    Opis:
    The aim of this text is to depict the evolution of change in representations of labor and value in a neoliberal society. This evolution is shown through ethnographical studies of small companies in the Upper Silesia as well as the work performed in such companies. The study argues that due to the influence of neoliberał ideology, the social functioning of labor and value has evolved from the class paradigm in the industrial society to a discontinuous structure of the set in the contemporary society. Labor has also changed its measurable representative features. For example, labor is no longer perceived through the lens of worktime or effort, but rather through the lens of value. The text constitutes an analysis of the changes in the labor and value structure and how this structure is perceived in a neoliberal society.

    This article is devoted to an interest in local folk culture, regional heritage, and the past of Cieszyn Silesia, as well as to methods extending back through the 19th century for the documentation, popularization, and protection of the unique cultural knowledge of the region. Attention is primarily given to the activities of the Cieszyn Silesians themselves. The author examines multiple sources, including local periodicals, for elements of local culture (folklore, dialects, traditional outfits, customs). He tries to capture how the phenomena of cultural heritage is defined both regionally and nationally, and also how it can be used as a resource in tourism and in broadly-understood identity policy.

    Opis:
    The aim of this study is to describe the phenomenon of pet cemeteries on an example of the Pet Cemetery in Rzędziany, Podlaskie Voivodeship. The material, which was used for the analysis was obtained by ethnographic field studies carried out in the municipality of Tykocin. The article focuses on the aesthetic patterns, as well as on social reception of the cemetery. The design of the graveyard shows the patterns of commemoration of the dead pets and the strength of human-animal bond. As indicated by the research, the idea of the cemetery is rather extraneous for the community members, but the place is slowly taking root in the local cultural landscape.
    Celem artykułu jest próba opisu zjawiska, jakim są cmentarze dla zwierząt, na przykładzie Cmentarza dla Zwierząt w Rzędzianach, w województwie podlaskim. Materiał, który posłużył do analizy, uzyskany został w wyniku etnograficznych badań terenowych przeprowadzonych w gminie Tykocin. Artykuł skupia się na wzorcach estetycznych, a także na społecznej recepcji cmentarza. Stylistyka nekropolii ukazuje wzorce upamiętniania zmarłych zwierząt oraz siłę relacji człowiek-zwierzę. Jak wskazuje materiał etnograficzny, idea cmentarza jest raczej obca dla mieszkańców gminy, lecz miejsce powoli zakorzenia się w lokalnym krajobrazie kulturowym.

    Autor stawia sobie za cel namysł nad granicznością Smutku tropików wychodząc od pewnego tropu literackiego, a raczej literackiego mitu. Lévi-Strauss za jedną z wymarzonych, ale nienapisanych książek uznaje… Smutek tropików. Przyznaje się bowiem do ogromnej fascynacji Josephem Conradem, którego określa swoim ulubionym pisarzem; antropolog stwierdza nawet, że chciałby napisać jego książki. W efekcie Smutek tropików miał być pierwotnie „conradowską” powieścią; antropolog planował opisać klasyczną, można by powiedzieć, dla angielskiego pisarza intrygę: tubylcy zwodzeni są przez białych dźwiękiem patefonu jako głosem duchów. Z planowanej powieści zostały ostatecznie w książce tylko fragmenty opisujące zachód słońca, a zatem równie klasyczny „conradowski” fragment. Artykuł odpowiada na pytanie, w jakim kierunku prowadzą nas dylematy przez ów zachód słońca przedstawione; pokazuje, że zostały one wyrażone już we wcześniejszych rozdziałach książki francuskiego antropologa i powracać będą w następnych. Realne zagrożenie zapowiadane przez ułudę przedstawienia może przyjmować różne fabularne imiona i formy: mogą to być Indianie Munde, tak dzicy, że aż niepoznawalni; może to być „pogoń za mocą” prowadząca nas ku granicom po to jedynie, byśmy mogli później pochwalić się albumem fotosów; jest to też „entropologia” badająca w istocie procesy dezintegracji kultur i przestrzegająca przed nimi.
    Author’s aim is to contemplate the boundaries of Tristes Tropiques starting with one of the literary trails, or rather literary myths. Lévi-Strauss considers Tristes Tropiques to be his one of the dream but unwritten books. He admits to his fascination with Joseph Conrad, and describes him as his favorite writer; the anthropologist even claims that he would like to write his books. As a result Tristes Tropiques at the beginning was meant to be a “Conrad-like” novel. He planned to describe, let’s say, an intrigue that would be classical for an English writer: the natives are misled by white people using the sounds made by a pathé that resemble those made by ghosts. From the planned novel there are only fragments describing sunsets which are classical “Conrad-like” fragments. The article answers the question in which directions the dilemmas presented by the sun set lead us; shows that they were already expressed in the previous chapters of the book and that they will be coming back in the next chapters. Real threat announced by the deception of presentation may have different fiction names and forms: they can be Munde Indians that are so wild that they aren’t recognizable; it can be a “chase after power” leading us to the boundaries just in order to give us the opportunity to boast with a great album of photographies; it is also “enthropology” examining the processes connected with disintegration of cultures and warning against them.

