    This article presents the results of research, which set out to clarify the importance and role played by the concept of using A2/AD capabilities in the military strategy of the Russian Federation. Analysis and criticism of the literature were used to solve the research problems. In order to guide the research process, a hypothesis was formulated, assuming that the Russian concept of using A2/AD capabilities is an operationalisation of a broader military strategy for defeating the adversary, as well as an effective deterrence mechanism. The research process established that the Russian concept of using A2/AD capabilities is a theory and operational practice, a broader military strategy of achieving multi-domain superiority over the adversary by conducting strategic offensive operations. Integrating offensive and defensive operational capabilities plays a key role in this concept, which guarantees possession of the strategic initiative and maintenance of dominance in the international security environment and supports the idea of creating Russian spheres of influence. It also prompts NATO states to counter the supremacy of the Russian Federation.

    Following official announcement of oil embargo on Iran by the EU, official positions of Islamic Republic were introduced by political and military authorities based on “blocking Hormuz Strait under certain circumstances”; an issue of great concern in western officials. They warned about their military capabilities in the field of reopening Strait and maintaining security of energy transit lines in the Strait of Hormuz. They questioned the West military methods against Iranian military officials reopening the Strait of Hormuz.This study seeks to answer this question that “what are Iranian military capabilities to block Hormuz Strait?”, “If the Strait is blocked, when western military forces can reopen it?” “Iranian military capabilities which can be called ‘five pillars of military strategy’ based on cruise and ballistic anti-ship missiles, small speedboats, drones, small submarines, nautical mines and standoff missiles supported by air defense and electronic warfare (Jangal), allows Islamic Republic to block Hormuz strait in long term. However, previous to any military conflict with trans-regional forces, the main Iranian weapon is nautical mines to block Hormuz Strait”.
    Po oficjalnym ogłoszeniu przez UE embarga na ropę Iranu, władze polityczne i wojskowe przyjęły oficjalne stanowiska Republiki Islamskiej w oparciu o „blokowanie cieśniny Ormuz w określonych okolicznościach”; kwestia wielkiej troski zachodnich urzędników. Ostrzegali o swoich zdolnościach militarnych w zakresie ponownego otwarcia cieśniny i utrzymania bezpieczeństwa linii tranzytowych energii w Cieśninie Ormuz. Kwestionowali metody wojskowe Zachodu przeciwko irańskim urzędnikom wojskowym, którzy ponownie otworzyli cieśninę Ormuz. W badaniu tym starano się odpowiedzieć na pytanie: „Jakie są irańskie zdolności wojskowe do zablokowania cieśniny Ormuz?”, „Jeśli cieśnina zostanie zablokowana, czy zachodnie siły zbrojne mogą ponownie ją otworzyć?”. „Irańskie zdolności wojskowe, które można nazwać »pięcioma filarami strategii wojskowej«, opartymi na pociskach wycieczkowych i balistycznych przeciw okrętom, małych łodziach motorowych, dronach, małych łodziach podwodnych, minach morskich i pociskach dystansowych wspieranych przez obronę powietrzną i wojnę elektroniczną (Jangal), pozwalają Islamskiej Republice na długoterminowe blokowanie cieśniny Ormuz. Jednak przed jakimkolwiek konfliktem zbrojnym z siłami transregionalnymi główną bronią Iranu są miny morskie blokujące cieśninę Ormuz”.

    Opis:
    Asymmetry of warfare, or more often asymmetric warfare, is an issue often referred to in descriptions of contemporary political and military relations affecting the state. It is even presented as an entity threatened by these hostilities. Meanwhile, these acts are a form of an armed conflict in which opposing sides have different military potentials. One of the potentials is the power of the state. We must wonder then how the state uses it. Is it not an entity who uses it in a way disproportionate to the situation of conflict? The paper argues that a contemporary state is not without sin and it is not just that it is not able to protect its interests from asymmetric threats. Warfare still is, which many forget, the basis for hostilities (war). In the author’s understanding (erroneous perhaps?) asymmetry does not only occur at the level of war, but it also happens in its key dimension – warfare. It has emerged not only through the change in the status of the fighting party, but also through the time of warfare and using the warfare terrain.

    National and international security remains a fascinating area of scientific research. Studies of phenomena and processes in military security suggest that we are witnessing great and intense changes. In their analyses of the modern security environment, both NATO and the EU wish to accommodate the existing conditions. Poland also has been affected by that process. The security policy should be based on the main assumption that Poland is a sovereign security entity, able to define its national interests and strategic objectives autonomously. However, the foundations of our security are assured by membership in the EU and NATO, good relations in the region, a strategic alliance with the USA, and an internal defense mechanism. The needs of the state and the society for national security arise from a dynamic rate of changes in challenges and hazards. The Author intends to combine theory with practice that is implemented in favor of the military security of Poland. First of all, the essence of military security is presented from theoretical and utilitarian viewpoints. The subsequent parts of the paper present research results related to the identification of contemporary challenges and hazards to the military security of Poland. This approach provided an opportunity to outline assumptions of policy and strategy underlying military security in current international security conditions.

    The author of the article has conducted a comprehensive theoretical and legal research of the principles for reforming national security in the domestic jurisprudence. The author has defined the priorities and directions of the reform in the national security sector, and more important – its theoretical and methodological basis. It has been outlined that theory of national security is currently undergoing a stage of active formation and dynamic development. The search for reliable theoretical principles for the organization of the strategic planning system in the national security sector requires its consideration in terms of the application of the most general political and legal methods and tools of the state’s activities, built on the basic principles of complex and systematic nature and aimed at achieving the highest level of the national security. It has been concluded that the formation and implementation of state national security policy in Ukraine is one of the main problems of effective management of a transforming society. Ukrainian political practice indicates that the technology of implementing the doctrines, strategies, concepts and programs of the state policy in the national security sector should objectively integrate all components of political activity of the state and should be based on sound theoretical principles and historical experience. It has been determined that the main purpose of the national security reform is such a quality improvement of legislation and governance in the national security sector, which can provide quality strengthening the protection of key national interests from external and internal, real and potential threats, in accordance with еру current and future needs of society. It may provide the creation or substantial renewal of the activities of existing entities that ensure the national security, a significant change (“reformatting”, “resetting”) of the national security sector in accordance with existing social needs.
