The article attempts at capturing a linguistic image of the past in A. Asnyk’s texts and presenting symbolic relations between the abstract meaning and the attributes ascribed to it. The author analyzed not only the metaphors containing the lexeme past but also any synonymic notions, periphrases, phrases and terms referring to olden days. On this basis, several models of the past have been distinguished (the past is a living creature, the past is a plant, the past are different kinds of objects and containers, the past is a natural element, the past is nothingness, death and destruction, the past is a memory, the past is a herald of the future) under the condition that the applied divisions are therefore relative due to elusiveness of the described phenomenon. In reality, the past is never perceived, and therefore it cannot be conceptualized univocally.

W artykule poddano analizie wiersze Adama Zagajewskiego wpisujące się w konwencję elegijną. Rekapitulując wcześniejsze ustalenia badaczy dotyczące funkcji elegii w poezji Zagajewskiego, autor przedstawia własne interpretacje wybranych utworów. Dowodzi, że forma elegijna, realizująca się w twórczości Zagajewskiego na wiele różnych sposobów, nie jest wyłącznie wyrazem nostalgii poety za przeszłością. Przywołując minione zdarzenia, wspominając zmarłych znajomych, a także podtrzymując pamięć o o ofiarach Holocaustu, Zagajewski czyni bohatera lirycznego swoich wierszy strażnikiem pamięci o przeszłości, której trzeba umożliwić oddziaływanie na przyszłość.
The article analyses Adam Zagajewski's poems that observe the elegiac convention. While summarizing the existing critical thought on the function of elegia in Zagajewski's poetry, the author presents his own interpretations of selected works. He proves that the elegiac form, realised in Zagajewski's work in many different ways, is not just an expression of the poet's nostalgia for the past. By recalling past events, by remembering his deceased friends, and by maintaining the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, Zagajewski makes the lyrical hero of his poems the guardian of the past. This remembrance must be allowed to influence the future.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to study the chronotope (relation between time and space) and literary time diversity in contemporary Russian literature on the basis of Grigoriy Sluzhitel’s The Savely’s Days. Martin Heidegger’s concept of event (Ereignis) related to the temporal structure of the text is analysed as well. Different configurations of literature time were described. The author examined: 1) real historical time on a social scale; 2) lifetime of a particular person; 3) time of everyday life divided into periods of work and recovery; 4) idyllic time as well as a period of crisis; 5) one’s inner perception of time, including memories and the oneiric time. It was discovered that the borders between different layers of time in The Savely’s Days, Sluzhitel’s first novel, are conditional and permeable. Time in the novel is not only a category of literature, but one of the most significant concepts, as it becomes an object of the main character’s (cat Savely’s) reflection. In addition, the issue of memory and memories as well as literary time-space relations was analysed.

Cel – W artykule poruszono kwestię dziedzictwa przeszłości postrzeganego jako kategoria „starego myślenia” i jego wpływu na dzień dzisiejszy i przyszłość firmy. Opis – Zwrócono uwagę na to, że u progu zmiany własnościowej w Polsce, w 1989 r., kierownicy państwowych przedsiębiorstw dziedzictwo przeszłości firm, którymi kierowali, zmuszeni byli odkreślić zazwyczaj grubą linią. Nie mogli oni w działalności zarządczej odwoływać się do własnych doświadczeń i wykazać się w swojej biografii tym, że są „świadkami pomyłek”. W związku z powyższym, proces zmiany własnościowej i w jego następstwie modernizacji przedsiębiorstw, w tym ich struktury organizacyjnej, sposobu zarządzania i organizacji pracy w wielu przypadkach był opóźniany, a dla części z nich zakończył się ogłoszeniem upadłości. Tylko nieliczne przedsiębiorstwa, które radykalnie zerwały z dziedzictwem przeszłości i po zmianie własnościowej włączyły się do rynku globalnego, odniosły sukces. W sektorze prywatnym, który kształtował się po 1989 r., przedsiębiorcy, z braku tradycji prowadzenia biznesu, mogli liczyć wyłącznie na własną intuicję i działanie oparte na metodzie prób i błędów. Pod koniec dekady lat dziewięćdziesiątych, młodsze pokolenie przedsiębiorców zyskało możliwość analizy błędów popełnionych przez osoby, które działalność gospodarczą rozpoczęły natychmiast po 1989 r. W ten sposób tworzyło się pokolenie przedsiębiorców tzw. „świadków pomyłek”.
Purpose – The paper deals with the subject of the legacy of the past understood as a category of “the old way of thinking” and its impact on the contemporary situation and future standing of the company. Description – It was pointed out that on the doorstep of ownership transformation in Poland, in 1989, managers of the state-owned enterprises usually distanced themselves from the legacy of the past of the companies they managed. They used a “thick line” policy. In their managerial activitie, they could not refer to their own experiences and prove they were “witnesses of mistakes”. As a result of the above, the process of ownership transformation and, the following modernization of enterprises, including their organizational structure, method of management and work organization, were in many cases delayed, and in many cases ended in the declaration of bankruptcy. Only some enterprises which firmly broke up with the legacy of the past and after ownership transformation joined the global market, managed to succeed. In a private sector that formed after 1989, entrepreneurs, due to the lack of tradition of carrying out business, could only count on their own intuition and act basing on the trial-and-error method. At the end of 1990s a younger generation of entrepreneurs gained a possibility to analyze mistakes committed by people who had started their economic activity just after 1989. Such was the way of formation of a generation of entrepreneurs, so-called: “witnesses of mistakes”.

