Opis:
The article is devoted to assessing consumers’ behaviors, particularly in terms of stockpiling, after the coronavirus outbreak, as well as their impact on the security of Poles. Firstly, the paper reviews the literature. Then the research methodology was presented, with particular emphasis on the research methodology used, indication of the encountered limitations of the research, as well as characteristics of the respondents. General recommendations on stockpiles are then presented. These recommendations have been juxtaposed with those of the Polish government in this area. Then the author presented the results of the empirical research conducted using the survey technique. The results of the research were divided into four categories, which describe: the frequency of purchases, the quantity of products purchased, purchases of new products, and the reasons for stockpiling. Based on the above elements, a discussion was held, and recommendations were developed as a result.
Artykuł został poświęcony ocenie zachowań konsumentów po wybuchu epidemii koronawirusa, zwłaszcza w zakresie gromadzenia zapasów, a także wpływowi tych zachowań na bezpieczeństwo Polaków. W artykule dokonano przeglądu piśmiennictwa. Następnie przedstawiono metodologię badań, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zastosowanej metodyki badawczej, wskazaniem napotkanych ograniczeń badań, a także charakterystyki respondentów. Kolejno przedstawiono ogólne rekomendacje w zakresie gromadzonych zapasów. Rekomendacje te zostały zestawione z zaleceniami polskiego rządu w tym zakresie. Autorka przedstawiła rezultaty przeprowadzonego badania empirycznego z wykorzystaniem techniki ankiety. Wyniki badań podzielono na cztery kategorie, w których opisano: częstotliwość robionych zakupów, ilość kupowanych produktów, zakupy nowych produktów, a także przyczyny gromadzenia zapasów. W oparciu o powyższe elementy przeprowadzono dyskusję i w jej efekcie wypracowano rekomendacje.

W opracowaniu wskazuje się, że nie ma jednego i jednoznacznego definiowania życia emigracyjnego Polaków. Życie to sytuuje się w szerokiej przestrzeni mityzacji kulturowo-cywilizacyjnej. We współczesnym życiu diasporalnym Polaków z dużą siłą ścierają się tradycyjne wzory życia na obczyźnie oraz współczesne wartości migracyjne. Szczególną nośność w mityzacji polskiego życia diasporalnego zdobywają wartości takie, jak: wolność, niegospodarność, konfliktogenność, przywiązanie do religii oraz tradycyjnych wzorów postaw, zachowań, aspiracji kulturowych. Migracje Polaków definiowane są jako wartość cywilizacyjna, aczkolwiek w rzeczywistości współczesnych przemian globalnych i integracji europejskiej ujawnia się potrzeba wypracowania przez państwo polityki migracyjnej.
The study indicates that there is no single and unequivocal definition of the life of Poles in exile, This life is situated in a wide area of cultural and civilization mythization. In the contemporary diasporal life of Poles, traditional patterns of living abroad and contemporary migration values clash with great force, the mythization of Polish diasporal life is acquired by values such as: freedom, mismanagement, conflictogenicity, attachment to religion and traditional patterns of attitudes, behavior, and cultural aspirations, Migrations of Poles are defined as a civilization value, although in the reality of contemporary global changes and European integration there is a need to develop by the state of migration policy.

The article briefly touches the general issue of Polish people in the United States. This includes the origins of connections between two countries like: first notes about Poles in America and later migrations of our countrymen, polish appearances in U.S. history and contribution for American causes (War of Independence, American civil war). On the other hand author tries to summarize Americans’ reactions to polish independence problems in two World Wars and their role in formation of Poland’s borderlines and its future under the authority of The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. Finally, there are other aspects of mutual connections described in article such as: Polish Diaspora’s activity (in society and politic affairs), U.S. influence on political and economic transformation aft er 1989 in Poland and general character of modern Polish-American relationships.

The article „Migration of Poles to US and it's stages”, shows the problems of the Polish society, that traveled in search for work and bread to North America. Starting from 1815 and for the following one hundred years, America accepted immigrants with open hands. The migration peaked between 1900 and 1919, when close to 10 million people came to this country. Polish immigrants played a big role in creating the history and in emerging of a new country - United States of America. Its over one-hundred-year long history constitutes an object of fascination for scientific, journalistic and cultural communities. Based on the collected bibliographic materials, it can be ascertained that the literature on the history of Polish emigration to the North America is rich enough to be a basis for certain conclusions regarding this issue without the necessity of referring to the full documentation. Based on the gathered literature, the author of the article tries to analyze problems of polish immigrants, introduce it's reasons, stages and directions.

