Opis:: The article discusses the problems concerning vocabulary introduced in some popular contemporary course books for Polish language teaching.What can be sometimes found in them are words and expressions not suiting the language level of the course, some of them rare, specialized, obsolete, marked in a characteristic way, regional. It also happens that words are used improperly in the context or they are consolidated in unnatural linguistic contexts. Also some problems with proper names appear – they sometimes have a confusing form or, with no good reason, they are very difficult to pronounce. The situation is partly the result of the authors’ efforts made to simplify grammar or introduce humorous atmosphere during the lesson. In the conclusion the author suggests paying more attention to the choice of vocabulary units to be taught.

Opis:: The amendment to the Polish Language Act in 2015 has resulted in significant changes in the system of the state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language. One of the changes is a revised format of the certificate examination at C2 level. The author begins by briefly presenting the recent revisions to the test. The Polish examination is then compared with its English equivalent: C2 Proficiency, a renowned British test which has undergone numerous changes since its first ad-ministration in 1913. The comparative analysis is focused on the struc-ture of both examinations and their parts, task types that are used and skills that are tested. Through showing similarities and differences between the analyzed language proficiency tests the author reflects on practical implications of various choices made by experts who are responsible for test design and development.

Opis:: Teaching business Polish to foreign businessmen in Poland has its specificity: lessons often take place in learners’ offices on a one-to-one basis or in very small groups. Learners are usually very demanding and autonomous. They want to have control over their language learning process but are unwilling to take any tests. Therefore, process of evaluation has to be organized in a less conventional manner. The article reflects on the needs of such learners and describes the most effective ways which, according to its author, measure their skills: formative assessment and task-based assessment.

Opis:: The article contributes to the discussion regarding the state certificate Since the new legislation in 2015 was introduced, the number of for-eign sessions of the state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language has significantly decreased. The article aims to show the impact of the amended legal provisions on the availability of the certificate examinations outside of Poland and, consequently on the level of knowledge about them among potential candidates in Italy. The article is based on the results of the survey conducted by the au-thors among the students of Polish studies in Italy.

Opis:: The placement test is a special examination used to test students’ language proficiency so that they may be placed in an appropriate course. It should be relatively short, yet comprehensive. The test used in the Jagiellonian University Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World has been based on the standards set in two documents, namely the Common European Framework of Reference (2001) and the Polish Language Proficiency Standards (2003). It consists of 2 parts – written and oral. In the written part it concentrates on assessing students’ knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, as well as reading and writing abilities. The oral part assesses students’ productive and interactive skills. The article presents all the development stages of the placement test and its subsequent modifications. It also discusses the choice of testing tasks and the means of evaluating students’ production.

Opis:: Efficient teaching of speaking and writing in a foreign language is always a challenge. In particular, the development of productive skills requires the employment of a variety of methods designed to provide necessary encouragement. Teaching Polish in a country as distant from Poland as Japan seems to be even more demanding than might be the case with more popular languages, such as English, because students have very limited opportunities to use Polish in their daily lives. My solution involves the use of pictures, employed in the course of the class as cues stimulating students imagination and thus generating a context conducive to real communication.

Opis:: The main aim of the article is to direct attention towards the specific educational needs of elderly people who are learning a foreign language. One of the main points of this paper is to describe seniors and present biological, psychological, cultural and social factors that affect their SLA (Second Language Acquisition) process. Course books used for the process of learning Polish as a foreign language have also been analyzed on the basis of their usefulness for seniors. The analysis of the course books was conducted on the basis of specially prepared criteria for the evaluation of language teaching materials.

Opis:: For the past several years we have been observing a substantial growth of interest in studies in Poland among foreign students, partic-ular those from the East. The required level of language proficiency for Polish universities is B1 which is not difficult to achieve in a year. It is, however, by no means sufficient to participate in university classes, to follow academic discourse, to write papers or prepare for exams. This article presents the results of a research study conducted among academic lecturers and Polish language instructors teaching preparatory classes on the lacks and needs of foreign students. It also presents core demands regarding teaching Polish as a foreign language for academic purposes.

Opis:: The article concentrates on achievements of the younger generation of emigrants in the mother tongue based on an analysis of General Certifi¬cate of Secondary Education (Polish). At its beginning, the author lays out some of the issues concerned with bilingual glottodidactics and Polish education abroad (the latter is presented in an exolingual context; here: based on England). In the further course, a reference is made to English educational system with a particular stress put on Key Stage 4 examinations, that is General Certificate of Secondary Educa-tion (here: in Polish). The data gathered come from one of the AQA centres in which the author of the present text worked.

Opis:: One of the main aims of uniting Europe is to create a common European culture of remembrance. To achieve this, different transnational projects are carried out, especially in historical sciences, but increasingly also in other disciplines such as pedagogy. This paper shows a new solution in teaching German as a foreign language at an academic level using the didactics of culture. The lesson unit discussed in this paper was developed within a bilateral project New models of didactics of culture. Polish-German realms of memory during a workshop which had been conducted by students of four universities (two Polish and two German), in order to design lessons curriculums. This article discusses how history and foreign language can be taught within an intercultural lesson unit which focuses on area studies.
