Parliamentary elections in Italy, which took place on 24 – 25 February 2013 in a very specific political circumstances caused by economical crisis and the internal situation of the Italian State.The fall of the Silvio Berlusconi’s government and replacement it with a technical government did not improve the internal situation of the country, and indeed it has deepened. The withdrawal of support by the Popolo della Libertàto the government of Prime Minister Mario Monti has caused the need for early parliamentary elections. On the political scene appeared new political parties, including Movimento Cinque Stelle (Five Stars Movement), which stood out from the traditionally corrupt politics and proposed a new form of campaign, using such means as the Internet, blogs, and tour around the country. The new group has also set up outgoing Prime Minister Mario Monti called Scelta Civica (Civic Choice) aided by the smaller parties which were in the Parliament and supported of the European Union austerity policies. In addition, in the election participated the Democratic Party, the Northern League and the Popolo della Libertà (People of Freedom). In total, their participation in the elections reported 215 political parties. Elections minimally won leftist Democratic Party with a score of 29.54% (Chamber of Deputies). Surprisingly Popolo dellaLibertà of Silvio Berlusconi received 29.13% (Chamber of Deputies). But the biggest winner was the Five Star Movement, which won 25.55% of the seats, while the biggest loser was the group of Mario Monti, because he received only 10.54% of votes. The result above shows that the creation of the coalition will be very difficult. Political class will have to regain the trust of the society to be able to make the necessary reforms to cure the economical situation of Italy and they should focus on the problems of the country and not the Silvio Berlusconi’s excesses.

In the teaching of Italian L2, learners and teachers encounter difficulties when they are faced with the issue of auxiliary selection in the formation of compound tenses. If we analyse the way grammars for foreigners deal with the problem, we notice—between hypertrophic classifications and lists of exceptions—the lack of a model that is able to explain the phenomenon in a systematic and exhaustive manner. Looking at the source, i.e., the Italian L1 grammars, the syntactic model based on the distinction between transitive and intransitive verbs, both in its traditional and non-accusative version, is not suitable for application in L2 teaching, especially in the case of learners from countries where little room during class time is given to metalinguistic reflection. This paper aims to suggest an alternative semantic model that is capable of representing an orientation tool for learners and finding a balance between theoretical and teaching needs, as well as between learning and acquisition. According to our model—which moves the attention from government to diathesis and starts from the meaning of the auxiliaries as autonomous verbs—avere is used when the effects of the action expressed by the verb are directed towards the external world. Meanwhile, essere is used when such effects are directed towards the subject itself, that is, when the syntactic subject of the sentence represents the semantic object of the event, and it therefore assumes the role of the patient, typical of passive and middle diathesis.
Nell’ambito della didattica dell’italiano L2 è nota la difficoltà in cui si imbattono insegnanti e apprendenti quando si trovano ad affrontare la questione dell’alternanza degli ausiliari nella formazione dei tempi composti. Esaminando il modo in cui il problema è trattato nelle grammatiche per stranieri, si nota, tra ipertrofiche classificazioni e teorie di eccezioni, la mancanza di un modello esplicativo capace di dare ragione in maniera organica ed esaustiva del fenomeno. Volgendo lo sguardo alla fonte, ossia alle grammatiche di italiano L1, il modello sintattico fondato sulla distinzione tra verbi transitivi e intransitivi, sia nella sua variante tradizionale sia in quella inaccusativa, risulta ben poco adatto a trovare applicazione nell’ambito della didattica L2, soprattutto nel caso di apprendenti provenienti da paesi nella cui tradizione scolastica si dà poco spazio alla riflessione metalinguistica. Questo contributo si propone di suggerire un modello alternativo di natura semantica capace di rappresentare uno strumento di orientamento per gli apprendenti e di trovare un punto di equilibrio tra esigenze teoriche e didattiche, così come tra apprendimento e acquisizione. Secondo tale modello, che sposta l’attenzione dalla reggenza alla diatesi e muove dal significato degli ausiliari in quanto verbi autonomi, si usa avere quando gli effetti dell’azione espressa dal verbo sono rivolti verso il mondo esterno, essere quando tali effetti sono rivolti verso il soggetto stesso, ossia quando il soggetto sintattico della frase rappresenta l’oggetto semantico dell’evento, assumendo così il ruolo di paziente proprio della diatesi passiva e media.

