In certain way, “displacement” refers to the change. It is the action of a body that moves from a certain space to another. In addition to its obvious physical implications, in the case of human displacement, there are also great subjective implications. In this way, displacement can be of other orders, as symbolic, metaphysical and mental, we can also consider even maturation as the displacement from one psychic state to another. In this case, the present work aims to analyze the different figurations of the concept of displacement present in the work: Displacement - A travelogue by Lucy Knisley, as well as the affiliation of the work to a narrative tradition perpetrated by authors who take the daily genre and the trip report as a means of subjective construction of reality, both in literature and in comics. In order to do so, will be used authors who studied the writing of female authors, having the travel narrative as a research horizon, such as Sonia Serrano and Miriam Adelman; as well as authors who focus on the specificities of the comic language that, under the aegis of “graphic novel”, engender an aesthetic construction that privileges the autobiographical narrative (Santiago Garcia and Hilarry Chute). We intend to highlight the richness that the comics bring to the symbolic construction of the genre “travel diary/narrative” through its peculiarities of self-representation.

Reflections on Subjectivity from the Perspective of the (Bio)medicalization ProcessesAbstract: The paper deploys conceptualizations and theories typical of cultural studies in order to discuss mechanisms orchestrating the formation of human subjectivity from a perspective of (bio)medicalization processes (Peter Conrad, Adele E. Clarke); that is, modernization tendencies aiming to subordinate social practices to medical jurisdiction. In this methodological context, the article is also an interdisciplinary research project which gestures towards a conceptualization of human subjectivity in which considerations referring to the dichotomy 169 of agency and structure (Anthony Giddens, Piotr Sztompka) are supplemented by the factor of human corporality. The opportunity to subsume biological and biomedical issues within cultural studies without the risk of biological reductionism is the result of providing a theory of subjectivity that involves its probabilistic character. The notion of probabilistic subjectivity is a theoretical construct whose significance for cultural theories springs from the development of genetics and molecular biology and their contribution to processes of biomedicalization.Keywords: medicalization, biomedicalization, subjectivity

Clarke), czyli tendencji modernizacyjnych, które zmierzają do podporządkowania praktyk społecznych szeroko pojmowanej jurysdykcji medycznej. W przestrzeni tak zarysowanej optyki badawczej prezentowany artykuł jest jednocześnie interdyscyplinarnym projektem badawczym zmierzającym w kierunku takiej konceptualizacji podmiotowości jednostkowej, w której perspektywa wyznaczona przez opozycję agency-structure (Anthony Giddens, Piotr Sztompka) zostaje uzupełniona przez rozważania dotyczące cielesności człowieka. Możliwość włączenia problematyki biologicznej i biomedycznej w ramy humanistycznych teorii podmiotowości bez ryzyka bycia narażonym na zarzut nieuprawnionego redukcjonizmu biologicznego pojawia się w jako rezultat takiej konceptualizacji podmiotowości, która uwzględnia jej probabilistyczny charakter. Podmiotowość probabilistyczna jest natomiast postrzegana jako konstrukt teoretyczny, którego znaczenie dla nauk o kulturze jest konsekwencją rozwoju genetyki i biologii molekularnej oraz ich wiodącego wkładu w przebieg procesów biomedykalizacji.   Masks Off. The author offers a critical judgment of Lacanian psychoanalysis, pointing out its normativizing aspect. He acknowledges the impossibility of reconciliation of psychoanalytic thought with the theory of radical difference, the example of which is queer, which has been postulated by such scholars as Judith Butler, Lee Edelman or Leo Bersani. As Eribon claims, queer theory constitutes a continuation of (antipsychoanalytic) philosophy of Michel Foucault, and it would be theoretically much more inspiring – Eribon further argues – to try to juxtapose Foucault’s thought with Sartre rather than with Freud or Lacan.

The portraying of the subjects in front of the looking glass is a literary topic in which the body is involved in a range of possibilities. From the corporeality of the “other” reflected by/in the narcissistic or self-critic perspective about the appearance of oneself, the mirror offers to Spanish contemporary poets a fruitful frame to explore all the variations of anagnorisis and dis-cognition. The text develops a theoretical and cultural episteme in order to read the work of a number of Spanish poets, in which the body analysed in the looking glass could adopt the form of grief, complaint, egotistical exposure, cultural references (e.g. Alice or Narcissus), or technological exam.

