    The article analyzes emotions in literature and their deep connection with the represented space. A good illustration of such interrelations is provided by the memoir of Amos Oz, A Tale about Love and Darkness (2002). The interpretation demonstrates that the relation between the personal experience (including family) and community values may shed light upon other questions such as the difficult past of the state of Israel, growing up into a wise patriotism and establishing real connections with the homeland.

    The article discusses the functions of the map in the journalism and poetry of Michał Książek (Droga 816, Jakuck, Nauka o ptakach, Północny wschód). The author asserts that the map creates multiple tensions between the sign and reality and releases the emotions which accompany the journey, both in space and time. Książek constantly seeks correspondence between the world of the map and reality, which he merges in his travel narratives and observations.

    The article analyzes the ballad Czaty by Adam Mickiewicz, which has so far received little critical attention. If it was discussed, though, the reason was merely its experimental verse form of the anapaest and the work’s stylistic merit. Aiming to re-interpret Mickiewicz’s poem, the author of the article concentrates on the narratorial voice and the connections between the literary characters (the voivode, his young wife, the lover, and the voivode’s Cossack servant—Nauman). She also underscores the driving force behind the unfolding events. The reading reveals that the characters act upon sudden affective reactions which they can hardly control.

    This article is devoted to the Greek journeys of Zbigniew Herbert – a restlesss traveller and the author of such essayistic sketchess as Diariusz grecki [Greek diary], Duszyczka [Little soul] and Akropol [The Acropolis]. The hill of Athens became the arena of the writer’s emotional struggles with himself. The masterpiece, which was admired and studied in the library retreat, evoked the previously suppressed emotions – helplessness, impatience, anger, melancholy, frustration, discouragement. The Acropolis proved to be a mystery impossible for Herbert uncover, and finally, a strange place of his “private psychomachia”.

    The article discusses the impact of place on the traveller’s eye. The author uses Hippolyte Taine’s Venetian episode in Voyage en Italie [Journey to Italy] to illustrate how Venice’s landscape transforms and rejuvenates Taine’s eye, modeling his emotions. It turns out that the traveller sees affectively. This way of seeing is no different from the aesthetic eye which, according to Taine’s theory, “uncovers” what is “conspicuous”. The Italian sketches demonstrate as a result that his “philosophy of art” is permeated by geopoetic thinking about the place agency.

    The article addresses a number of cognitive issues: Do maps serve only as neutral windows that document the world cartographically? How often do maps provide somethingmore, for instance an axiological perspective or a certain emotional filter? In the article the overview of selected thematic maps from Atlas of Poland’s political geography is preceded by a passage dedicated to human emotionality. Later, once the basic information about cartography (cartographic mapping, generalization, etc.) has been outlined, the article characterizes several maps and the methods of cartographic presentation and formulates the essential message of each map. Finally, the most common techniques of map emotionalization are enumerated. The standard graphic-verbal representation of a map shows in a way which is to be objective, conventional, simplifying and generalizing the approximate truth (probability) about space. Emotions present on the map merely imply intentions, because maps, which usually speak objectively about a specific spatial history, retain some cognitive-affective charge. A lesson on cartography says, among other things, that objectivism is sometimes a fertile soil for emotions.

    Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia rolę emocji w różnicowaniu gotowości do zapłaty (WTP) za określone dobro środowiskowe. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badania wpływu wybranych uczuć dotyczących problemu środowiskowego (zanieczyszczenie wód) oraz możliwości rozwiązania tego problemu na gotowość do współfinansowania rozwiązania. Wyniki badań wskazują, iż wyższa gotowość do zapłaty cechuje osoby odczuwające silne, dodatnie emocje powiązane z możliwością poprawy stanu środowiska.
    The paper presents the role of emotion in affecting the willingness to pay (WTP) for certain environmental goods. The author presents the results of research into the impact of selected emotions regarding an environmental problem (water pollution) and the possibilities of solving this problem on the readiness to co-finance the solution.

    Marin Cureau de la Chambre belonged to the group of medicals and philosophers who played a significant role in the development of French philosophy of the seventeenth century. The scholar dealt with the basics of physiognomy and achieved a significant progress in this area. His main work, dedicated to the expression of emotions, provides a comprehensive analysis of human behavior and a classification of feelings. De la Chambre considered himself as a continuator of Aristotle’s works, but his research was in response to the demand of his own era. The author values more highly the realm of emotions and against the tendencies of rationalism, considers human nature almost entirely in their aspects. He considers the body as a medium which helps the soul express all its states of being. Body language is treated as a key to the human psyche. His method is designed to expose the real nature that people are trying to hide behind the conventions and cultural masks. For this purpose de la Chambre deepens his gaze on the context which can be defined as socio-psycho-geographic. The knowledge gained in this way was to be used in human resource management, politics, but also effectively navigating the intricacies of court life. In comparison with Descartes, the medical presents himself as the one who came closer to the knowledge of the “real man”, which, for the other one is clearly lacking. The article presents the main assumptions of de la Chambre’s physiognomy and, where possible, seeks to compare his “Expressions of feelings” with Descartes’ “Passions of the soul”.

