    Opis:
    The educational system in a given country largely influences the process of shaping of the students’ identity. The text is a study on an excerpt from materi-al which is part of research reconstructing the linguistic and cultural image of Poles and of Slovenians. An analysis of the operational categories of the lin-guistic image of the world is a valuable source of knowledge about the stereo-typical image of the country and of its representatives, reflecting the subjective point of view of respondents. A binary model emerges clearly, with a positive – negative (unambitious) attitude of Slovenians towards science and education. The comparison of the auto- and heterostereotypical approach, in our case the Slovenian one with the Polish one (respondents who had had contact with Slo-venians), yields a broader picture of the studied aspect.

    Artykuł poświęcono językowemu i kulturowemu obrazowi bohaterki powieści Justyny Bednarek pt. Babcocha. Bohaterkę opowieści porównano do stereotypu czarownicy, który został odtworzony z konceptualizacji dziecięcych w językowym obrazie świata dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym. Porównanie obu wizerunków wskazuje na znaczącą modyfikację obrazu wykreowanego przez Justynę Bednarek, ale także na te aspekty samej postaci bohaterki i świata przedstawionego, które mogą zachęcać dziecko do odbioru tekstu.
    The article is devoted to the linguistic and cultural image of the heroine of Justyna Bednarek's novel entitled Babcocha. The story’s heroine was compared to the stereotype of a witch, which was recreated from children’s conceptualizations (of children in younger schoolage). The comparison of the two images indicates a significant modification of the image created by Justyna Bednarek and these aspects of the protagonist and the world represented, which may encourage the child to read the text.

    Opis:
    On the basis of diaries and memoires of children of the Holocaust (Rywka Lipszyc, Renia Knoll, Helga Weissova, Dawid Sierakowiak, Dawid Rubinowicz, Maryla, and Rutka Laskier), Justyna Szewczyk outlines the image of God that emerges in the minds of the protagonists. Using the methodology of the linguistic image of the world, she analyzes this image based on a number of categories: God as seen in tradition and in everyday life; God as seen through feelings, through human identity, fate, suffering, and fatherhood. Of great importance in extrapolating the image of God found in diaries and memoirs is personalization. Personalization manifests itself, for example, in replacing God’s central position, during religious holidays and festivals, with human problems; in transferring God’s traditional competencies to the worst enemies; and in describing God in terms which are familiar to children (spatial ones and those related to the senses). In the analyzed texts, God also acquires a historical coloring: as the creator of tradition and the performer of great miracles in the past, but also as an entity whose presence is no longer experienced today. Some personal accounts testify to a psychological manner of perceiving God, as when the protagonist transfers to God tasks not fulfilled by his or her earthly father.
