których użytkownicy mogą korzystać w trybie online. Celem artykułu jest analiza możliwości zastosowania systemów wspomagających zarządzanie projektami oferowanych w modelu SaaS w działalności organizacji wirtualnej. W artykule na wstępie omówiono organizacje wirtualne, podkreślając jej cechy, strukturę i rolę technologii IT dla jej funkcjonowania. W dalszej części przedstawiono ogólną charakterystykę modelu SaaS oraz podkreślono korzyści i zagrożenia związane z użytkowaniem systemów PMS w modelu SaaS. Następnie zasygnalizowano różnorodne uwarunkowania związane z nabyciem i użytkowaniem systemów PMS w formie usługi do wspomagania działalności organizacji wirtualnej. W końcowej części pracy wymieniono niektóre systemy PMS dostępne w modelu SaaS, które mogą wspierać działalność krajowych i międzynarodowych organizacji wirtualnych.