The aim of the article is to show the possibility of using the idea of autobiographical narrative in the process of learning a foreign language. The article is composed of two parts, the former presenting the theoretical background of autobiographical narratives in the light of latest glottodidactic literature, the latter presenting the results of the author’s autobiographical narrative research conducted in the year 2012 amongst the students of Classical and Mediterranean Philologies of Wroclaw University (Institute of Classical Studies). The writing of this article was inspired by the published work of Dorota Werbinska22 and her study conducted amongst the students of English Philology as well as the students of non-philological fields of study like managerial studies and elementary education with English. The main objective of the article is to show the possibility of using the autobiographical study in the more effective process of teaching foreign languages.

This article contains the proposal of a theoretical apparatus and criteria which might be adopted to approach the topic of Italian Literature about the Risorgimento. The ‘social value’ of literary works was taken as a basis, that is, their ability to explain the historical process to contemporary readers by depicting large-scale events while narrating the personal stories of fictional characters. A basic research hypothesis here presented is that 1861 constitutes a turning point in Italian Literature, as the optimistic hopes of pre‑Unity patriotic-oriented authors turn into disillusion in the wake of the lack of sound achievements by the new Kingdom in the fields of the social and cultural advancement which should have followed political unification, but it did not.

Three accounts in Polish whose fabula focuses on Paduan and Venetian realia were found by Stanisław Estreicher in the last part of a Latin juridical codex written in the 1520s. They are not translations and have no literary worth; however, they can be interesting from a sociological point of view. In this article, we point out, on the basis of what has already been established by Estreicher, the writing context in which these stories were written in the code. Estreicher hypothesised that the stories, on the basis of their spelling, had been written not by a Pole, but by a foreigner who knew the Polish language by ear. Estreicher also hypothesised, and not wrongly, that in the 1520s, the goldsmiths’ guild, which was at that time chaired by an Italian and an German, had come into possession of that code. A comparison with the spelling of other Polish-language texts written between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, however, shows that many of the graphic solutions used were well attested at the time; amongst these was the singular spelling to mark the posterior nasal vowel. In any case, the writer who wrote those accounts made an effort to maintain some coherence in spelling. Despite such an effort, the general impression is that those short stories were written by a non-Polish speaker, rather than by a foreigner who resided and worked in Krakow. These accounts are certainly traces of the presence, in Krakow and Poland, of the numerous Venetians who had started thriving entrepreneurial activities in the Respublica Polono-Lituana.
I tre racconti di ascendenza padovano-veneziana in lingua polacca trovati da Stanisław Estreicher in un codice giuridico in latino scritto tra la seconda metà del XV secolo e il primo ventennio del secolo successivo non hanno senz’altro alcun valore letterario. Non sono traduzioni di un originale italiano, piuttosto si tratta di riassunti della trama, esposti in modo assai semplice, o piuttosto “primitivo”, come ben giudicava Estreicher. Possono essere di un certo interesse da un punto di vista linguistico, a motivo anzitutto dell’ortografia che sembra tradire, come aveva ipotizzato Estreicher, una mano e un orecchio di un non polacco, che prova a fissare i suoni della lingua polacca arrangiandosi come può con l’alfabeto latino a sua disposizione. In verità, da una disamina più attenta e su materiali che Estreicher non aveva a disposizione, risulta che le soluzioni ortografiche Marcello Piacentini46 adottate sono ben attestate in diverse altre testimonianze scritte della lingua polacca di quel periodo, compresa la resa grafica della vocale nasale posteriore che tanto colpì Estreicher. Chi ha vergato quei testi, peraltro, si è sforzato di attenersi a una certa coerenza e uniformità, pur nelle oscillazioni e incongruenze comuni a tutti i testi manoscritti in lingua polacca, dalle origini fino addentro al XVI secolo. Tuttavia, l’impressione generale è che quei testi siano stati effettivamente vergati da uno straniero che conosceva la lingua polacca “a orecchio”, forse da un italiano, o da un tedesco, quali erano i “seniores” della corporazione degli orafidi Cracovia, che dovettero entrare in possesso del codice almeno agli inizi degli anni Venti del XVI secolo, come ipotizzato a ragione da Estreicher. Possono dunque, quei testi, essere una ulteriore traccia della presenza italiana, veneta in particolare, nella Cracovia del XVI secolo.