Karol Wojtyła’s Osoba i czyn (in English translation known as The Acting Person) is certainly an extraordinary book having considerable significance for contemporary human philosophy. And because the philosophical or quasi-philosophical concept of the human person, consciously or not, explicitly or implicitly, is always at the root of any sociological, psychological, pedagogical or even economic theory, the importance of this work is even greater. It involves both the humanities and social sciences. The purpose of this article is to point out the benefits of this groundbreaking book. In particular, it allows us to rethink the paradigmatic foundations of these sciences. At the same time, it attempts to show how necessary is a critical revision of their own paradigmatic basis. I would also like to consider the essence of the human concept, especially from the perspective of critical realism. Especially, I deal with the issue of subjectivity and justification for the choice of this concept as the key to understanding individual agency. I am convinced that agency is only one dimension of subjectivity and does not allow us to understand the whole problem of autonomy, human freedom, and the meaning of humanity. Wojtyła’s The Acting Person seems to provide extremely important arguments in favor of my thesis. It also helps, I think, to understand the essence of individual subjectivity, issues of fundamental importance in our time, peculiarly, in the broadly understood human sciences.

Reverend Józef Tischner was undoubtedly one of the most outstanding Polish philosophers of the second half of the twentieth century. What we owe to this student of Roman Ingarden is the flourishing of phenomenology and the philosophy of dialog not only in our domestic philosophical, but also sociological, psychological, and anthropological thought. His philosophy of drama is an original and very important current, which is enriched not only by the “Queen of the Sciences” but also offers great support to the related sciences, particularly sociological sciences. Within them, subjectivity is an extremely important subject of contemplation. This article is a sketch of the analysis of the benefits that a sociologist, researcher of subjectivity, can derive from reading Józef Tischner’s works.

The point of departure of the article is an analysis of medical discourse of the end of 19th century, which was concentrated on the symptoms of neurasthenia – a disease of men who were considered victims of civilisation, in contrast to women’s hysteria, regarded as their bodily affliction. The author notes a special status of this discourse which transcends the borders of medicine and diagnoses the whole social field: it becomes entangled in the relationships between sexes and genders, in class, ethnical and national stratification; expresses the traits of capitalism, democracy and its requirements, thus becoming a means of conveying contemporary ideas and phantasms concerning sexuality and its relation with subjectivity. The phantasmic projections of “endangered” masculinity, lined with panic and fear, constitute the main objects of reconstruction and interpretation.

Robots are becoming part of people’s everyday surroundings. Therefore, the formation and change of people’s attitude towards objects equipped with artificial intelligence is becoming an important subject of reflection. Substantial research has already been conducted, but few predictions have been made about the future relationship between humanity and autonomous, multi-tasking and highly advanced artificial intelligence. The purpose of this article is an attempt at extrapolating the evolution of the human-robot bond so far, from alienation and a sense of threat toward tameness, affection and even―perhaps―friendship. The study of the evolution of the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence makes it also possible to deepen our understanding of who human beings are, what their needs, expectations, and hopes are, and which of them can be realized through close cooperation between humans and artificial intelligence.
Roboty stają się częścią codziennego otoczenia człowieka. Dlatego ważnym przedmiotem refleksji staje się kształtowanie i zmiana stosunku ludzi do obiektów wyposażonych w sztuczną inteligencję. Przeprowadzono już wiele badań, lecz nieliczne są prognozy dotyczące przyszłych relacji między ludzkością a autonomiczną, wielozadaniową i wysoko zaawansowaną sztuczną inteligencją. Celem artykułu jest próba ekstrapolacji dotychczasowej ewolucji więzi człowiek – robot, od obcości i poczucia zagrożenia w stronę oswojenia, sympatii, a nawet – być może przyjaźni. Badanie ewolucji stosunku człowieka do sztucznej inteligencji pozwala również pogłębić wiedzę o tym, kim jest istota ludzka, jakie są jej potrzeby, oczekiwania i nadzieje oraz które z nich mogą zostać zrealizowane dzięki bliskiej współpracy między człowiekiem a sztuczną inteligencją.

Oriana Fallaci had the opportunity to closely observe the efforts the US made during the Space Race which was sealed in 1957 by the launch of the first Russian Sputnik. The journalist knew dozens of NASA workers (including astronauts, engineers and doctors) and others (external scientists, advertisers, writers). Based on the interviews and articles printed in L’Europeo, Fallaci published two books Se il Sole muore (1965) and Quel giorno sulla Luna (1970). Recently, the publishing house Rizzoli collected some of Fallaci’s texts that appeared in this weekly newspaper (L’Europeo) between 1964 and 1980 in the volume La Luna di Oriana (2018). It would be worth analyzing the cornerstones of Fallaci’s narrative approach, resembling in many ways the American New Journalism – with its tension between information and emotion, interpretation and persuasion – in her work before the famous war reports.