    For centuries, traditional means of transport have been tightly connected to traditional peasant culture. The work of a farmer has always represented not only the means of adaptation to the natural environment and the acquisition of essential articles of food and raw materials, but also the realization of one’s cultural identity. Over the centuries, it has acquired its typical features and has become distinct within several regional forms. This has been reflected in the traditional means of transport related to the daily annual cycle of a farmer’s work, as well as various non-agricultural opportunities. The aim of the study is to summarize the knowledge within the field of traditional transport in Slovakia during the first half of the 20th century, exemplified through some typical transport aids. It aims to point out their manifold utilization and their gradual adaptation to the changing natural, historical, and social conditions.

    Artykuł jest poświęcony wpływowi teorii Lewisa Henry’ego Morgana na rozwój radzieckiej antropologii. Morgan (niebezpośrednio, lecz znacznie) przyczynił się do stworzenia na terenie ZSRR szkoły antropologii zaangażowanej społecznie. Autorka szkicuje zarys historii antropologii rosyjskiej w okresie komunizmu. Pokazuje, jak ideologie polityczne wpływały na kształtowanie się w ZSRR kategorii badawczych.
    This article looks on how Lewis H. Morgan’s theory influenced the development of Russian anthropological thought. Morgan (indirectly, yet significantly) was one of the reasons for creation of socially active school of anthropology in the U.S.S.R. Author outlines anthropological historicism in Russian communist period. She shows how political ideologies molded research categories in the U.S.S.R.

    Autorka podejmuje próbę analizy i interpretacji opisów zdobnictwa wytworów kultury materialnej Indian zaprezentowanych w monografii Lewisa H. Morgana Liga Ho-de’-no-sau-nee, czyli Irokezów. Na jej podstawie omawia podejście badawcze Morgana do indiańskiego rzemiosła. Celem artykułu jest również ocena materiału etnograficznego dotyczącego wybranych elementów kultury materialnej Irokezów ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem opisów zdobnictwa przedmiotów użytkowych. Analizie poddane zostały także litografie, które przy badaniu ornamentyki są ważnym źródłem etnograficznym.
    In this article author attempts to analyze and interpret depiction of Native American ornamentation as works of material culture presented in The League of the Ho-de-no-sau-nee or Iroquois monograph. On this basis she discusses Morgan’s approach to researching Native American craftsmanship. The purpose of this article is also the evaluation of ethnographic materials regarding selected elements of Iroquois material culture with a particular emphasis on depictions of ornamentation on functional objects. The subject of analysis also constitutes lithographs, which, when studying ornamentation, are a valuable ethnographic source.
