Opis:
One of the ways workers express their displeasure to their respective employers is through industrial action or strike, as it is commonly called. This study investigated the causes and consequences of the Academic Staff Union of Universities strike among public universities in Nigeria. The study employed the descriptive survey method. The population of the study comprised all the 91 public universities in Nigeria; the sample of the study was 400 stakeholders, comprising of lectures, students, parents, transporters, and marketers across all the public universities in the nation, who were selected using multistage sampling procedure of purposive and simple random sampling at their respective public universities. Four hundred respondents were sampled from twelve (12) universities, where 33 respondents were selected from each university. The data collection instrument for this study was a self-designed questionnaire titled “Stakeholders’ Perception of Prevalence, Causes, and Consequences of ASUU Strike among Public Universities in Nigeria: 1999-2022 (SPCCASPUN)”. The questionnaire was on a 5-point Likert scale containing 24 items, validated via experts/professionals with a reliability of 0.87 obtained using a split-half method. At the same time, the data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics of mean rating, percentage, and t-test. Findings of the study revealed, amongst others, that poor budgetary allocation to the education sector, failure of the federal government to honor their long-term agreement, staff bonuses, the politicization of the ASUU strike, revitalization of universities, etcetera are causes of the ASUU strike. As identified by the stakeholders, the consequences include loss of interest in school due to increased social vices, the rush of academic programs, missing out on NYSC and other job opportunities, and loss of sponsorship, among others. It was concluded that both the government and ASUU should come to terms and resolve the issue once and for all to avoid future reoccurrence.

Opis:
The article analyses the scope of regulatory autonomy of public universities in the subject of organization and conduct of elections of members of the electoral college. The dogmatic-legal analysis covers primarily the statutory framework contained in the provisions of the Act on Higher Education and Science and election regulations of selected public universities. The following issues were considered: the forms of regulation of the election of the members of the college of electors, the active and passive electoral right in the election of electors, the distribution of electoral mandates and the composition of the college of electors, the principles of voting. It was found that universities use varied methods for the distribution of electoral seats, with a variable number of seats in proportion to the number of eligible voters being optimal. Restrictions on passive electoral rights that are implemented under regulatory autonomy in some universities were identified.
W artykule podjęto analizę zakresu autonomii regulacyjnej publicznych szkół wyższych w przedmiocie organizacji i przebiegu wyborów członków kolegium elektorów. Analizą dogmatyczno-prawną objęto przede wszystkim ramy ustawowe zawarte w przepisach ustawy Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i nauce oraz regulacji wyborczych wybranych uczelni. Rozważaniami objęto następujące zagadnienia: form regulacji wyborów członków kolegium elektorów, czynnego i biernego prawa wyborczego w wyborach elektorów, podział mandatów elektorskich i skład kolegium elektorów, zasady głosowania.

Opis:
Anhui is one of the leading knowledge-based regions of China, which relies on academic research innovation. This publication aims to present the factors that influence of plagiarism on Chinese students and also explores the common perceptions of students themselves on the idea and act of plagiarism in higher level education environments. The literature provided identifies two major facets of plagiarism, which are both internal and external factors. Qualitative evidence from students demonstrates that both internal and external factors encourage Chinese students to plagiarize during their studies due to the availability of the internet (ICT and Web), lack of teaching expertise, poor academic skills, pressure from family members and peer groups, and financial constraints. It was also found that personal pride played a significant role in catalyzing the decision to plagiarize. On the basis of the said literature and qualitative evidence, the authors provide relevant recommendations about overcoming the concerns of students regarding plagiarism at the university level.

Opis:
In the education industry, it is critical to understand the expectations of students concerning providing the best educational experience. Thus, in higher education institutions (HEI) the adoption of customer-oriented approaches in the management practice is widespread. The customer-oriented approach regarding students as customers has been discussed in academic literature from several perspectives. However, it has been rarely studied from the point of view of comparing public and private universities. The presented study tried to apply a student-customer orientation questionnaire (SCOQ) to investigate differences between student expectations of their educational experience in public vs. private universities. The sample consisted of 238 undergraduate students in Indonesia’s higher education institutions. The study found interesting differences within the student-customer-oriented variables between university types in terms of graduation, curriculum design, communication with service staff, classroom studies, individual studies and course design.