A study of the Euro-barometer performed at the end of January and beginning of February 2009 showed that not even 34% of the surveyed in all the 27 countries of the European Union declares the desire to cast their vote in the approaching election to the Euro-community. 15% of the respondents answered that they would de! nitely not vote in the coming election. The participation in the European Parliament Elections has fallen from election to election. This tendency persists and no signs of improvement of the situation can be seen. In 1994, 56.8% of the entitled to vote participated in the elections in all the member countries. Ten years later, only 45.6% of voters cast their votes. New member countries with low level of interest in European matters have considerably contributed to the fall in the level of legitimisation of the European Parliament.

The article aims to refer to issues related to the understanding of national identity, assuming that the basic reference point for the theoretical analysis is the model of universally recognised European values. Attempting to concretise the concept of national identity and identify determinants affecting its shaping, reference was made to the problem of identifying Poles with European values. Since the problem of national identity was often the object of interest of researchers, especially during the intensification of integration processes in Europe and the impact of such phenomena as globalisation, migration or development of mass culture with a cosmopolitan character, there were observed increased anxieties of various nations encouraging underlining their own “separateness”, and also greater identification with the national community. The author does not treat this phenomenon as disturbing because, according to the latest trends related to the understanding of European identity, it can crystallise as the sum of the identity of European national countries.

This publication is dedicated to the response of Poles living in Russia during WWI to the Act of 5th November declared by Germany and Austria-Hungary. An analysis has been carried out on articles written by journalists and primarily democratic as well as national-democratic politicians in selected Polish newspapers published in Russia during WWI. In this article, the author makes an attempt at presenting articles selected by him from Polish newspapers published in Russia during World War I and the responses and interpretations of the Act of 5th November of the relevant journalists and politicians, especially those with democratic as well as national-democratic affiliations. The author made an informed choice of the texts published in the press as the fundamental source used to discuss the issue in question. The author is certain that to a large extent, these publications reflect the opinions of the Polish political circles as well as the press analyses of the international consequences of the Act issued by the two emperors to the Polish cause.

The article points out that: 1) The Polish-Mongolian and Mongolian-Polish contacts devloped rapidly after the World War II as a consequence of the international cooperation of the socialist states. 2) Science and education were particularly important factors. 3) Poles significantly contributed to the cultural and civilization transformation of Mongolia, including the spheres of construction, industry, and agriculture. 4) Memories of the Polish-Tatar contacts still remain in the collective consciousness of Poles; the negative image of a community which destroys the cultural achievements of conquered peoples has formed. 5) The contemporary knowledge about Mongolia and Polish-Mongolian relations is largely shrouded with a mist of myths and stereotypes.
В статье указываются: 1) С большой силой контакты польско-монгольские и монгольско-польские развивались после Второй мировой войны, в рамках международного сотрудничества социалистических стран. 2) Особо важными звеньями развития являлись наука и просвещение. 3) Поляки возлагали значительный вклад в работу по культурно-цивилизационного реконструкции Монголии, в том числе в сфере строительства, промышленности, сельского хозяйства. 4) В сознании поляков сохраняется память о прошлых татаро-польских отношениях; составился негативный образ сообщества, уничтожающего культурные достижения завоеванных сообществ. 5) Современные знания о Монголии и польско-монгольских отношениях завернуты в мифы и стереотипы.

The article concerns selected problems in the development of the Internet in terms of its impact on the religious attitudes of young Poles. On the base of the research on the use of the Internet and the development of religiosity, their situation is presented in the context of the situation of American teenagers. Americans are one of the largest media markets and have strong and traditional Christian communities. Therefore, certain trends in religious attitudes could have appeared earlier and outlined more strongly there than in other parts of the world. Which of them are reflected in the Polish situation? How is the Internet used by young users in the United States and Poland? Is there anything specific to the Polish situation in shaping religious attitudes via the Internet? The final results of the comparative analysis undertaken are to lead to conclusions showing the characteristics of the Internet that enable it to influence the shaping of the world-view and to forecast directions in which these changes may go. Research on the Internet’s influence on religiosity has a short history, but dynamic changes in both religiosity and technology call for the opening of new research spaces.

