Opis:
The given article is devoted to agent-based approach used to the construction of income distribution models, at which the economic systems are designed as an aggregate of autonomous interactive agents. The considered models open a new way for the income distribution analysis, which manifests itself in the interaction between a large number of economic agents, which allows to set between the desired stationary distributions.

Opis:
The paper tries to indicate two reasons for worldwide growing income disparity. The first one is capitalism transformation from individual ownership to anonymous, broadly diversified portfolio holders, who do not adhere to a particular company for a long time. The leading role is played by the company management, especially its CEO. Capital owners become finance holders who look only at temporarily best investment opportunities. Therefore, the managers are compelled to race for higher rate of return. To ensure that the assets portfolio of financial owners is diversified, financial capitalists prefer short-time investment strategies, focusing more on short-time efficiency than on long-time development, mainly on cost reductions, including workers’ salaries. Such efforts are accompanied by a strong and continuous rise in labour productivity (the second factor). Over time, fewer people are needed to participate in the production process, which contributes to the weakness of the labour force in the struggles for salary. This constrains the income rise for a big part of the society and leads to a global demand squeeze.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to obtain a sample from the world income distribution (WID). We assumed log-logistic form of countries’ income distributions with unit means. This implies that such distributions are fully described by their corresponding Gini indices. Gini estimates came from Deninger-Squire, WID2, and other databases for 119 countries in the years 1990-2005. We generated random sample for every distribution and multiplied its values by GDP/capita. Sample size was controlled by sequential ratio test. The world sample consisted of country samples weighted by population shares. We have found that WID is bimodal with diminishing inequality and poverty during analyzed period.

Opis:
Finite mixtures of probability distributions may be successfully used in the modeling of probability distributions of incomes. These distributions are typically heavy tailed and positively skewed. This article deals with the problem of determining the number of components in mixture modeling. This paper considers the likelihood of ratio-based testing of the null hypothesis of homogeneity in mixture models. The number of components is an important parameter in the applications of finite mixture models.

Opis:
In the text the development of distributions (and their characteristics) of the equivalised net annual nominal income in Czech households in 2004-2009 is studied. Three-parametric lognormal and Dagum distributions are used as a model for income probability distribution. Moreover, finite mixtures of these distributions are estimated for the models with an observable component membership (given by the number of economically active members of the household and the number of unemployed members). Data from the European Union survey – Statistics on Income and Living Conditions 2005-2010 – are used for the analysis. All the estimates in the text are obtained using the maximum likelihood method.

Opis:
Since the 1970s, Italians have experienced considerable demographic changes: a sharp fall in the birth rate with a contemporaneous ageing of the population, and more residents aged 65 years and over than under the age of 20. These changes are due not only to a change in cultural attitude: they depend also on the economic difficulties Italian families face when increasing their family size. At the same time, we have to observe that in Italy, the personal tax system does not recognise, as it should, the social and economic efforts families undertake in their role of bringing up children and increasing human capital. This is verified by looking at both the implicit costs recognised by the personal tax system, and the violations of three axioms, which according to Kakwani and Lambert [1998], a fair tax system should respect. The Italian tax system recognises rather low implicit costs to income earners when they have to take care of children: moreover these implicit costs are an inverse function of taxable income and become irrelevant for middle level incomes. With reference to Kakwani and Lambert’s axioms, the overwhelming majority of violations are made against families with children.
