Opis:
The article focuses on linguosynergetic aspects of a concept as a cardinal unit of the conceptual picture of the world. This notion is so far the central and most controversial concept of modern linguistics, characterized by ambiguity of its interpretation, which indicates the diversity of its features and properties. The research deals with the structure of a concept aiming at making up such a universal model which would cater for all aspects and peculiarities of concept in linguistics. We believe that any definition of the concept should be embedded in its structure and correlate with all its features and properties. We state that structuring the concept in the form of a linguosynergetic model highlights not only the characteristics of the “original”, the hierarchy of its components, but the change of modes of its existence due to the fact that linguosynergertics suggests unique language of concept investigation. Guided by the laws of synergetics, we have built an integral scientific linguistic-synergetic model of the concept. Using the categorical-conceptual apparatus of synergetics in linguistics, we explained the mechanisms of self-regulation of the concept as a spontaneous equipment of the structure of a homeostatic hierarchical complex organized open nonlinear system. During the study, we proved the fractality of the concept and came to the conclusion that the fractality of the concept is manifested in the self-similarity of its structural elements: lexical-semantic variants (microfractals) in the process of their functioning can grow indefinitely thematically and become more complicated (or, conversely, collapse), while leaving an organized form. Recursiveness (recurrence) is manifested at the level of content (repeating the topic) and at the level of its reflection (repeating the form of presentation of information). Each microfractal can function autonomously. At the same time, the property of selfsimilarity ensures the fulfillment of the law of unity in diversity and generates a holistic perception of the concept.

The article presents the results of research carried out in the 2016/2017 school year in selected primary schools in an urban environment (Łódź). The aim of the study was to diagnose the ways of understanding the abstract concept of the horizon, in groups of 8- to 9-year-olds and 9- to 10-year-old children. The research was carried out in a venue that provided a natural learning environment (in two second grade classes and two third grade classes). The research adopted the strategy of didactic intervention. The researcher acted as an observer and a participant, and the research material came from participatory observation. The observation covered both the activities of pupils as well as the effects of these activities. The research material obtained in the course of conversations with children and their artistic activity was analyzed. The research results reconstructed the children’s process of understanding the concept of the horizon and revealed possibilities of enriching educational discourse.

The aim of our study was to examine adolescent personality in relation to the adolescent school-related self-concept, in particular to its cognitive aspect according to W.U. Meyer’s conception. In addition to selected personality dimensions, our paper focuses also on gender relations of the adolescent school-related self-concept. The research sample was made up of grammar school and university students (N = 100). The five-factor model of personality NEO-FFI (P.T. Costa, R.R. McCrae) and SCEA-M questionnaire (U. Engler, W.U. Meyer) were used as research tools. The results show a statistically significant relationship between neuroticism and fear of social consequences. There is also a statistically significant relationship between conscientiousness and the self-concept of ability. Statistically significant gender differences in favour of women appear in the dimension of fear of social consequences.

The aim of the cross-sectional study is to map the development of self-concept in adolescents in terms of the Piers-Harris domain approach as well as to capture gender specifics, if any, in the process of its formation. Research involved 290 adolescents, divided in three age categories. The Piers-Harris Children’s and Adolescents´ Self-Concept Scale (Obereignerů et al., 2015) was used as the research tool. Results do not indicate statistically significant differences between groups of adolescents in their overall self-concept by age, except in certain self-concept dimensions. More specific results are provided by the gender analysis of age differences. Over time, change in physical self-concept (PHY) occurs in boys, and changes in behavioural self and anxiety (BEH, FRE) occur in girls. Results of the study can be taken into consideration by all school professionals in their work.

The paper presents the results of quantitative research using the diagnostic poll method, carried out as part of an international project which involved 440 teacher students from the Polish-Belarusian borderland. The research focused on self-assessed level of information management, team work skills, and recognition of one’s own time perspective. The text only refers to one aspect of the competence, i.e., attitude to time. The findings show that the participants function in three temporal dimensions. The majority of the respondents are future-oriented. More than half of them sometimes waste time doing something meaningless. The vast majority of the students act upon the belief that what will happen to them in the future only depends on their effort, but many also declare a fatalistic attitude to life and the belief they have made wrong decisions in the past. In the article, we suggest the need to equip young people with instruments allowing them to create themselves, their lives and the world around them in the context of the foresight concept.