Мiж тым Уладзмiр Караткевiч быў адным з найвыдатнейшых пiсьменнiцкiх талентаў у гiсторыi свайго народа. Пiсьменнiк з шырокiм спектрам iнтарэсаў, найбольш вядомы як аўтар гiстарычных аповесцей, быў таксама дасканалыi драматургам, сцэнарыстам, лiтаратурным крытыкам, гiсторыкам, перакладчыкам, а таксама надзвычай таленавiтым паэтам. Па многiх гiстарычных i палiтычных прычынах са спазненнем на сто гадоў стаў Караткевiч для беларускай лiтаратуры тым, кiм былi i ёсць для палякаў Генрык Сянкевiч, Iгныцй крашэўскi, для чэхаў – Алоiз Iрасек цi для англiчан яшчэ ранейшы Вальтэр Скот. Так як Сянкевiч, Караткевiч стварыў i разбудаваў “да ўмацавання сэрцаў” беларускую гiстарычную повесць. Для лiтаратурнай дзейнасцi Караткевiча характэрны пошук непарыўных сувязей памiж мiнулым i сучаснасцю, што ўвiдавочылася ў паасобных творах глыбокiм усведамленнем гiстарычных працэсаў iстварэння на iх падставе мастацка-гiстарычнай хронiкi жыцця i лёсаў беларусаў. Сваёй паэзiяй i прозай Караткевiч iмкнуўся абудзiць нацыянальную i гiстарычную самасвядомасць беларусаў, паказаць крынiцы сваёй уласнай нацыянальнай тоеснасцi i ўзмацнiць у сваiх суайчыннiках пачуццё гонару за тое, што яны з’яўляюцца беларусамi.
The article aims to present life and work of an outstanding Belarusian writer – Uladzimir Karatkievich (1930–1984). Although the writer is one of the most prominent creators of the Belarusian literature, he is not widely known in Poland. Moreover, only a few of his works have been translated into Polish. Uladzimir Karatkievich was one of the most talented writers in the history of his nation. First of all, he is known as an author of historical novels. He was also an excellent playwright, a literary critic, a historian, a translator and a talented poet. Due to many historical and political reasons he has become for Belarusian literature like Henryk Sienkiewicz or Ignacy Kraszewski for the Poles, Alois Jirasek for the Czechs or Walter Scott for the English. Karatkievich, like Sienkiewicz in the Polish literature, created and developed historical novel “to cheer up the hearts”. What is characteristic of his writing? It seeks inseparable bonds between the past and the present which can be found in deep understanding of historical processes and creating the artistic and historical chronicle of the Belarusians’ life and fate. Karatkievich tried to awaken historical and national consciousness of the Belarusians, he indicated the sources of their own national identity and made them proud to be Belarusian.

Opis:
The main task of the text is a comparative presentation of the legal methods for the petrification of the historical narrations after the collapse of communism in central and eastern Europe. The purpose is mainly to show how M. Halbwachs concepts of collec- tive memories creation are in use in the preambles to Latvia and Hungarian constitu- tions. These two acts are presented in comparison to constitutional acts from some other post–communist states from the region such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania. Another important problem is related to the question of why in fact states are deciding to use such a tool inside their constitutions.
