    Opis:
    The article deals with the different levels of reception of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s ‘Christian epic’ Quo Vadis in Bulgaria. It focuses on an issue which is of exceptional interest in the Bulgarian context: Quo Vadis is amongst the most widely read and translated novels of the world classics and yet has not been integrated in the ‘repertoire’ of Bulgarian literary science and thought. According to some research statistics its scale of reception is phenomenological, but it has not impacted our literary tradition of novel writing. This is a paradox, which can only be explained as a result of the specificity of the intellectual and religious experience of the Bulgarian people.

    Opis:
    The author of the article – Yi Lijun, a distinguished translator of Polish literary works into Chinese – attempts to present the reception of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s works in China, con-centrating on the issues concerning translations. She presents vignettes of the greatest scholars’ discussing Sienkiewicz’s works, the history of reception of Sienkiewicz’s writings, as well as the methods of popularizing his novels. She concentrates on problematics concerning the process of translating Trylogy from Polish language into Chinese, pointing out the difficulties and mistakes made by translators. She discusses her own work on translating the novels of the author of Quo vadis.

    Celem pracy jest próba scharakteryzowania współczesnej powieści historycznej. Przetestowane zostają założenia Pawła Ćwikły dotyczące esencjonalnych cech fabularnej literatury historycznej. W ramach studium przypadku analizie poddaję twórczość Ewy Kassali, międzynarodowej pisarki polskiego pochodzenia. By zdobyć informacje, korzystam z metody narracyjnej Nathalie Heinich. Główne motywy w twórczości Kassali zidentyfikowane w ten sposób zbiegają się z przyjętymi założeniami: nacisk kładziony jest na ponadczasowe zdarzenia fabularne, przy dbałości o realizm historyczny. Elementem dodatkowym jest, na wzór Henryka Sienkiewicza, pisanie „ku pokrzepieniu serc” i podnoszenie morale czytelnika.
    Mikołaj Jerzy Woźniak’s aim in this article is to characterize the contemporary historical novel. Woźniak examines critically Paweł Ćwikła’s assumptions regarding the essential features of fictional historical literature. As a case study, Woźniak analyzes the work of Ewa Kassala, an internationally acclaimed author of Polish descent. Using Nathalie Heinich’s narrative method in his research, Woźniak identifies the main themes in Kassala’s work, which allows him to confirm the outset assumptions. Kassala puts emphasis on timeless fictional events, while paying ample attention to historical realism. An additional element, following the example of Henryk Sienkiewicz, is the idea that historical fiction should “fortify the hearts of the readers” and raise their morale.

    The article discusses the translation of Polish children’s and young adult literature into Slovenian from the beginning to the present day. The first part includes a statistical overview of all Slovenian translations of Polish works for children and young adults published in book form between 1912 and 2020. The overview provides information on the dynamics of translations, the most translated authors and works, and the most prominent translators. The second part focuses on the young adult bestseller W pustyni i w puszczy [In Desert and Wilderness] by Henryk Sienkiewicz, which is the most popular Polish work for young readers in Slovenia. The discussion of the Polish original is followed by a translatological analysis of the Slovenian editions and a presentation of their reception. Both parts of the article deal with a topic that has not been studied in detail so far and fill an important gap in the research on Slovenian-Polish contacts.

    Artykuł poświęcony włoskim podróżom Henryka Sienkiewicza. Perpektywa uświęconego wielowiekową tradycją Grand Tour zastąpiona zostaje tu jednak doświadczeniem maladycznym. Śmierć Marii, która zmarła na gruźlicę osierociwszy dwójkę dzieci, skazała Sienkiewicza na życie w ciągłym napięciu, w jakimś stanie rozgorączkowanego niepokoju. I właśnie zapis owego niepokoju, lęku, "gorączki" - stanowi tekstowy ślad, kartograficzny zapis "mapujący" doświadczenia rozpadu.
    Il saggio è dedicato ai viaggi italiani di Henryk Sienkiewicz. La prospettiva del Grand Tour, santificata da secoli di tradizione, è qui sostituita da un’esperienza maladica. La morte di sua moglie, che morì di tubercolosi lasciando orfani due figli, con dannò Sienkiewicz ad una vita in costante tensione, in uno stato di ansia febbrile. Ed è la registrazione di questa ansia, paura, “febbre” – che costituisce la traccia testuale, la registrazione cartografica dell’esperienza della disgregazione.
    The article is devoted to the Italian travels of Henryk Sienkiewicz. The perspective of the time-honored “Grand Tour” is replaced here by a maladic experience. The death of his wife, who died of tuberculosis, orphaned two children, condemned Sienkiewicz to a life of constant tension, in some state of feverish anxiety. And it is the record of this anxiety, fear, „fever” that constitutes a text trace, a cartographic record “mapping” the experience of disintegration.