    The request for wisdom of heart that can be found in Psalm 90:12 conveys in a certain sense the essence of the spiritual search on which that the authors of the Old Testament Wisdom Books embarked. In the end, they arrived at the conclusion that true knowledge can be attained only as a gift from the Creator. The question that remains, however, is: how man can receive this knowledge? The analysis of Psalm 90 presented below is an attempt to respond to this question. This analysis focuses particularly on the literary structure of Psalm 90 because, by coming to a better understanding of the way in which the sections and respective elements of the poem relate to each other, one arrives at the psalm’s deeper meaning. In this regard, the psychologist Hubert Hermans’ valuation theory is particularly helpful.

    Celem artykułu jest opis relacji pomiędzy przestrzenią wiejską, emocjami i językiem w prozie polskiej w latach 2010-2021. Punktem wyjścia jest pytanie, jakie scenariusze przekraczania kultury zawstydzenia proponuje literatura peryferyjnych przestrzeni. Artykuł koncentruje się na analizie języka powieści i funkcji gwary, dialektów, wulgaryzmów i ekspresywnych gatunków mowy. W ten sposób zwraca uwagę na przepływy z języka wernakularnego, domowego do języka publicznego, a tym samym przeciwdziałanie minoryzacji określonych wspólnot językowych. Literatura i jej język są traktowane jako narzędzie demontażu dystynkcji społecznych.  
    The aim of the article is to describe the relationship between rural space, emotions and language in the Polish prose between 2010 and 2021. The starting point is the question about what scenarios for crossing the culture of shame are proposed by the literature of peripheral spaces. The article concentrates on the language analysis of the novel and the functions of the  gwara (patois), regional dialects, profanity and expressive speech genres. In this way, it draws attention to the flows from the vernacular, home language to the public language, and thus counteracts the marginalization of specific linguistic communities. Literature and its language are treated as a tool for dismantling social distinctions.

    The author shows how emotive means when falling into the sphere of Christian iconology, are transformed into tools for the spiritual change of a person. One such tool is represented by emotive keys. In the prayers of St Kirill Turovsky they are represented by such varieties as “liturgical emotive keys” – fragments of liturgical sequences (direct quotations, individual reminiscences and/or allusions, centons from reminiscences, allusions, paraphrases, etc.) and “emotive toposes” – images specific to the Pax Christiana culture, easily recognizable by its adherents (hyperbolized self-abasement, different types of metaphors).

    Analyzing co-occurrence of nouns naming emotions of the group «Compassion» with other words as registered in the Ukrainian national linguistic corpus, the author provides the description of these emotions in the world picture of Ukrainian: their outer and inner manifestations, intensity, duration, thermal and quantitative characteristics as well as their assessment. Also, she describes the conceptualization of emotions of the group «Compassion» in Ukrainian language consciousness.

    У артыкуле разглядаюцца лiрычныя адступленнi ў паэме Якуба Коласа “Новая зямля”. Непасрэдным прадметам аналiзу стаў iх фiласофскi змест. Прасочваецца iх жыццятворчы пачатак. У iх турбуе паэта найбольш праблематыка жыцця i смерцi. Гэты одум прасякнуты экзiстэнцыйным сумам. Аднак пэўнай кампенсацыяй становяцца жыццёвыя радасцi: любiмая праца, вузкае кола родных i блiзкiх, – у гэтым бачыцца аўтару “Новай зямлi” сапраўднае жыццё. Для самога паэта такiм адхланнем з’яўляецца яшчэ i творчасць. Сцвярджаецца, што асновай паэмы з’яўляюцца якраз лiрычныя адступленнi. Эпiчная лiнiя ўводзiцца праз успамiны i падмацоўвае метафiзiчныя рэфлексii.
    W artykule omówiono liryczne dygresje wypowiadane w pierwszej osobie w poemacie Jakuba Kolasa „Nowa ziemia”. Bezpośrednim przedmiotem analizy jest ich treść filozoficzna, a w szczególności początki powstawania życia. Poetę najbardziej niepokoją zagadnienia dotyczące życia i śmierci. W jego rozważaniach pojawia się smutek egzystencjalny. Taki stan rekompensują życiowe radości, jak ulubiona praca, wąski krąg bliskich i przyjaciół. Na tym polega prawdziwe życie. Poeta spełnia się także w twórczości. Autor artykułu stwierdza, że podstawę poematu stanowią dygresje liryczne. Linia epicka prowadzona przy pomocy wspomnień pogłębia rozważania metafizyczne.
    The article discusses philosophical content of lyrical digressions in the first person in Yakub Kolas’ poem “The New Land” and traces its life-creating beginnings. In lyrical digressions the poet is most concerned about the problems of life and death. This thought is saturated with existential sadness. However, life joys become a certain compensation: favourite work, native land, living among relatives and friends. All these things are seen as a real life. For the poet himself, creativity is also such a joy. The author of the article argues that the so-called lyrical digressions present the basis of the poem. An epic line which reinforces metaphysical reflections has been introduced through memories.