In the article, I put forward the thesis that research based on scientistic assumptions (in the sense of the tendency to make the humanities and social sciences similar to natural sciences, that is: based on ontological and methodological naturalism) is marginal and only auxiliary importance in the exploration of human practices (I consider it on the example of pedagogy as the science of a subjective and communicational undertaking called education). I argue that when the scientistic model of research becomes dominant – as it is nowadays – it obscures the basic subject of pedagogical research: education. As a result, the public image of education is reduced and distorted.
W artykule stawiam tezę, że badania oparte na założeniach scjentystycznych (w sensie dążenia do upodobnienia nauk humanistycznych i społecznych do nauk przyrodniczych, czyli opartych na naturalizmie ontologicznym i metodologicznym) mają charakter marginalny, a ich znaczenie dla eksploracji ludzkich praktyk ma co najwyżej pomocniczy charakter. (Rozważam tę tezę na przykładzie pedagogiki jako nauki o przedsięwzięciu podmiotowym i komunikacyjnym, zwanym edukacją). Twierdzę, że kiedy scjentystyczny model badań staje się dominujący – jak ma to miejsce obecnie – zaciemnia on podstawowy przedmiot badań pedagogicznych: edukację. W rezultacie publiczny wizerunek edukacji jest pomniejszony i zniekształcony.

W artykule analizuję ostatnią książkę Wojciecha Karpińskiego pt. 120 dni „Kultury” w kontekście filozofii człowieka Paula Ricoeura. Karpiński wybrał publikowane w paryskiej „Kulturze” teksty pisarzy, którzy go najbardziej inspirowali, uczyli patrzenia na świat i na drugiego człowieka, a przede wszystkim pokazywali, jak odkrywać piękno sztuki. „Ja” Karpińskiego kształtowało się w spotkaniu z innymi artystami. Tożsamość narracyjna jest pomostem prowadzącym do zaproponowanej przez francuskiego filozofa koncepcji otwartej dialektyki, która łączy dwa podejścia. Po pierwsze badacz przyjmuje porządek aposterioryczny, wychodząc od konkretu, czyli jednostkowego podmiotu umiejscowionego w określonych realiach życiowych, zanurzonego w konkretnej kulturze, posiadającego własną historię i doświadczenia, po drugie posługuje się kantowskim zwrotem, prowadząc refleksję o podmiocie w perspektywie transcendentalnej. Podmiotowość to zwrócenie się ku Innemu, a dzięki Innemu dokonuje się transcendowanie siebie. Jak dowodzi francuski filozof, w języku istnieje „siła ontologiczna”, która wskazuje na określony sposób bycia-w-świecie. Tożsamość podlega świadomym przeobrażeniom, a literatura jest artystycznym zapisem tego ruchu i zarazem dyskursem kulturowo-antropologicznym.
The article analyses Wojciech Karpiński’s latest book titled 120 dni „Kultury” in the context of Paul Ricoeur’s philosophy of man. Karpiński chose texts published in “Kultura”, a Parisian literary magazine, from writers who inspired him the most, taught him how to look at the world and at other people, and above all showed him how to discover the beauty of art. Karpiński’s ‘I’ was shaped by his encounter with other artists. Narrative identity is a bridge leading to the concept of open dialectics proposed by the French philosopher, which combines two methods. One involves the researcher adopting an a posteriori approach, starting from the concrete, i.e. the individual subject located in specific realities of life, immersed in a specific culture, having their own history and experiences. For the other, the researcher uses a Kantian turn, reflecting on the subject in a transcendental perspective. Subjectivity means turning towards the Other, and thanks to the Other, one transcends oneself. As Ricoeur argues, there is an “ontological force” in language that points to a certain way of being-inthe-world. Identity is consciously transformed, and literature is simultaneously an artistic record of this movement and a cultural-anthropological discourse.

