Opis:: Despite some disputable problems we must see the role and great significance of The Decree on Ecumenism. It still must be treated as the beginning of the way towards Christian unity; its assessment must refer not only to what it contributed to, but also to what it may contribute to - the unity of the Church. The ecumenical approach presented in The Decree on Ecumenism is correct and it may become a model to follow; it often corresponds with the image of the relationships between churches. From the perspective of the Orthodox Church it is important that ecumenical issues and the desire for unity are based on the strong foundation of ecclesiology. Even though the Decree often speaks about the “unity of Christians”, the objective of the ecumenical movement is the unity of the Church, which is reached by the rapprochement of Christians. Not the unity of Christians, but the unity of the Church, even if understanding of the nature of this unity is not discusses or, in other words, it is left open. In this silence the ecumenical approach can be seen.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to present the main lines of the primacy theology as presented by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) and its significance in an ecumenical dialogue. Ratzinger, following Catholic ecclesiology, points out that the bishop of Rome carries out the task which was entrusted to Peter by Jesus. Referring to the biblical sources, he researches Peter’s place in all New Testament writings and analyses texts describing his mission. Quoting the arguments from the Bible supporting Christ's origin of Peter’s prerogatives in the area of leading and directing the Church, Ratzinger argues that Peter’s primacy has its Biblical roots and comes from God. The Bavarian theologian points out a personal character of the primacy, thus assessing that the foundation of the Church is both the person and the statement of faith, whose subject is the person. Ratzinger presents the papal office in relation to the Passion of Christ so the Peter’s primacy has a testimonial structure and is related to matryrology through following. The essence of Papacy’s message includes witnessing about Jesus Christ and His salvific message. Thus, the primacy always witnesses about a relationship of the Church with Christ, legitimizes and strengthens it. Stressing a personal character of the primacy, which is expressed in the attitude of being “on the way with Jesus” in the perspective of the Passion and the Cross, we can conclude that authenticity and authority of Christianity takes place not through law, norms and rules but through the miracle of the person of the Church Shepherd, who is responsible for the faith purity and Church unity.

Opis:: Seventy-year history of the Polish Ecumenical Council and its dialogical character is particularly significant for the history of the Ecumenical Church Council and the history of a dialogical attitude of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. The Roman Catholic Church has been involved in the ecumenical dialogue since the constitution Lumen gentium (1964) which was issued during the II Vatican Council, the decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio (1964) and the encyclical Ut unum sint (1995), which was written by the pope John Paul II, who tried to treat an ecumenical dialogue as an important ecumenical factor; it was understood both widely (as an ecumenical dimension of all ecumenical activities) and narrowly (as a doctrinal dialogue), which makes us pay particular attention to local dialogical structures that aim to get rid of still existing discrepancies, both in doctrines and practical forms of cooperation. It is evidenced by the history of mutual relationships between local churches in Poland, which conduct bilateral and multilateral dialogues. “Ecumenical Encyclopedia of Poland (1964–2014)” was issued in 2016 and it stresses the importance of inter-denominational doctrinal dialogues in Poland as an unusual achievement which plays “a key role in the striving for visible unity” of Christians from various traditions, which in the last 70 years have been gathered in the ecumenical structure of the Polish Ecumenical Council in its dialogical relations with the Roman Catholic church and vice versa of the Roman Catholic Church with the Polish Ecumenical Council. The following commissions played a particular role in this process: Mixed Commission consisting of the PEC members and the members from the Ecumenism Commission of the Polish Episcopate and Dialogue Sub-commission. This was the aim of the author of this article, who on the basis of multilateral dialogue related to the sacrament of baptism, attempted to confirm the thesis “the impossible becomes possible”, which is proclaimed by the ecumenists. Consequently, brotherly and sisterly relations can deepen in order to “achieve unity in truth”. For this reason the first part of this article presents the origins and development of the Polish Ecumenical Council; the second part contains ecumenical and dialogic initiatives of the Council and Roman Catholic church, while the third one demonstrates the results of local dialogues in Poland, which were conducted by the above mentioned church subjects; it is based on the incredible example regarding “the sacrament of baptism as a sign of unity” by which the “Declaration of Polish churches on the threshold of the third millennium” confirms bilateral dialogues, which aimed to finalize mutual recognition of the importance of baptism in the above mentioned ecclesial structures.
