Opis:
The article discusses the volume of reports by Ewa Winnicka. The author of the article examines the contact between two different (Polish and British) cultures, both deeply rooted in different traditions and entangled by evident stereotypes. The reason for such cultural interference is, that Polish emigration to Great Britain is facetiously described by the author as ‘the invasion of the colonizers’. Winnicka’s narrative strategy enables readers to observe localinhabitants as well as Polish migrants who have different experiences and attitudes. This ‘unsymmetrical dialogue’ reveals that, a ‘colonizer’ as a stranger must always lose, because he exists in between his native community (that he does not belong to anymore) and the new one (that he aspires to, trying to prove that he is worth being accepted).

Opis:
The article conjoins several interpretative perspectives. The first one focuses on Kazimiera Alberti’s volume of poetry entitled Usta Italji [The Mouth of Italy] published in the 1930s, in which Alberti unconsciously predicts her future. Her poetic excursions into Italian cities, enhanced by autothematic tropes, reveal the writerly-feminine subjectivity. What the biographical discourse delineates there is the frame for affective experiences, such as melancholy, sadness, and passion. This experience of the place would be identified today as the poetics of space, in which actual addresses merge with made up after-images. The second part of the article is devoted to Kazimiera Alberti’s experience of living in – and not only sightseeing – Italy. An analysis of the cultural memory code makes it possible to accurately portray the effort with which the poet seeks an original way of inhabiting the world that spans between the tragic Polish past and the Italian space of salvage. A reflection on Kazimiera Alberti’s letter to Maria Grabowiecka becomes not only an interpretative procedure but also – and primarily – a trigger to discuss the (arguably) central theme in Alberti’s oeuvre: the gesture of re-creation. This gesture stands for the attempt to re-create the world in the language of great cultural myths, or for the creative passion whose poetic evocation is Capri – an island equally real and “made up” or imagined.

Those are part of the reasons why this literary master has passed by almost unnoticed in this culture and his works are pushed aside from the main literary streams. The article also deals with translating problems concerning the alienation / otherness and the way foreign realities are transferred from Polish to Macedonian language.

The author of the article stresses that what constitutes the purpose of humanistic education is showing the world from different perspectives and ambiguity as its inherent ingredient, which should be approached as both didactic and axiological challenge (especially in the light of concept of young people’s civic education). In this context he proposes to have a glance at cultural microcosm (of today’s Israel) described by Paweł Smoleński in his book published in 2019 entitled Wnuki Jozuego [Joshua’s Grandchildren]. The Polish author of reportages shows in the said book how - based on the example of Jewish Israeli settlers in the West Bank - dealing with religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity and experiencing them on the daily basis, paves the way for radical views and, consequently, for unifying the past, present, and the future. Many among Smoleński’s interlocutors/interviewees, however, touch upon the need for open dialogue, accepting otherness, and various outlooks on the most burning issues. Therefore, the story thus told may be treated as a warning against believing in only one righteous truth, as well as against the said belief’s negative influence on the sphere of public exchange of thoughts.

The paper concerns the documentary project focused on the books Projekt: prawda [Project: Truth] and Nie ma [Not There] by Mariusz Szczygieł. The publications are discussed in terms of the characteristics of a transmedia story in which the original books develop through a narrative connection to a complex of complementary press, internet, stage and audio sources. The author provides an overview of the main components of Szczygieł’s project and an analysis of the interaction programmed between them. She subsequently refers this to the assumptions of what is referred to as transmedia genology in order to show the changes in the poetics of Polish literary reportage under the influence of media digitisation and convergence.

The purpose of this article is to redefine the category of “contamination”, entrenched in the tradition of literary reportage. Due to the process of genre blurring, the original meaning of the term (the one connected with the presence of creational elements in the reporter’s writings) has now been replaced by a more complex definition. The author creates the hypothesis that the “contamination” of contemporary reportage is caused also by the increase of subjective and emotional factors in journalistic narration. To illustrate this assumption, the article provides an analysis of the book Zapiski na biletach. Written by the Polish reporter Michał Olszewski the book serves as an example of genetic changes of the reportage convention.

The paper encourages one to listen to the voice of refugees and to develop an in-terest in their lives in order to understand how they define their rights, what they derive them from, and how they judge their observance by the interna-tional community. In fact, these deliberations are connected with a problem which is important for contemporary education, namely how to shape a genu-inely humanistic attitude among young Poles towards people from different cultures, who are additionally forced to leave their homes.

The present essay reflects upon the outstanding, from the reporter’s craft point of view, and unprecedented when it comes to empathy (which sometimes borders on European, colonialcomplicity) books by Jean Hatzfeld (born 1949), which consist of five volumes on Rwanda: Dans le nu de la vie. Récits des marais rwandais (2000), Une saison de machettes (2002), La stratégie des antilopes: récits (2007), Engelbert des collines (2014), Un papa de sang (2015). Various definitions of genocide (starting with the notion itself, authored by criminal lawyer, a Polish Jew Rafał Lemkin (1900–1959)), that were also formulated ad hoc in works of art (thecase of a feature film by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze Ptaki śpiewają w Kigali [Birds Are Singing in Kigali]) prove to be a kind of Ariadne’s thread. Embedding Hatzfeld’s reportages in the context of the notion of genocide aims at broadening the field of associations for both, the narrator himself and his Rwandan interlocutors, whosporadically and comparatively/by way of comparison refer to the Shoah.

Intermedialność stanowi sposób na oddanie traumatycznego doświadczenia postkatastroficznego.

Confessions of a Reporter by Igor Kostin, and the comic book Chernobyl. The Zone, by Natasha Bustos and Francesco Sanchez. They are connected not only by subject matter but also by a combination of visual and language codes. Intermediality is a way to describe the traumatic post-catastrophic experience.

The paper addresses the issue of refugees in the broad sense of the term, i.e. people forced to leave their homes and seek conditions for a normal life due to climate change and to the excessive environment footprint left by humans. The numerous reasons for this type of displacement include drought, the grow-ing scarcity of natural resources in seas and oceans, and the unfair distribution of water. These three climate plagues are analysed on the basis of non¬ fiction literature – Wykluczeni [The Excluded], which is a book of reportage by Artur Domosławski, Ben Rawlence’s City of Thorns. Nine Lives in the World’s Largest Refu-gee Camp, and Stefano Liberti’s South of Lampedusa. In the public consciousness, migrations motivated by climate change and human interference in the ecosys-tem have been functioning since recently, but they will actually become the greatest challenge of our day and age. This is why the important role played by humanities is to speak about them, to comment on their performative power, to debate on potential solutions, and to trigger warning discourses leading to the development of a habit of imagining “scenarios for the future”. Acts of imagi-nation provide the possibility to shape the world in an unlimited way and to play out in a virtual manner some key social, cultural and political situations, in order to live well on an overcrowded planet, where water, land and food may be lacking a few decades from now.
