Opis:: The human being has both an individual and a social nature, which indicates the necessity of taking into account in the process of the social engagement of the child both care for the child's own development (personalisation) and its orientation towards social life (socialisation), and this in every educational and socially engaging activity. In social engagement there is a justifiable need for both family care and support for the development of the child by the parents and the family, as well as for social (State) care, and the cooperation of these environments should take place without violating the rights of other persons or subjects entitled to upbringing – especially the family.

Opis:: The article examines the issue of domestic violence which is becoming an increasing social problem nowadays. Admittedly, it has always existed. However, at the current time of advanced and still developing processes democratising social life, as well as increasing sensitivity to compliance with the laws of human rights, the study of it seems to be especially substantial. Research concerning people who experience domestic violence, first of all women and seniors, is a significant aspect when considering this complex phenomenon. It is essential to provide a detailed description of the psychosocial factors which predispose to becoming a victim of abuse and then to characterize them considering their susceptibility to the violent acts. Research in this direction is even more valuable as it allows us to identify individuals who are at risk and to prevent their exclusion and permanent victimisation. Domestic violence against women and elderly people requires the implementation of remedial measures. It is a challenge to undertake these interventions and educational measures, especially in terms of the broadly understood pro-family education which prepares people for the responsible fulfilment of family roles. Overcoming stereotypes regarding old age, together with implementing senior policy seem to be an important course of action. It requires full engagement of professionals from various domains, as well as the participation of numerous social environments.
W artykule poruszono kwestię przemocy domowej, która staje się dziś ważnym problemem społecznym. Wprawdzie istniała ona od zawsze, to jednak dziś, w dobie postępujących procesów demokratyzujących życie społeczne, coraz większego wyczulenia na przestrzeganie praw wolnościowych człowieka, prowadzenie nad nią badań wydaje się szczególnie cenne. Istotnym aspektem rozważań nad złożonym zjawiskiem przemocy domowej są badania dotyczące osób, które jej doświadczają, przede wszystkim kobiet i osób starszych. Zasadnicze znaczenie ma tu dokonywanie pogłębionych opisów czynników psychospołecznych predysponujących do stania się ofiarą maltretowania i jej scharakteryzowanie w kontekście podatności na zachowania przemocowe. Przemoc domowa w stosunku do kobiet i osób starszych wymaga podejmowania środków zaradczych. Jest ona wyzwaniem dla podejmowania działań interwencyjnych i edukacyjnych, szczególnie w zakresie szeroko rozumianej edukacji prorodzinnej przygotowującej do odpowiedzialnego pełnienia ról rodzinnych. Ważnym kierunkiem postępowania wydaje się też przełamywanie stereotypów na temat starości oraz podejmowanie polityki senioralnej, co wymaga zarówno pełnego zaangażowania profesjonalistów z wielu dziedzin, jak i udziału wielu środowisk społecznych.

Opis:: The paper discusses transformation of professional identity of individuals who have chosen work activity that is not traditional for their gender. Participants of our research are male social workers in Lithuania. The study on change of professional identity of male social workers presented in this article has revealed that the process of becoming a social worker among males is a sequence of complex decisions and experiences accompanied by critical incidents and changes in their life trajectories and learning careers. Trajectories of educational experience and life events of the research participants have revealed the choice in favour of non-traditional occupation as a defeat of traditional gender division of labour by opposing to “normality” – by undergoing and overcoming the crisis. One of interesting aspects of analysis is the issue of experiences occurring in the course of deviation from standardized, predetermined and preset life journey, i.e. normative biography. Such a complexity is caused by ideal norms of hegemonic masculinity that frame actual social structures and are introduced into the processes of socialization and habituation with the aim to form dominant masculine habitus. Analysis of biographical narratives of male social workers have disclosed learning careers and at the same time the balancing of the males between the normative trajectory of masculine behaviour and striving to find their own “self ”.
