The aim of the article is to introduce the author’s category of joint biographical involvement episodes (EWZB) into the space of educational discourse, especially in relation to adult education (including academic teacher training). The proposed EWZB category derives from the work of Rudolf Schaffer on episodes of joint engagement and is enriched with knowledge on biographical learning. The author notes that one of the volitional goals of adult learning is the desire to acquire wisdom, understood as an aspect of personality development in adulthood, and the basis for building it is learning based on the co-experience of both one’s own and Others’ biographies.

The Book of Wisdom, which was written on the eve of the New Testament, enriches significantly the Old Testament teaching about God’s payment. In the very heart of the eschatological part (chapters 3-4) it presents three situations, which at first glance seem to question God’s justice (the suffering of the just one, lack of offspring, premature death). The analized text (1-9,5, 15-16) is the most important expression of the awareness of afterlife gained by the Israel in the late period of the Old Testament and the most powerful evidence of that belief.

Baltasar Gracián’s views revolved around the motivation of moral axiology in reference to the cognitive knowledge of reason and the practical knowledge of reason, by which individuals achieve effective results. He believed that knowledge of motivation, strategies and tactics for successful goal achievement should be imparted in education, while wisdom is expressed by effective long-term and permanent results of reasonable actions. Behavioral strategies motivated by moral axiology result in increased human spiritual and material well-being in society, and education in this area contributes to knowledge spread and moral progress. Temporal wisdom is both life wisdom and worldly wisdom; the former belongs to the human nature of life and is a driving force behind the creation of a better human world.

Opis:
Prov 1:8-9 is an admonition to listen to and receive as one’s own the instruction that follows from parental experience. Its value is compared to a magnificent wreath on one’s head and to jewellery which lend splendour and glory to their owner. Wisdom, similarly to material goods, is worth desiring. However, the author encourages his audience to direct one’s desire for possessions toward wisdom which will never deteriorate or lose its lustre.

In the article the Author analyzes different ways of understanding and practicing the philosophy of education. This analysis leads to the conclusion that methodological status of philosophy of education is indefinite, and this is an important issue that should be considered. The Author proposes to distinguish the pedagogical philosophy of education from the philosophy of education as a philosophy in the strict sense. The purpose of pedagogical reflection is to improve the process of education. The goal of philosophy is to understand the nature and essence of education, therefore it is a purely theoretical purpose. The Author refers to the classical approach of philosophy being love of wisdom, according to which the philosophy is a disinterested contemplation of truth.

Truth has always been a controversial subject in Aristotelian scholarship. In most cases, including some well-known passages in the Categories, De Interpretatione and Metaphysics, Aristotle uses the predicate ‘true’ for assertions, although exceptions are many and impossible to ignore. One of the most complicated cases is the concept of practical truth in the sixth book of Nicomachean Ethics: its entanglement with action and desire raises doubts about the possibility of its inclusion to the propositional model of truth. Nevertheless, in one of the most extensive studies on the subject, C. Olfert has tried to show that this is not only possible but also necessary. In this paper, we explain why trying to fit practical truth into the propositional model comes with insurmountable problems. In order to overcome these problems, we focus on multiple aspects of practical syllogism and correlate them with Aristotle’s account of desire, happiness and the good. Identifying the role of such concepts in the specific steps of practical reasoning, we reach the conclusion that practical truth is best explained as the culmination of a well-executed practical syllogism taken as a whole, which ultimately explains why this type of syllogism demands a different approach and a different kind of truth than the theoretical one.

Although Bertrand Russell is probably most famous for his “logical atomism,” it is his ethical thought that this article will attempt to contrast with the ethics of the founder of the ancient atomism: Democritus of Abdera. Russell has himself suggested certain affinity here. More concerned with practice than theory, both philosophers advocate a certain teleological and eudemonistic morality; furthermore, they both adopt the same approaches to various related topics. Yet, what had only been outlined by Democritus was extensively developed by Russell. Hence, it is worth examining whether there is any deeper common ground between the two: can Russell’s clarity throw some light on Democritus’ fragments?

Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie i filozoficzne zbadanie głównych idei wyłaniającego się, stosunkowo nowego mistycznego wymiaru chrześcijaństwa, który nazywany jest chrześcijaństwem sapiencjalnym. Artykuł ten opiera się głównie na pracy Bruno Barnharta (1931-2015), kamedulskiego mnicha, mistyka i teologa, który spędził większość swojego życia monastycznego na rozwijaniu i systematyzowaniu idei chrześcijaństwa sapiencjalnego. To specyficzne podejście do całej tradycji chrześcijańskiej koncentruje się na Rzeczywistości Jednoczącej i jej ekspresji w świecie, zwłaszcza w inkarnacyjnym wydarzeniu Chrystusa, dążąc do przebóstwienia całej rzeczywistości. Kładzie również duży nacisk na pozycję i rolę człowieka w tym procesie przebóstwienia. W artykule analiza filozoficzna koncentruje się na trzech aspektach tego mistycznego ruchu: (1) epistemologii, w której mądrość jako sposób poznania ma swoje wyjątkowe miejsce w całym procesie zdobywania wiedzy o Rzeczywistości Jednoczącej; (2) antropologii, w której przyglądamy się źródłu godności osoby ludzkiej w perspektywie sapiencjalnej: (3) metafizyce, w której badamy pojęcie Rzeczywistości Jednoczącej i jej cechy. Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, celem tego artykułu jest pokazanie wagi i znaczenia chrześcijaństwa sapiencjalnego w naszym współczesnym świecie; zachęcenie filozofów zainteresowanych religią i mistycyzmem do zbadania i nawiązania dialogu z tym wyjątkowym sposobem postrzegania tradycji chrześcijańskiej.
The primary objective of this article is to give an overview and to philosophically explore the main ideas of an emerging, relatively new mystical dimension within Christianity which is called the sapiential Christianity. This paper is based mainly on the work of Bruno Barnhart (1931-2015), Camaldoli monk, mystic and theologian who spent most of his monastic life developing and systematising ideas of sapiential Christianity. This specific approach to the whole Christian tradition focuses on the Unitive Reality and its expression in the world, especially in the incarnational Christ-event, aiming towards divinisation of the whole reality. It also places a great emphasis on the position and role of human being in this process of divinisation. In the article, the philosophical analysis concentrates on the three aspects of this mystical movement: (1) epistemology, where wisdom as the way of knowing has its unique place in the whole process of gaining knowledge about Unitive Reality; (2) anthropology, where we look at the source of dignity of human person in the sapiential perspective: (3) metaphysics, where we explore the notion of the Unitive Reality and its characteristics. Overall, the purpose of this article is to show the significance and relevance of sapiential Christianity in our modern world; to encourage philosophers that are interested in religion and mysticism to explore and enter into a dialogue with this unique way of seeing the Christian tradition.

In the contemporary and dynamic educational reality, also known as socialization, a young person (or is it just a young one [sic!]) in a process of gaining experience, instead of understanding the environment better with time, gets lost, has problems with self-determination, struggles between the important and the irrelevant, the desired and the redundant, good and harmful. The wisdom and educational experience, the educational process and recognized educational influences should become helpful. The pragmatism of the theory of cognition often allows for conclusions and reflections on every process of scientific cognition. In the area of axiology, it may constitute a “pillar of pedagogical initiation”. In view of the holistic format of the majority of educational phenomena, the subject as a balanced dialogue and consistent in the autonomy of leadership (especially educational!) fits perfectly well the latest theories and trends of modern pedagogical, psychological and social knowledge as well as theories of inter-/intrapersonal management. The above indications are the basis for a wise leadership in education and an upbringing in leadership. Knowledge of leadership issues, understood as the process of socialization, may wisely support and strengthen educational influences. Otherwise, by unwise influences, from the pedagogical point of view, something can be irretrievably lost and wasted. To understand the phenomenon of leadership, you must first thoroughly analyze the issue of leadership in groups, trying to show relationships with other people in the process. This is vital due to the frequent confusion of the concepts of leadership and management, or leadership and command. Leadership is often recognized via its chief attribute by e.g. persistence of community, debates, personalization of tasks and actions, bonds of belonging, dynamisms of interpersonal relations (atmosphere and culture in task situations) and roles as an axiom of task decision-making.

The Word of Wisdom is a relatively small-sized relic of medieval eastern Slavic literature from what is certainly the oldest period of its existence, i.e. from before the Mongol invasion of Rus. It is attributed usually to Cyril of Turov (who died before 1182), one of the greatest writers of the Old Russian period. The oldest manuscript containing the full text of the Word of Wisdom is the parchment code from the thirteenth century, which is currently stored in the collections of the National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg. A small fragment of the Word of Wisdom was also written on a birch bark document, found in its entirety in Torzhok near Novgorod the Great. This relic is usually dated to the years 1170-1190.

Podstawowym, intelektualnym celem badań akademickich jest obecnie udoskonalanie wiedzy. Znaczna część struktury, jak i cały charakter badania akademickiego na uniwersytetach na całym świecie są kształtowane przez przyjęcie niniejszego jako podstawowego celu intelektualnego. Jednak z punktu widzenia wkładu do życia człowieka tego typu badanie akademickie jest niebezpiecznie irracjonalne. Naruszone zostają trzy z czterech najbardziej podstawowych zasad racjonalnego rozwiązywania problemów. Potrzebna jest rewolucja celów i metod badania akademickiego, aby celem podstawowym było wspieranie mądrości jako zdolności do realizacji tego, co stanowi wartość dla siebie i innych, w tym wiedzy i technologicznego know-how, ale i wiele poza tym. Ta pilnie potrzebna rewolucja miałaby wpływ na każdy dział i aspekt przedsięwzięcia akademickiego.
At present the basie intellectual aim of academic inquiry is to improve knowledge. Much of the structure, the whole character, of academic inquiry, in universities all over the world, is shaped by the adoption of this as the basie intellectual aim. But, judged from the standpoint of making a contribution to human welfare, academic inquiry of this type is damagingly irrational. Three of four of the most elementary rules of rational problem solving are violated. A revolution in the aims and methods of academic inquiry is needed so that the basie aim becomes to promote wisdom, conceived of as the capacity to realize what is of value, for oneself and others, thus including knowledge and technological know-how, but much else besides. This urgently needed revolution would affect every branch and aspect of the academic enterprise.
