    The author’s aim is to analyse the problem of criticism in the context of political sciences, in particular in the context of political philosophy. The issue is considered in the light of two basic epistemological standpoints: contextualism and presentism. These two approaches are often regarded as mutually exclusive; however, the author presents arguments for their possible complementarity and demonstrates that their concurrence is the necessary point of departure for critical attitudes in political philosophy.

    Opis:
    The aim of this article is to analyze Plato’s epistemology of politics in the light of Book VII of the Republic, in which the Allegory of the Cave is introduced. The problem named in the title is presented within the framework of a veritative interpretation of Greek ontology (referencing Charles Kahn’s work) and against the backdrop of Plato’s polemic with sophistry (Protagoras and Gorgias), along with references to the sources of Plato’s inspiration – the Eleatics and Pythagoreans. In my analysis I propose hypotheses concerning certain aspects of the Cave Allegory (e.g. the status of the fire) and present my interpretation of Plato’s politico-philosophical project.

    In his book, Paul Berman outlines a productive framework for a further interpretation of ideas of the leftist thinkers in North America and Europe. This article tries to follow Berman’s approach and to provide a critical stance towards the views of a number of Western social and political philosophers who write after 1968 and even after 1989. My findings confirm Berman’s light irony to this trend of thought but emphasize that some of the works discussed seem to be realistic in avoiding unjustified optimism concerning the leftist position.

    This article aims to introduce Florence Burgat, a phenomenologist and one of the outstanding contemporary animalist philosophers in France, with a special emphasis put on her last book, L’humanité carnivore (2017) in which she analyses “the carnivorous fact.” What Burgat describes as the equivalence principle would let us liberate from our anthropologically conditioned sacrificial structure, whereas clean meat makes it possible to elude the carnivorous fact as irreducible. However, unlike Burgat, I consider this fact in the context of the technological dimension of consumerist capitalism. Going beyond Burgat’s anthropological perspective (though with no intention to question the relevance of her observations), I opt for the perspective of a critique of political economy. What Burgat refers to as “ovo-lacto-meaty plethora” might be seen as an effect of a prototypical disruptive innovation. Therefore, one may read this article as an attempt for making the animal life the object of a critique of political economy.
    Niniejszy artykuł wprowadza do polskiego dyskursu najszerzej pojętych „studiów nad zwierzętami” sylwetkę Florence Burgat, fenomenolożki i jednej z czołowych francuskich filozofek zajmujących się życiem zwierzęcym, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej ostatniej książki, L’humanité carnivore [Ludzkość mięsożerna] (2017), w której analizuje ona „fakt mięsożerny”. Nie kwestionując wartości odkrytej przez Burgat zasady ekwiwalencji, która mogłaby pozwolić nam na wyjście z uwarunkowanej antropologicznie struktury ofiarniczej, a – dzięki mięsu bezofiarnemu (czystemu mięsu) – niejako obejść nieredukowalny fakt mięsożerny, rozpatruję jednak ów fakt w kontekście technologicznego wymiaru konsumenckiego kapitalizmu. Porzucając perspektywę antropologiczną na rzecz krytyki ekonomii politycznej, usiłuję dowieść że w „owo-lakto-mięsnym nadmiarze” (Burgat) naszych czasów, można upatrywać efektu prototypowej zaburzającej innowacji. Tym samym artykuł można czytać jako próbę uczynienia z życia zwierzęcego przedmiotu krytyki ekonomii politycznej.
