    Work and education plays an important role in shaping the life of very person. Thanks to it a man perfects himself, gains the means to life, and learns how to sacrifice for others. Work makes people realize their value. It unfolds in all dimensions of human life: somatic, emotional, mental, spiritual and moral. For this reason, it is impossible to separate from it the operation and process of education. Education is an essential aid in the discovery of man's possibilities. Responsibility and work for functioning education is always carried out in a social context, and produces some specific environments of formation in the community. Natural educational environment is that of family, school, workplace and other institutions. The impact of the participation, interactions and role models is characteristic for all these groups. The human existence and society depends on the proper work in the field of education.

    In the era of contemporary moral crisis, diverse problems and menaces of today’s world, proper education and in particular the right education of under-standing and feeling truth and freedom plays an essential role. Education of a young person for these values is fulfilled best in a family because a family influences young person’s life to great extent. If education did not introduce these values, it would be harmful not only for the young person but also for the whole community. A strong position of family as the source of truth and responsible freedom should influence and inspire all institutions and people engaged in educational process, which should always be integral: It should comprise a person fully and all his or her fields of life where his or her vocation should be fulfilled.

    Social issues have played an important role in the overall teaching of Pope Benedict XVI. Being aware of the existence of many disturbing threats to social life in all its dimensions, the Pope tried to indicate the direction of the solutions to some growing dilemmas. Trying to remedy evil, he pointed to Christ, who strengthens human hearts to overcome threats, inspired by the action of an evil spirit. In his teachings, the Pope raised awareness that a man following Christ is a hope for solving urgent social problems. His goal was not to consider the problems theoretically, but to shape the moral consciousness of a man and constantly appeal to his conscience. In this way, the teaching of Benedict XVI is an expression of the prophetic mission of the Church; is a call to repair the social life.

    Opis:
    The contemporary world is challenged by poverty. A particular form of serving the poor is a „preferential option for the poor”, also known as the „preferential love for the poor”. This op-tion is developed on the basis of the Church’s social teaching on social solidarity and love which imitate Christ in His attitude toward the poor. The article presents the origin, nature, and ways of realizing the preferential love for the poor in the modern world and in the life of the Church. It starts with explaining the meaning of the word poor (poverty), then draws attention to the various manifestations of poverty in Poland and in the world. It also reflects on the moral responsibility for the current scale of poverty. The analyses embrace the teaching of Pope John Paul II. His words and the example of his life were an urgent appeal to all the people of good will to change the situation of the poor. The topic have been presented against the background of socio-economic sciences.
