The research aims to obtain empirical evidence of the reliability, dimensionality, and validity of instruments of higher-order thinking learning environment inventory (HOTLEI). Data was collected using quantitative methods with the Rasch model analysis. The numbers sample is 1361 students from 15 junior high schools in DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. The research concluded that the measurement reliability was at a good level and excellent in extensive trials. The HOTLEI fulfils unidimensionality adequacy based on raw variance explained of 31.6% and 42.3%, and eigenvalues less than 3.0. A mount of 32 valid items is categorised as productive for HOTLEI measurement.

We all learn best when we are in a state of rational and emotional balance, or what is referred to as ‘flow’. We know that body and mind are linked physically, cognitively and emotionally and teachers need to recognise and support the integrated development of all the three areas within their teaching and to seek safe and positive ways of doing so. The emotional environment improves students’ self-awareness, motivation, empathy, recognition of choices and leads to strong and supportive communities. Drama provides a supportive forum for checking out that impact in a distanced way, with the teacher there to mediate the experience, often from within a role. Drama offers a stimulating and rich opportunity to discuss and understand our own emotions, attitudes and beliefs through observing, empathising with, feeling and exploring the emotions of characters both portrayed and interacted with in a role. Drama provides a safe emotional context and a sense of security for learners. In the various fields of research into the factors influencing success in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), trends accentuating the importance of recognising the indicators of success based upon personality and psychology have been ascribed great significance. In the paper, the results of a pilot study to an ongoing research project will be presented. The main aim of the project is to establish the influence of drama on the creation of a positive educational environment, taking into consideration such variable factors as: feeling of security, feeling of identity, sense of belonging, sense of purpose, feeling of competence, and through this an improvement in language competence. The research is a theoretical-empirical investigation of a diagnostic-explanatory-verifi catory nature. Results will be presented from the perspective of both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

The visions of the natural world built by man also shape our relationship with respect to the environment. In the present paper I would like to demonstrate how these holistic ideas, like the Gaia Hypothesis, affect ethical relations with nature. Do they enhance the need to treat nature in accordance with ethics, are they ethically neutral, or do they convince us that man has no ethical obligations to the environment whatsoever? “The Gaia Hypothesis” can be ambivalent in this respect, but in the end it leaves no doubt that, even though other species do what man does, Gaia (biosphere) has a limited tolerance for negative effects of human activity. And although we are not able to annihilate the life on the Earth, we are certainly capable of destroying the conditions necessary for our subsistence.

According to the Polish constitutional tradition, regulations concerning the duties of man and citizen can be found in chapter II of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland devoted to the rights and freedoms of the Polish Constitution, specifically in Articles 82-86 inclusive. The Constitution devotes relatively little space to its duties, and the catalog indicated therein is not extensive. The purpose of articulating obligations in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland is primarily to emphasize the most important ones from the point of view of the state, society and individual. In each country, some constitutional obligations are addressed only to citizens, while others are imposed on all who are subject to the authority of a given country. The Constitution of the Republic of Poland also does so. Indicated in art. 86 the obligation to care for the state of the environment and responsibility for its deterioration is in the group of universal obligations in terms of subject, which are imposed on every person who is within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Poland. This study is an analysis of the concept of environment, care for the state of the environment and the provisions of the constitution on this subject.

This qualitative study examined the roles and duties of the administrators, teachers, stakeholders, and students in a conducive learning environment and how to make the learning environment conducive to the 21st century learners. Administrators, teachers, stakeholders, and learners were the participants of this study for the year 2018. Since the constructivist grounded theory method was used, data were gathered through in-depth interviews and observations. After going through initial coding, focused coding and comparative analysis, three categories emerged on what makes the environment conducive for learning: teaching efficiently, learning collaboratively, and performing responsibilities. Finally, the core category that emerged was committing to corporate social responsibility.

The article presents a multi-dimensional model of a continuum in educational environment as far as teachers’ activity in the postmodern world, inundated with rapidly developing Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is concerned. The conception is designed by means of literature analysis, complemented with the findings of empirical/diagnostic/correlative research of quantitative/ qualitative character, meant to pinpoint the levels of 1160 teachers’ information literacy within the area of the use of ICT tools and methods. The boundary values of the model were determined (i.e., the concept-constructs of “cloud” and “silo”) together with their referents to six layers, including: technology, society, economy, knowledge, culture and philosophy (epistemology, axiology). Also, an attempt was made to calibrate teachers’ performance in their educational environment at the time of technological and cultural change.

