    The Polish-Czechoslovak cultural and scientific relations were initiated upon the end of the Second World War. An agreement on the cultural cooperation between Prague and Warsaw was signed in July 1947. Most successful in the field of literature, the cooperation begot translations of literary works. In addition, contacts were established in other areas, such as theatre, cinema, photography, art, music and science. It is noteworthy that the cooperation was largely a matter of propaganda, intended to emphasise the achievements of socialism and the mutual friendship of fraternal socialist countries. Monopolized by the organs of state, it nevertheless formed the basis for establishing a number of personal relations between Polish and Czech and Slovak researchers and artists.

    The text presents the figure of Walery Goetel, who in the first half of the twentieth century and at the beginning of the second half of this century worked hard to protect the geological and natural values of the Tatra Mountains. Through his research activities, the scientist fostered Polish-Czechoslovak cooperation, an easy task particularly in the interwar period. Notwithstanding a difficult geopolitical situation, together with researchers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Walery Goetel attempted to establish a national park for the whole Tatras. It was intended that researchers would carry out their studies within the park, and its natural assets would be enjoyed by both Polish and Czechoslovak tourists. Even after the annexation of Zaolzie by Poland in 1938, Walery Goetel looked for every opportunity to work with Czechoslovak scholars, criticising the policy of his own government towards the southern neighbour. The Polish geologist’s commitment resulted in the establishment of landscape parks at the Polish-Czechoslovakian borderline after the Second World War.

It goes into the details of the events of 1925–1928 and 1934–1935 to explain the reasons, specific situations and consequeces of the absence of the Apostolic Nuncios.

    The study focuses on the importance of the Parliament’s involvement in construction of the Czechoslovak state. With the exception of the German occupation, as the legislature of the Czechoslovak Republic, the National Assembly played an important role in affecting its republican and democratic character. The article discusses two of the most important stages of the formation of the Czechoslovak statehood. First is the Interwar period when the Czechoslovak statehood demonstrated features typical of parliamentary democracy with assumed parliamentary power, followed by the 1960s when the common state of the Czechs and Slovaks developed on a federal level.