Opis:
U članku se raspravlja o problematici melankolije, njezinim izvorima, mehanizmima te njezinoj suštini. Na osnovi priče Olge Tokarczuk pod naslovom "Ormar" te njezinog prijevoda na hrvatski jezik traži se odgovor na pitanja o odnosu melankolije i jezika, razmatra se umjetnost kao način borbe s nebitkom (pa tako i s melankolijom), ispituju se načini prisutnosti i postojanja melankoličnog subjektiviteta u tekstu. Kategorija melankolije (porijeklom iz psihoanalize) može poslužiti također za određivanje bića teksta, a posebno prijevoda. Rekonstruirana na osnovi Ormara melankolija je općekulturni (ili radije izvankulturni) fenomen. Univerzalnost melankolije i alegoričan karakter priče Olge Tokarczuk ukidaju barijere između kulture originala i prijevoda, upisujući ih u isti okvir što olakšava prevođenje. Glavni izvor kulturnih barijera su u tom slučaju jezične (osobito gramatičke) razlike.
The aim of this article is to illustrate the phenomenon of melancholy, its sources, mechanisms and modes of existence. Basing on "The Wardrobe" by Olga Tokarczuk and its Croatian translation the author tries to demonstrate a relation between melancholy and language, she considers the art as a kind of fight against nothingness (and melancholy) and explores the textual manifestation of melancholic subjectivity. A psychoanalytic approach to melancholy aids to determine the condition of text (the translated text in particular). The image of melancholy reconstructed from "The Wardrobe" is a culture-independent phenomenon. The universalism of melancholy and the allegorical nature of Tokarczuk’s work remove barriers between original and translated text culture facilitating the act of translation. The main source of cultural barriers, in this case, are the linguistic (mainly grammatical) differences.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is a straightforward one: to step back from the increasing use of assemblage in recent debates and to attempt to take stock of what assemblage thinking offers to humanities. I relate the answer to this question to the title concept of “sewn-together” humanities, which has a tentative and ad hoc character. The starting point is the analysis of the video installation realized by Angela Melitopoulos and Maurizio Lazzarato, entitled Assemblages, which relies upon the concept of assemblages proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Assuming that research practices and theories combine assemblages of ideas of both abstract and practical nature, I analyse examples of the application of assemblage thinking and action at the levels of a method, methodology, and onto-epistemology, tracing the goals that humanities achieve by means of this approach to research.
Zadanie tego artykułu jest proste: zdystansowanie się od wzrastającego na sile stosowania pojęcia asamblażu we współczesnych debatach i próba podjęcia kwestii co myślenie asamblażowe ma do zaoferowania humanistyce. Odpowiedź na to pytanie wiążę z tytułowym konceptem "pozszywanej" humanistyki, który ma charakter roboczy i doraźny. Punktem wyjścia jest analiza wideoinstalacji zrealizowanej przez Angelę Melipoulos i Maurizio Lazzarato pod tytułem Assemblages/Asamblaże, wykorzystującej koncepcję asamblaży Gillesa Deleuze’a i Félixa Guattariego. Przyjmując, że praktyki badawcze i teorie  łączą zespoły idei o charakterze abstrakcyjnym i praktycznym, analizuję przykłady zastosowania myślenia i działania asamblażowego na poziomie metody, metodologii i onto-epistemologii, śledząc cele, jakie osiąga  dzięki takiemu podejściu badawczemu humanistyka.

Punktem wyjścia do rozważań jest przekonanie o tym, że na pewnym ogólnym, w pewien sposób zmetaforyzowanym poziomie, da się przedstawić relację człowieka ze światem poprzez analizę i interpretację cielesnych praktyk zakorzenionych w materialnym charakterze swego rodzaju narzędzi kulturowych, które pośredniczą w poznaniu świata przez człowieka i tę relację również ustanawiają. Celem tekstu jest przedstawienie koncepcji wpływu kształtu aparatów fotograficznych na wykształcenie się myślenia podmiotowego w XIX wieku, a następnie interpretacja wpływu fotografii na człowieka współczesnego, co w efekcie prowadzi do ponownego ustanawiania zbiorowości. Kontekstem i podłożem interpretacyjnym do tego będą rozważania o średniowiecznej symbolice kościołów, traktowanych tutaj jako aparaty numinotyczne.
The article’s point of departure is the assumption that at a general, somewhat metaphorical level, it is possible to present the relationship between man and the world through the analysis and interpretation of bodily practices, resulting from the material character of intermediaries, cultural tools mediating human cognition of the world and re-establishing the relationship between man and this world. If the material character of the mediator is significant, the question can also be asked as to the extent to which the design and shape of the mediator will influence the shape of this relationship. The aim of the text is to put forward a thesis on the influence of the shape of photographic cameras on the development of subjective thinking in the 19th century and then on the contemporary re-establishment of the community. The context and basis for this interpretation will be the medieval symbolism of churches, treated here as numinotic cameras.