The multitude of defining the concept of security is related to the fact that representatives of various fields of science describe and perceive this phenomenon from the point of view of terminology, own knowledge, as well as from the scope of their discipline. For many security is a belief that you are out of the reach of any threat. Based on the Copenhagen school theory, the essence of the objective and subjective understanding of security was emphasized. Against this background, the movement of people was analyzed as a security issue. Poles living in Great Britain are more often in contact with this issue than in their country of origin. The scale of threats is extremely different. For Poles migrating to the UK, the most dangerous threats appear to be in the social sphere. The aim of the article is to analyze the phenomenon of Polish migration to Great Britain after 2004. Additionally, the process of describing security and its transition from the sphere of theory to practice was attempted. Although in the open public space, on city streets, parks and squares, there are personal threats related to crimes, as well as to social threats – attacks and assaults caused by frustrated and aggressive groups or individuals, Poles feel safe. Despite knowing about terrorism or manifestations of social or cultural phobias, Poles migrate to Great Britain. In addition, the article attempts to prove that the technological extension of public space leads to a sense of greater security.

The material presented is the result of years of observations as well as notes taken while teaching several generations of Poles at various kinds of courses. Mostly, however, they were the 1st and the 2nd year students at the Faculty of Italian Studies of Warsaw University. The academic course covers the entire Italian grammar – from the present tense to reported speech. The error analysis was carried out following the chronological criterion: starting from the 1st class in the 1st year, i.e. the easiest topics, to the end of the 2nd year. The review of typical errors begins with spelling (e.g.spelling “gi”) followed by the most common morphological errors (the plural form of nouns and verbs that, in the singular, end in “e”) and ends up with grammatical errors (wrong use of past tenses Passato Prossimo, Imperfetto, problems with pronouns and their use). A large number of examples covers the type of interferential errors as well as those related to hypercorrection. The material presented is intended to sensitize the teacher to certain grammatical issues which, together with a skillful methodological approach, can be implemented so as to avoid the most common errors.

The premise of this paper is to collect in a systematic way the existing research findings related to documenting the participation of Poles and Americans of Polish origin fighting in the ranks of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). The primary objective of the paper is to analyze the historical, military, and political dimensions of this participation. The paper is a study in historical politics, which translates into contemporary realities and concepts of political solutions. The following methods have been used as research tools: the historical, comparative, and statistical methods, as well as an analysis of the content of the press, in particular the Polish-American press. The subject matter required specifically a problem- oriented approach, but also a chronological one, documenting political and social processes directly related to the war, occurring after its end and translating into contemporary events. This paper is a broader exploration of this issue.
Założeniem niniejszego artykułu jest zebranie w sposób systematyczny dotychczasowych ustaleń badawczych związanych z dokumentowaniem działań Polaków i Amerykanów polskiego pochodzenia walczących w szeregach Amerykańskiego Korpusu Ekspedycyjnego (American Expeditionary Forces, AEF). Celem artykułu jest wskazanie przede wszystkim wymiaru historycznego, militarnego i politycznego owego zaangażowania. Artykuł stanowi studium z polityki historycznej, mające przełożenie na współczesne realia i koncepcje politycznych rozwiązań. Za narzędzia badawcze posłużyły m.in. metody: historyczna, porównawcza, statystyczna, analizy zawartości prasy, w tym szczególnie prasy polonijnej. Tematyka wymagała w sposób szczególny podejścia problemowego, ale zarazem chronologicznego, dokumentującego polityczne i społeczne procesy bezpośrednio związane z wojną, zachodzące po jej zakończeniu oraz przekładające się na współczesne wydarzenia. Niniejsza publikacja zakłada szerszą eksplorację tego zagadnienia.

The article deals with the phenomenon of tourism trade migrations in Poland in 70s and 80s of 20th century. The text comprises two parts. In the first section the authors analyze the causes and directions of these specific temporary movements. The article attempts to explain tourists` motivation and presents the scale of these activities which is presented in the context of political and economic situation in Poland. The second consists of five summaries prepared by participants having taken part in the mentioned peculiar “tours”. Specific forms of carrying on business are presented as well as the influence which the tourist trade exerted on their financial situation. In the final section the authors confront the case studies with the data presented in the first part.

“Dziennik Miński” was published between 1917 and 1918 in what is now Belarus. The newspaper was targeted at Poles living there for generations, as well as at refugees who came to the city as a result of enforced migration in the summer of 1915. The newspaper was a source of information about military developments on the fronts of the First World War. What is more, it provided news about politics, social and cultural lives, as well as the refugees and their lives away from home. The newspaper also provides research material concerning the relations between the refugees and the locals of Polish origin. Information was also available on the problems faced by the refugees on a regular basis and the operations of help organizations like Centralny Komitet Obywatelski (Central Civil Committee) or Polskie Towarzystwo Pomocy Ofiarom Wojny (Polish Society for Assisting War Casualties).
