The paper deals with the role of multilingualism in selected text types. The reflections on forms of multilingualism and occasions for using multiple languages in a text lead to the creation of a typologythat distinguishes between obligatory and optional use of multiple languages in text types. The obligatory multilingualism is constitutive in dictionaries, textbooks and teaching materials. Optional multilingualism, which was examined using the example of German advertising texts and grave inscriptions from Germany and Denmark, reinforces the main function of the text.

This study aims to investigate crop selection and spatial patterns of agricultural fields in a drought-affected region in Isfahan Province, central Iran. Based on field surveys portraying growth stages of the main crops including wheat, alfalfa, vegetables and fruit trees, three Landsat 8 operational land imager (OLI) images were acquired on March 15 (L1), June 27 (L2) and October 1 (L3), 2015. After performing radiometric and atmospheric corrections, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) maps of the images were produced and introduced to the Multi-Resolution Segmentation algorithm to delineate agricultural fields. An NDVI-based decision algorithm was then developed to identify crops devoted to each field. Finally, a set of landscape metrics including Number of Patches (NP), mean patch size (MPS), mean shape index (MSI), perimeter-to-area ratio (PARA) and Euclidian Nearest Neighborhood Distance (ENN) was utilized to evaluate their respective spatial formation. The results showed that nearly 46% of fields are devoted to wheat indicating that the landscape has been dramatically shifted towards wheat monoculture farming. Moreover, the farmers’ inclination to grow crops in large fields (approximate area of 1 ha) with more regular geometric shapes are considered as an effective way of optimising water use efficiency in areas experiencing significant water shortage.

“Downtoning” can be understood as the nuancing of an utterance in view of the interlocutor’s reaction. Typical downtoners in German include the so-called modal particles, although downtoning can also be expressed in other ways, including at the non-verbal level by means of gestures. Given their meanings, downtoning elements are typically restricted to particular illocution types. The goal of this paper is to investigate how this link between downtoning and illocution type is reflected in the use of these downtoners. This is done for both verbal and gestural downtoners in German and for downtoning patterns in German Sign Language (DGS). The question is addressed from two points of view, looking first at the topology of the downtoners in German and DGS, then at the kind of gestural markers co-occurring with verbal downtoners in German.

The article presents the results of archaeological and architectural investigations that have been carried out within a former printing house at the Lubrańskiʼs Academy in Ostrów Tumski in Poznań, together with a collection of lead pieces of type collected between 2002 and 2014. Archaeological evidence serves as a pretext for revising the history of printing houses operating in the area since the turn of the seventeenth century towards the end of the eighteenth century.

The study’s relevance is due to the association between mental disorders and environmental instability. A frequent consequence of stress is post-traumatic disorder, which can significantly affect the personality and disrupt adaptation, causing subjective suffering. The purpose of the article is to update information on the structure and dynamics of socio-psychological features of affective personality disorders in the crisis period of life in the Ukrainian population associated with the war. The article uses the following methods: clinical and psychological, psychometric, and statistical (in particular, descriptive statistics) methods. The results of the study demonstrate various courses of bipolar affective disorders of the continuum type with the transformation of their dynamics. The study showed a significant increase in the negative symptoms of affective disorders under the influence of stress. The researchers demonstrated the severity of both depressive and manic phases of affective disorders under the impact of stress factors. The results indicate an exacerbation of the course of affective disorders in people under difficult life circumstances. The findings have theoretical significance and are promising for further research on typologisation, classification and identifying clinical and biological manifestations to represent the specifics of pathogenesis.

The article presents model analysis of non-standardized names of caves and chasms of the Slovenské rudohorie mountains which follows the model analysis of anoikonyms by Jana Pleskalová, as well as the work devoted to modelling of Slovak hydronymy. The model analysis pointed out the dominance of the relational model C which expresses “properties, symptoms (and circumstances)” and the relational model A which is associated with the expression of “position, the location of underground object in the field”. The most common structural model in the given relational models is the two-member ADd+S, consisting of a derivative adjective and a noun such as Jelšavská jaskyňa, Gajdova štôlňa. Relational models (VM) referring to possessivity (VM D), especially to the immediate expression of the type of object (VM B), only have a marginal position in the proposed model analysis.

Compiling special dictionaries in Ukraine and Russia has its own history, national specifics, significant achievements and groundworks. Terminological dictionaries play an important role – they preserve and transmit the scientific terminology fund from generation to generation, which necessitates a critical examination of each specific publication. Terminographic criticism is an integral, interdisciplinary direction which is formed simultaneously on the basis of scientific criticism and scientific communication combining their features. As a result of the study, it was established that modern Ukrainian and Russian critics in their reviews adhere to the same principles to examine terminological dictionaries: the intention to comprehensively analyse, first of all, definition and translation publications as well as reference dictionaries, regarding the representation of their mega-, macro- and microstructure parameters; determining the national and linguacultural values of branch dictionaries. The potential importance of the practical application of the results lies in improving the theoretical and methodological principles and foundations of compiling terminological dictionaries, as well as their use in the development of new models of special publications, in particular dictionaries of a new type, which will comprehensively present the terminology of a certain field of science.