Il contributo intende analizzare la lingua di venticinque fascicoli processuali attualmente raccolti nella “serie IX” del Fondo “Dogana delle pecore” dell’Archivio di Stato di Foggia; tali fascicoli riguardano i reati commessi nei piccoli e nei grandi centri cittadini della Capitanata tra il 1770 e il 1806 e sono testimoni dell’attività del plurisecolare tribunale della “Regia Dogana della mena delle pecore” che proprio nell’Archivio di Stato ha avuto sede tra i secoli XV e XIX. Mediante gli esempi fonetici, morfologici e sintattici più rilevanti, la ricognizione è volta a mettere in evidenza in che misura e con quali modalità le varietà orali abbiano influenzato le produzioni degli scrivani della Dogana. Si dimostrerà infatti come tali scritture ufficiali possano essere ascritte a una varietà intermedia di lingua in cui ai tratti tipici del linguaggio burocratico si sovrappongono i fenomeni invece specifici dell’italiano colloquiale, dell’italiano regionale e, in parte, degli idiomi locali.
This paper analyses the language of 25 trial files currently collected in the “series IX” of the “Dogana delle pecore” fonds belonging to the State Archive in Foggia. The files deal with the crimes committed in the small and large towns of the Capitanata area between 1770 and 1806, and they provide evidence of the activity of the centuries-old court of “Regia Dogana della mena delle pecore”, whose office was at the State Archive of Foggia between the 15th and 19th centuries. Through the use of the most relevant phonetic, morphological, and syntactic examples, the analysis highlights how and to what extent oral varieties influenced the writings of the Dogana officers. The paper shows, in fact, that these official writings belong to an intermediate language variety in which the specific characteristics of colloquial Italian, regional Italian, and local idioms overlap with the characteristics of bureaucratic language.

The purpose of the article is to outline the guidelines of the interdisciplinary course in comparative literature, given at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. The subject of the series of lectures is the relation between Italian literature and different branches of art, in context of their cultural references. The strategies of sensibilization of the audience both to the problem of „sister arts” and to the Italian literature and language themselves are explained. In addition, the significance of an interdisciplinary approach to the problem of reception of Italian literature in European culture is mentioned as one of the aims of the lecture. Moreover, main problems of the course, such as themes of reintepretation of Italian classics in visual arts, music, cinema and theatre, are discussed on the background of „classroom dynamics” which characterize the group of students with different knowledge of Italian language and different cultural competences.

On a daily basis, Google’s algorithm plays a decisive role in determining the success or failure of web content. Authors must not only consider linguistic norms and conventions, which have been thoroughly explored in the literature on the subject, but also adhere to Google’s guidelines and the suggestions of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) experts in order to optimise their content for a high position in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). This process is highly complex, as it depends on the continuous updates of the search engine and requires consideration of all the services provided by Google—such as YouTube, Images, and Discover, among others—to meet the diverse needs of its users. Moreover, if necessary, the significant impact of social media, which is in some way connected with search engines, cannot be underestimated. It is evident that the search engine induces certain linguistic usages and trends, and its important role must be acknowledged in providing a clear and impartial view of such phenomena. In the context of web writing, the practice of “hyper-planning” is a fundamental aspect that is largely dependent on Google’s guidelines, as well as authors’ adherence to official guidelines, SEO manuals, and case studies. This approach embodies a markedly distinct attitude from the nonchalant approach often associated with web writing. This work is based on a corpus of 40 online guides and aims to illustrate the influence of the search engine on editorial choices concerning the lexicon (as part of “surface” planning), textuality, syntax, and content structure (as part of a more “deep” planning).
Con il proprio algoritmo Google decreta quotidianamente il successo o l’insuccesso dei contenuti pubblicati nel web. Gli autori devono tener conto tanto della norma linguistica e più in generale della forma, già attentamente studiate dalla letteratura scientifica sull’argomento, quanto delle linee guida di Google e dei suggerimenti degli esperti SEO (Search Engine Optimization) sull’ottimizzazione dei contenuti per il posizionamento vincente nella SERP. Si tratta di un’attività molto complessa che dipende anche dagli aggiornamenti continui del motore di ricerca e che non può escludere né i molti servizi messi a disposizione da Google per soddisfare i bisogni dell’utenza (YouTube, Immagini, Discover ecc.) né, là dove necessario, il peso dei social media. Alcuni usi e alcune tendenze sono quindi evidentemente indotti dal motore di ricerca, il cui il ruolo non può essere affatto sottovalutato per restituire una visione chiara e non parziale dei fenomeni linguistici. L’“iper-pianificazione” è senza dubbio uno degli aspetti fondamentali della scrittura in rete che dipendono in buona parte da Google e soprattutto dall’idea che l’autore ha maturato su questo tipo di scrittura seguendo le linee guida ufficiali, la manualistica SEO, i case study ecc. Essa è frutto di un atteggiamento quasi opposto alla disinvoltura in genere attribuita a tali scritture. Questo lavoro, basato su un corpus di quaranta guide online, mira a illustrare con gli esempi più rilevanti quanto il motore di ricerca abbia influenzato le scelte editoriali sul lessico, che rientrano in una pianificazione “di superficie”, e quelle sulla testualità, sulla sintassi e sulla presentazione dei contenuti, relative una pianificazione più “profonda”.