The present exploratory study investigated adolescent experiences (N = 84) at a multilingual London college to provide evidence of the psychological factors underlying language-driven effort. It was assessed in a group of students with either English as First Language (EFL) or English as an Additional Language (EAL) status, speaking English to varying degrees, concerning their personal characteristics and environment. The impact of language status and category on such an effort was explored in volunteers of all year groups, using a new theory- and practice-based Language-driven Effort Questionnaire. Differences in language-driven effort among groups with diverse language statuses occurred. EAL students put in more effort, perceiving their environment as motivating and supportive, which was reciprocal, regardless of proficiency. Also, the language category was important for early EAL learners who struggled and were sometimes lonely. The results showed that the sources of language-driven efforts in multilingual settings are both personal and environmental. The need to analyse the individual situation and use flexible methods in the classroom were signalled for the benefit of all pupils who differ in language attributes.

The new paradigm in social research on children, accepting the child as an important social actor, has its methodological and ethical specifics. In doing research on children, child-friendly research techniques are used with an emphasis on children’s rights. The attempt of the researcher to apply a new method in studying children may come into conflict with the authoritarian approach to children in the school environment, where such research most often takes place. We shall examine both the conflicts between school situations and the expectations of the new approach to children in the following material using the experience of our own research on children.

This article is an attempt to place an individual committing suicide into a scientific framework and to put the problem into medical terms. However, it seems that suicide is a social issue, and needs to be addressed as a social pathology. Suicide is the most common cause of death in penal institutions and that is the reason why the main task of the prison staff is prevention by means of learning to recognize individuals and situations that pose such danger and carrying out effective interventions. The article presents the result of research into factors that increase the likelihood of suicide with a verification of a high-risk groups. The research indicates that the incarcerated as a group have a much higher suicide rate in comparison to those who enjoy freedom. Another important point for consideration is the existence of a policy and procedures of identification of prisoners who are prone to commit suicide, with the inclusion of rules of conduct in such cases in a penal institution or the lack of thereof. What is more, the discussion on the issues connected with suicide prevention should be preceded by a study of the profile of the suicides themselves, which would greatly improve the chance of diminishing their numbers. The importance of this article lies in indicating research of personality traits of individuals prone to suicide and of a method of preventing suicide among the incarcerated.

Artykuł prezentuje problem tolerancji nauczycieli akademickich jako normy cywilizacyjnej, regulatora relacji między wszystkimi podmiotami procesu edukacyjnego, co pozwala zachować różnorodność złożonego systemu, jakim jest środowisko międzykulturowe uczelni. Przedstawiono w nim wyniki badań diagnostycznych dotyczących tworzenia różnych elementów kompetencji społeczno-kulturowych nauczycieli i studentów. Ponadto zwrócono uwagę na tzw. algorytm rozwoju tolerancji nauczyciela akademickiego w warunkach nowoczesnego uniwersytetu jako osobowo-ideologicznej podstawy jego działalności i elementu kultury organizacyjnej.
The article deals with the problem of the pedagogical tolerance of university teachers as a civilization norm, the regulator of relations between all subjects of the educational process, which allows maintaining the diversity of a complex system, which is the intercultural space of the university. The results of the diagnostics of the formation of various components of socio-cultural competence of teachers and students are presented. The analysis and correlation links of the obtained results are presented. The algorithm of teacher’s tolerance development in the conditions of a modern university as a personality-ideological basis of his/ her activity, an element of organizational culture is presented.

The problem of environmental protection is perhaps the most important challenge facing man today. On the legal level, this issue is expressed, inter alia, in the discussion on recognition of the right to the environment. This problem is widely discussed and poses a challenge both in the field of international and constitutional law. The work presents the key regulations of both international environmental law and the constitutions of various countries. This allowed for the recognition of the role and significance of the concept of the dignity of the individual, which, underpinning the international system of human rights protection, also plays an important role in environmental regulations. The thesis was formulated that, despite many doubts, the dignity of the individual stands for the idea that combines environmental protection issues with the concept of human rights.
Problem ochrony środowiska jest prawdopodobnie najważniejszym wyzwaniem, przed jakim stoi dziś człowiek. Na płaszczyźnie prawnej zagadnienie to wyraża się m.in. w dyskusji na temat uznania prawa do środowiska. Problem ten jest szeroko dyskutowany i stanowi wyzwanie zarówno w obszarze prawa międzynarodowego, jak i konstytucyjnego. W pracy ukazane zostały kluczowe regulacje zarówno międzynarodowego prawa ochrony środowiska, jak i konstytucji różnych państw. Pozwoliło to dostrzec rolę i znaczenie koncepcji godności jednostki, która leżąc u podstaw międzynarodowego systemu ochrony praw człowieka odgrywa też doniosłą rolę w regulacjach z zakresu ochrony środowiska. Sformułowano tezę, iż pomimo wielu wątpliwości to właśnie godność jednostki jest ideą, która łączy problematykę ochrony środowiska z koncepcją praw człowieka.

The study is related to the pedagogical experiment on the systemic controlled impact on the formation of educational environment in higher educational institutions. The article aims to verify the effectiveness of introducing the pedagogical system of educational environment formation in higher educational institutions on the example of an aviation educational institution.