The article aims at approximating the socio-cultural dimension of contemporary requirements of women, especially women who are socially imposed by the codes of self-improvement and satisfaction in almost every sphere of life: partnership, intellectual, family, sexual, aesthetic, professional. The article is divided into three parts. The first part, entitled “The run for liberation or alienation, narcissism and frustration”, discusses the evolution of the “Polish Mother” stereotype into that of the “superhero” type. The following part describes the conflict between women’s need for recognition and self-exclusion on their way to happiness. The last part designates the quest for recognition among items that satisfy the consumption hunger and escalate the hunger for recognition, simultaneously causing a natural disintegration of women’s inner power.

The paper deals with the functioning of if-clauses in mathematical word problems and with their equivalents. First, the nature of a word problem as a text type is shown. Further, the difference between complex sentences with proper implicative-causal relation and a lay use of conditional clauses is examined. As its main goal, the paper presents a comparison of various instances of conditional clauses in mathematics word problems. Also, it shows the role of formulaic stereotypy and conventional assumptions in word problem texts as an integral part of both the mathematical and the communicative competence.

Discoveries of mine-type workshop linked to hunter-gatherers within the Polish Plain have been rare. In 2001, excavations at site 3 in Kłodawa, Gorzów county, ended providing a rich collection of flint artefacts. Technological and typological analysis permitted interpretation of the collected assemblages as remnants of a Final Palaeolithic mine type workshop related to the Swiderian-Ahrensburgian technocomplex.

Celem rozważań jest ustalenie treści pojęcia „zakłady żywienia zbiorowego”, dokonanie klasyfikacji tych zakładów oraz określenie ich statusu prawnego. Realizując tak określony cel, analizie zostały poddane m.in. pojęcia: „zakład”, „zakład żywienia zbiorowego”, „zakład żywienia zbiorowego typu otwartego”, „zakład żywienia zbiorowego typu zamkniętego” oraz „przedsiębiorstwo spożywcze”. W świetle prawa żywnościowego można wyróżnić zakłady żywienia zbiorowego typu otwartego i zamkniętego. To rozróżnienie jest dość uproszczone, gdyż zakład żywienia zbiorowego typu zamkniętego stanowi jedynie fragment działalności określonej jednostki. W konkluzji Autorka wskazuje m.in. na niejednorodność omawianego pojęcia w porządku prawa krajowego i unijnego, ale także na zróżnicowanie pozostałych pojęć związanych z funkcjonowaniem zakładów żywienia zbiorowego. Objęcie wszystkich zakładów żywienia zbiorowego jedną definicją jest zabiegiem ryzykownym, gdy weźmie się pod uwagę, że każdy z takich zakładów wykazuje pewną swoistość w działalności żywieniowej. Ponadto przepisy prawa żywnościowego nie regulują zasad funkcjonowania poszczególnych jednostek jako zakładów żywienia zbiorowego.
The aim of the considerations was to determine the content of the concept of “mass catering establishments,” to classify these establishments and to determine their legal status. In pursuing the objective thus defined, the various concepts that have been analysed include: “establishment,” “mass catering establishment,” “open type mass catering establishment,” “closed type mass catering establishment” and “food establishment.” Under food law, a distinction may be made between an open-type and a closed-type mass catering establishment. This distinction is somewhat simplified, as a closed-type mass catering establishment represents only a fragment of the activities of a given entity. In conclusion of the conducted considerations, among other things, attention is drawn to the heterogeneity of the discussed concept under national and EU laws, and to the diversity of other concepts related to the operation of mass catering establishments. Attempting to embrace all mass catering establishments under a single definition is a risky endeavour, given that each of such establishments exhibits a certain specificity in its food business. Furthermore, food law does not regulate the operation of individual units in the capacity of mass catering establishments.

Although deltas and subaqueous fans are both formed in the same near-shore zones of basins, the hydraulic conditions for their formation, development and sedimentary records are different. The present review discusses the results of previously published studies of fan deltas (Gilbert-type deltas) and subaqueous fans of lacustrine and glaciolacustrine environments. The depositional mechanisms of deltas and subaqueous fans, textural and structural features of the lithofacies associations and their typical lithofacies are presented. The characteristics of subaqueous fans, which are still relatively poorly understood and are often overlooked in sedimentological interpretations of lacustrine sedimentary successions, receive particular attention. The palaeoenvironmental and lithological differences between deltas and subaqueous fans are highlighted.