Cognition of the world, construction of knowledge related to our surroundings, and expressing meanings that stem from our life experiences are by no means easy processes. A substantial part of our knowledge remains dormant, but its extraction makes it possible to grasp children’s visions of the world. Even if rarely applied in educational practice, creative activities remain a very effective approach to release children’s conceptualisation of the world. This paper presents research results that demonstrate the efficiency of creative-thinking techniques in extracting children’s visions of the world, as illustrated by the concept of the family. The study, which was conducted as a didactic intervention, was performed in the 2018-2019 school year on a group of younger pupils from a large city. The results reconstructed children’s process of understanding the above-mentioned concept and revealed the possibilities behind creative psychodidactics.

Aggressive behaviour is a menace that has lasting consequences on the victims and the perpetrator, which could result in school avoidance, poor academic performance, dropout, and others. Thus, the study investigated the correlation between self-concept and aggressive behaviour among undergraduate students of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select 720, with 386 male and 334 female participants. An instrument titled “Self-concept and Aggressive Behaviour Questionnaire (SABQ)” was used to collect data for the study. The instrument was subjected to test-retest reliability, and a value of r=77 was obtained. The research questions were answered using mean summation and average, while the hypotheses were tested with Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation and the t-test statistics. The results revealed a low level of self-concept among respondents; males have a lower self-concept than female undergraduate students. There was a high level of aggressive behaviour among respondents; males have more aggressive behaviour than females. There was significant mean difference between male and female respondents in their self-concept and aggressive behaviour. It was recommended that school guidance counsellors design and implement programmes that could enhance self-concept and reduce aggressive behaviour among undergraduate students of universities.

It has been long pointed that Indonesian education system embraces active learning to enhance critical thinking. However, active learning techniques are not yet optimally introduced in Indonesian education settings. Studies have shown case studies combined with the concept map method improving students’ critical thinking. However, there is a lack of evidence related to this method in the Indonesian education system. The presented study examined the effect of a case study combined with the concept map on improving critical thinking skills in Indonesian first-year college students. Three groups attended classes with the same class objectives and contents, consisting of eight weekly meetings. The only difference among the groups was the educational strategy; case study combined with concept map (CSCM), case study alone (CS), and traditional lecture style with no specific active learning techniques (Control). Results indicated that the CSCM method is most effective in improving critical thinking skills. Although CSCM was also most effective on improving critical thinking disposition, differences among groups were not statistically significant.

The professor’s scientific achievements are enormous, so it would be difficult to carry out a full analysis of the works left behind by him. As usual, in such a case, I have limited myself to indicating the main, in my opinion, currents of thoughts, guided by an arbitrary choice.
The study intended to determine if self-concept predicts senior high school students’ English oral proficiency level. The correlational research design was used to describe the relationship of the variables. Forty (40) students were randomly chosen as a sample from the population. A self-concept questionnaire and an oral proficiency interview were administered. The data were analysed using frequency count, computation of mean, Pearson product-moment correlation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that the respondents have an above-average self-concept in the social and family dimensions. Further study showed that only the physical, psychological, academic, and family dimensions predict oral proficiency in the English language. On the contrary, it was statistically determined that the social dimension does not predict oral proficiency. With the study’s findings, it can be concluded that speech development programmes must be holistic to cater not only the communicative abilities of the students but also their affective domains. It could help improve the quality of English language education in the country in terms of oral proficiency development.

The recent growing interest in cognitive linguistics, scientific works, monographs and textbooks written in this field are evidence of this. Language levels and trends in their development, structural approach to languages, language and speech issues, functional approach to language units, etc. the problems have begun to be seriously investigated. One such issue is the study of modern cognitive linguistics and lexical-semantic systems. Language is subject to various influences in the process of development. These effects result in changes in different layers of language, including the lexical layer. This process leads to the obsolescence of word meanings in the lexicon, the emergence of new meanings, the expansion of meaning, the narrowing of meaning, the diversification of meaning, and so on. This leads to the fact that the connection between the lexical and semantic meanings of words is also affected; new lexical-semantic word groups appear. The article is rich in quotes from the works of many scholars.

The presented article was an attempt to explore the differential concept building by teaching students of the elementary level through activity-based instruction. An experiment was conducted in a public sector secondary school on students of grade 6 in teaching of social studies. The major finding of the current showed that concept building was made easier and understandable by teaching students with the use of activity-based instruction as compared to lecture-based instruction in teaching of social studies. It was further explored that the academic achievement of students taught with the use of activity-based instruction was significantly better than that of students taught with the use of lecture-based instruction. Therefore, it was suggested that the effects of activity-based instruction can be investigated by teaching other subjects using this method and teachers may be trained in how to teach their respective subjects with the use of the activity-based teaching method.
