In the first part of the article the possibilities of mutual influence between methodology of Polish language teaching and glottodidactics of Polish language are discussed. The idea of cultural program and cultural method designed to realize it is briefly presented here. In the second part of the article the idea of cultural program is discussed in diachronic aspect: the possibility of introducing teaching (presentation) of foreign culture as a part of foreign lan-guage teaching as well as Polish culture as a part of teaching Polish as a foreign language. The article concludes with some predictions concerning leading tendencies in glottodidactics of Polish language between 2011 and 2020.

Soren Gauger is a Canadian writer who has decided to write in Polish. The author of the article examines the writer’s motivations, the way he develops his ideas and his first literary creation in Polish. Soren Gauger’s works reflect his attitude towards Polish culture where he invents defence mechanisms based on feelings of inferiority. In Soren Gauger’s literary works he can be seen to be disregarding the influence of popular trends in hegemonic cultures, referring to old and old-fashioned works, and stylinghimself on marginality and fantasticality.

Dictionaries have had a very important didactic function ever since they first appeared, and they have always been an indispensable help to learners of all languages. In this text, the author reflects whether the general, monolingual Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish, which has been avail-able on the Internet for several years now, might be a useful tool for develop-ing linguistic competence of Polish language learners; in other words, whether this dictionary can be used as a learner’s one. The paper starts with a brief de-scription of the monolingual learner’s dictionary as a specific lexicographic genre and then presents the thorough analyses of the Great Dictionary of Polish macro-and microstructure with the eye on the usefulness of solutions for language learners.

The article presents the most important language rules and tendencies in teaching Polish as a foreign language. The author fully discusses word lists that are obligatory on different levels of proficiency in Polish language, pointing out to their advantages and disadvantages. She reminds about the necessity of completing such lists caused by intensive globalization and computerization. The article presents also problems concerning language used by young peo-ple nowadays, that is not only under the process of constant changes but it also becomes ‘out of date’ very quickly. Using fashionable words and words that have become commonly used as an example the author of the article proves the importance of language intuition while preparing lists of vocabulary for a certain level of language proficiency. The author concen-trates also on describing problems concerning methods of teaching Polish as a foreign lan-guage that are connected with the rapid evolution of the language.

The article describes how to use the competence of a speech therapist in teaching Polish as a foreign language (especially at the early stage of the glottodidactic process). Teaching pronunciation is an integral element of teaching Polish as a foreign language and according to the authors of the article, it can be more effective if the following issues are taken into consideration: diagnosis of speech disorders (including efficiency of speech organs and phonemic hearing) and an efficient therapy. Such an approach is advised in the case of students: 1. who have no biological deficits, however have problems learning correct pronunciation; 2. who have speech defects; or 3. whose pronunciation in a learnt language is influenced by speech therapy.

W artykule przedstawiono sytuację, wyzwania i problemy współczesnej chińskiej polonistyki. Przez ponad 50 lat na terenie Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej funkcjonowała jedna polonistyka — na Pekińskim Uniwersytecie Języków Obcych (Beijing Foreign Studies University), na której kształcono przyszłych tłumaczy, pracowników ministerstw i dyplomacji; Katedra Języka Polskiego na PUJO funkcjonuje do dziś. Od 2009 roku wzrasta w Chinach zainteresowanie nauką języka i kultury polskiej, a polonistyki są tworzone na innych chińskich uniwersytetach, co jest efektem między innymi współpracy Chin z krajami Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz inicjatywy Jeden Pas, Jeden Szlak. W roku akademickim 2020/2021 w Chinach języka polskiego można się uczyć na dwudziestu uczelniach. Dynamiczny rozwój studiów polskich w Chinach stawia przed nauczycielami, studentami oraz instytucjami rządowymi wiele wyzwań.
The article presents the current situation, challenges and problems of Polish studies in China. The oldest department of Polish studies in the PRC was established in 1954 at the Beijing Foreign Studies University and has been functioning to the present day. For over 50 years, there was only one department of Polish studies in the China mainland. However, since 2009, more Chinese universities have started to establish departments of Polish studies. As a result of the China – Central Eastern Europe Cooperation and the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative, the China – Poland relation has been developing dynamically in recent years. Today, in the academic year 2020/2021, 20 Chinese universities offer Polish language programs. The development brings excellent opportunities as well as great challenges for Polish studies in China. Teaching Polish as a foreign language in China, a country remarkably distant in language and culture from Poland, can pose not only entirely new problems but also open new possibilities for further research.

The article discusses the examples of movable past verbs’ suffixes and their usages as described in four old manuals for teaching Polish as a foreign language. They have been confronted with the results of T. Rittel’s and A. Kowalska’s research, which proves that the authors of the old manuals reflected the Polish language of their times in their textbooks. They usually give one form of the past verb, treating it as a model, which was well justified in the case of a spoken language.