The paper aims to present contrastive Italian-Macedonian studies, giving a general overview of the development of these studies, with particular attention to the context in which the first studies between these two languages appeared. A corpus of 60 studies published in the last two decades is analysed in the second part of the paper. The classification of the studies based on the topics covered reveals a prevalence of morphosyntactic, semantic, and translation studies. Contrastive studies related to teaching Italian as a foreign language and studies that introduce other topics are also present in the corpus. The final part of the paper reflects upon the future of this type of contrastive study, especially in light of the recent changes related to the interest in studying Italian in Macedonia.
Lo studio mira a presentare il quadro delle ricerche contrastive italiano-macedone. Si presenta una breve panoramica della storia dell’italianistica macedone, con attenzione particolare al contesto in cui nascono i primi studi di ordine contrastivo tra l’italiano e il macedone. Nella parte centrale del contributo viene analizzato il corpus composto da circa sessanta studi pubblicati negli ultimi due decenni. La classificazione degli studi esaminati in base all’argomento trattato rivela la prevalenza di studi che vertono su argomenti morfosintattici, semantici e traduttologici. Negli ultimi anni si attesta inoltre una notevole crescita degli studi didatticamente motivati e ricerche che aprono argomenti nuovi. Nella parte finale dello studio si riflette sulle possibili direzioni future degli studi contrastivi tra queste due lingue tenendo in conto anche i cambiamenti recenti che riguardano l’interesse per l’italiano in Macedonia.

The recent migration flows have changed the linguistic balance in some European countries that are more exposed than others. Italy is among them. The Barcelona Agreement states basic rights for the promotion of all linguistic varieties, but language differences may represent a barrier to human promotion. Unfortunately, immigrant students in Italian schools accumulate delays in their career, even if they are of second generation (born in Italy), and this is due to hindering linguistic competences. Thus the teaching of Italian as a foreign language at school in such a situation of new multilingualism requires the activation of dynamic teaching techniques more oriented to communicative skills than to grammatical rigor.

In the years 1725–1734, there was an Italian opera troupe performing in Wrocław, which was composed almost entirely of well-known Italian artists. At the beginning, its repertoire mimicked those of Italian theatres operating in Venice, Vienna, Florence, Genoa and Prague. Later on, however, the operas staged by Treu and Bioni, the music directors of the Wrocław opera, were also performed by other European theatres. The owner of the theatre in Prague and the originator of the idea to set up a theatre in Wrocław was Count Anton von Sporck, an imperial governor and a friend of Silesian aristocracy. It was on his initiative that a meeting with Antonio Vivaldi was arranged and the performers he recommended were invited to Wrocław. Thanks to the extensive contacts of Wrocław’s impresarios and bandmasters, the city’s virtuoso singers travelled throughout Europe, and outstanding musicians, stage designers and ballet masters were hired. The fame and high standards of Wrocław’s theatre caused its chief conductor, Daniel Gottlieb Treu (Daniele Teofilo Fedele), a pupil of Vivaldi, to write the history of the theatre, which was published in Hamburg (1740) by Johann Mattheson in Grundlage einer Ehren-Phorte. During the nine-year long operation of the theatre, a total of 45 operas were premiered, and their librettos are partly extant in the collection of Wrocław’s University Library (the Silesian-Lusatian Section) and at the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense in Milan. Recently, a previously unknown copy of the opera Il Daphni by Spanish composer Emanuele d’Astorga, currently in the collection of the Sapieha Library, part of the collection of the Wawel Royal Castle Museum, has been discovered. The staging by the theatre in Wrocław of eminent baroque operas, performed by outstanding artists, puts them among the most interesting events in the European opera in the 18th century.

