- We can observe changes in the volunteering approach, defining of volunteering, and reasons for involving in volunteering in literature, mass media, and social research as well. These changes were important reasons for consideration of the image of volunteering in Poland. The main aim of this text is to make an introductory presentation of the characteristics of new volunteering in Poland and to propose a model of coexistance of new and old (classic) volunteering using their characteristics to explore its boundaries. This model of characteristics of new and classic volunteering is based on two concepts: (1) a frame of goals and (2) social functions of volunteering. In this way we create a new model – volunteering diversity field. This theoretical model was illustrated by episodic volunteers’ statements (opinions) gathered during social research in three Polish cities in 2010 and 2011.