The article describes some main problems that Bulgarian students meet during their study of Polish language. The main mistakes in usage of Polish prepositions are grouped in several typological categories and the possible reasons for those mistakes are briefly described. The article is based on a corpus of mistakes made by students that study Polish at the University of Veliko Turnovo. The analysis allows to classify the main difficulties in acquiring Polish prepositions and to build conscious strategy that allows avoiding them in the process of teaching Polish language.

Ce qui est nouveau (dans les vingt dernières années) en ce qui concerne l’apprentissage du polonais comme langue seconde, c'est la place de la Pologne en Europe, en particulier dans l'Union Européenne, son dynamisme économique qui entraîne aussi une dynamique culturelle. De nombreux professionnels étrangers ont besoin d'acquérir rapidement une maîtrise efficace du polonais. Cela change complètement le profil des apprenants : des amoureux de Chopin ou des sympathisants de Solidarność on est passé à des acteurs économiques motivés. Les étrangers parlant polonais ne sont plus des cas uniques faisant sensation : les programmes de radio et TV polonais en invitent de plus en plus nombreux, originaires de tous les continents et maniant bien la langue.
Autorka niniejszego artykułu, rodowita Francuzka i wieloletnia wykładowczyni języka i literatury polskiej na Uniwersytecie Paris-Sorbonne, postuluje, aby nauczyciel języka polskiego jako obcego na bieżąco śledził rozwój teorii lingwistyki ogólnej i wykorzystywał ją w ramach dydaktyki, ograniczając się przy tym do wdrażania wyłącznie przydatnych rozwiązań oraz zwracając szczególną uwagę na to, by uczniowie świadomie zauważali, jak podobne problemy pojawiające się w ich językach ojczystych można wytłumaczyć teoretycznie. Ważna przesłanka prezentowanej metody brzmi następująco: nauczając jakiegokolwiek języka jako obcego, należy nieustannie uaktualniać rozstrzygnięcia konkretnych zagadnień tradycyjnych teorii lokalnych. Dzięki temu można uniknąć konfliktów wynikających z różnic między wiedzą o własnych językach narodowych a języku obcym. Dydaktyk winien zatem starać się przedstawiać przedmiotowy język w taki sposób, aby studenci, którzy nie znają jeszcze ani języka, ani też jego lokalnej – często nawet całkiem odrębnej – terminologii gramatycznej, byli w stanie wstępnie konstruować pewne wyobrażenia o nim w kontraście z innymi językami (którymi władają). Należy jednak pamiętać, że w językoznawstwie ogólnym najczęściej – niestety – nie mamy do dyspozycji wypróbowanych ogólnych pojęć i teorii (poza wyjątkami w dziedzinach takich, jak fonologia i morfologia). Elementem ostatecznym i decydującym udanego poznawania języka polskiego jako obcego pozostają zatem pasja i zaangażowanie samego uczącego się.
The author proposes that teachers of Polish as a foreign language should keep track of the development of contemporary general linguistics. However, in the process they need to focus on the specific problems of Polish while initiating students only into the necessary general linguistic knowledge, using it first and foremost to draw the students’ attention to their own native language, in order to be able to compare it with the second language. An important premise of the proposed method is that when teaching any foreign language we should constantly revisit traditional grammatical theory and terminology. In this way, conflicts resulting from differences between knowledge of one’s national language and a foreign language may be avoided. A specialist in a foreign language should be able to describe it in such a way that people who do not yet know either this language or its respective grammatical terminology are able to build in their minds some representation of it comparable to other languages they already know. Unfortunately, in contemporary general linguistics we do not usually have at our disposal concepts and theories for adequate description of a great variety of languages (except in fields such as phonology and morphology). Therefore, the final and decisive element of successful learning of a foreign language remains the passion and commitment of the learners themselves..

Upowszechnienie się aplikacji internetowych i komunikacji elektronicznej stawia przed glottodydaktyką nowe wyzwania. Uczący się mogą obecnie załatwić wiele spraw życia codziennego, nie spełniając wymagań określonych w standardach biegłości i nie dysponując rozwiniętą wiedzą gramatyczną i sprawnością mówienia. Treści leksykalne i gramatyczne zawarte w programach nauczania i podręcznikach nie zawsze odpowiadają zaś potrzebom związanym z komunikacją internetową. Celem artykułu jest refleksja nad wpływem upowszechnienia się Internetu na dydaktykę jpjo, w odniesieniu do opisu poziomów biegłości, treści programów nauczania, standardów egzaminacyjnych i podręczników oraz poziomu motywacji studentów.
As Internet applications and online communication become more and more popular, language teaching faces new challenges and needs. Using electronic forms of communication, our students are often able to deal with everyday problems in an efficient way, even though their language skills may not be up to the standards drawn in the CERF. Meanwhile, the lexical and grammar contents of teaching curricula and language textbooks do not always respond to the emerging needs of online communication. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the impact of the growing interest in Internet solutions on PFL teaching practice, with reference to language level standards, teaching curricula, exam standards and textbook content, as well as student motivation level. All of these issues seem particularly important in times of pandemic, when online communication has become a necessity rather than an option.