This article illustrates the critical reception of Soava Gallone, born Stanislava Winawer, according to Italian movie magazines between 1915 and 1925. The career of the Polish actress, who settled in Italy in 1911, developed especially during the golden age of the “Diva-Film”, a proper Italian film genre that focuses attention on female roles and on the characters that they play, of Symbolist and Dannunzian derivation. The actress’ approach to her craft was a far cry from the canons of the “divas” of that time, who were characterised by languid gazes and mannered poses. While Lyda Borelli, Francesca Bertini, Pina Menechelli played mainly “femmes fatales”, Soava Gallone preferred more reassuring characters whose seductive implications were often derived from the cruelty of the male characters. In Avatar (Carmine Gallone, 1915), Gallone played a loyal wife; in Senza Colpa! (Carmine Gallone, 1915), she played an innocent woman forced to defend herself from an attempted rape with homicide; in La Chiamavano Cosetta (Eugenio Perego, 1917), she portrayed a woman pushed to false desires for luxury and wrongful wishes, having been ripped from her simple world. Finally, in Il Bacio di Cyrano (1919), Maman Poupée (1919), Amleto e il Suo Clown (1920) and Marcella (1921), she consistently portrayed the same type of character: a gentle woman with angelic features. Even the public image she tried to build for herself was that of a reassuring, smart and cultured woman. The photographs depicting her never showed her in poses as seductive as those of Menechelli or Bertini, and for the majority of the columnists of the Italian press of those years, Soava Gallone was described as “the pale blonde creature”, “the beautiful, simple and spontaneous [one]”, the “gentle and pleasing interpreter”.
Il mio intervento intende illustrare la ricezione di Soava Gallone, nata Stanislawa Winawer, attraverso le riviste cinematografiche italiane tra gli anni 1915-1925. La carriera dell’attrice polacca, trapiantata in Italia nel 1911, si sviluppa soprattutto durante il periodo d’oro del “Diva-Film”, un vero e proprio genere cinematografico italiano che si concentra sulle interpreti femminili e sui personaggi che queste interpretano, di derivazione simbolista e dannunziana. L’attrice si caratterizza per un atteggiamento ben diverso rispetto ai canoni delle “dive” del tempo, tutte occhi languidi e pose manierate. Lyda Borelli, Francesca Bertini, Pina Menechelli interpretano soprattutto ruoli da femme fatale, Soava Gallone, invece, preferisce personaggi più rassicuranti, i cui risvolti seduttivi sono spesso derivati dalla crudeltà dei personaggi maschili. In Avatar (Carmine Gallone, 1915) è una moglie fedelissima, in Senza colpa! (Carmine Gallone, 1915) una creatura innocente costretta a difendersi da una tentata violenza con l’omicidio, in La chiamavano Cosetta (Eugenio Perego, 1917) viene spinta al lusso e a desideri sbagliati perché strappata dal suo mondo ingenuo. E ancora in Il bacio di Cyrano (1919), Maman Poupèe (1919), Amleto e il suo clown (1920), Marcella (1921), il suo è sempre un personaggio delicato e dai tratti angelici. Anche l’immagine pubblica che cerca di costruirsi è quella di una donna rassicurante, intelligente e colta. Le fotografie che la ritraggono non la mostrano mai nelle pose seduttive di una Menechelli o di una Bertini e per la maggior parte degli articolisti della stampa italiana di quegli anni, Soava Gallone è “la tenue bionda creatura”, “la bellissima, semplice e spontanea”, la “gentile e soave interprete”.
