The article sets out with the theory of “aesthetics of reality” (created by Maria Gołaszewska) and its related method of transferring artistic structures onto non-artistic reality. The resulting construct, which is dubbed a para-artistic structure, becomes the theoretical basis for the aesthetic experience of nature. The so-called “formalization”—a procedure which consists in inserting nature into artistic frameworks—makes natural phenomena acquire a pretense of artwork. Nature as a picture becomes a landscape, while terms connected with the aesthetics of nature gain artistic qualities, enabling use of such notions as picturesque or kitsch. The methodological proposal by Gołaszewska is subsequently compared with the critical perspective of environmental aesthetics.

In Polish literary studies methodology, Kleiner’s status as entirely marginal, if not anachronistic, can be justified only on one condition, namely if we overlook the study Content and form in poetry (“Przegląd Warszawski” 1922, r. 2, vol. 2, pp. 323–333), for it can be read as the rejected cornerstone of Polish immanent structuralism. Due to the ambiguity of the term “structuralism”, it is necessary to define its meaning here: it will be determined by the historical context, i.e. the Course in General Linguistics (first edition: 1916). Adopting Janusz Sławiński’s terminology, we may add that it is a rejected cornerstone of immanent (“unconscious”) structuralism not a formulated one.

The author analyzes the methods and rules of posing problems and finding answers in selected texts of Polish literature scholars who have devoted some thought to the place of poetics in contemporary literature studies discourse, and demonstrates that the category of experience may provide a way out of the Post-Structuralist impasse.

Artykuł powraca do związków między strukturalizmem a historią i stawia problem aktualnych możliwości zastosowania inspiracji strukturalistycznych w badaniach historycznych. Jednym z pól takiego płodnego mariażu może być kwestia rozważań genetycznych. Jako przykład potwierdzający znaczenie myślenia strukturalistycznego w kontekście pytania o genezę danego zjawiska historycznego została wykorzystana analiza Michela Serres’a odnosząca się do problemu pochodzenia geometrii.
The paper discusses various possibilities of using structuralism in the current historical research. It seems, e.g., that this methodology or mode of reasoning could still be helpful to understand the origins of some historic phenomena. Despite the widely-held belief, the most important thinkers associated with structuralism, such as Jean-Pierre Vernant, Roland Barthes, or Pierre Vidal-Naquet, did not reduce their interests to the study of synchronic relations, but – as Foucault put it – attempted to fashion the instrument for a precise historical analysis. It was also a case of Michel Serres’ reflection on the origins of geometry. This example is closely examined in the paper to indicate some differences between both traditional and structuralist approaches to that question.

Foltin is a musical community, and I say community and not group, because the word group is associated with the crowd. This is my attempt totry to explain the process of reading the important  characteristics  of  purposeful  meaning  in  the  poetry  of  Branko  Nikolov  (Foltin). This kind of reading is qualitatively different from ordinary reading. Namely, we will dare to read  from  an  ethnographic  point  of  view,  which  means  investigating,  i.e.  analyzing  with active  participation.  From  the  end  of  the  1990s  until  today,  I  have  attended  all significant “Foltin” events, which for me is something private, and therefore something that engages me is  our  common  Vezilka,  their  poetry.  Hence,  reading  is  a  job  for  our  Vezilka  –  Lenka  or as they prefer to say, the song  120, while simple reading is a matter of my ignorance. From the  surface  level  of  their  explicit manifestation  (Music  and  Poetry),  everything  leads  to a  tangled,  implicit poetic  level.  That  is  the  process  that  we  technically  name  reading,  and reading looks like the one term that can be clearly marked as decoding from surface to deep structures.

At the end of the 20th century, the theory of art history shifted from the area of methodology understood as a normative field of the philosophy of science to the area of the social practice of constructing knowledge. The term “art historical methodology” itself became trivialized when its meaning was detached from the horizon of epistemology and became extremely inclusive, encompassing all methods practised in the discipline, with a method being considered to be the use of any theory as a tool of interpretation. As a consequence, the basic problem of scientific methodology, which is the critical assessment of explanatory and interpretive theories due to the value of their justification, is not addressed in the self-reflection of contemporary art history. The retreat from the rigors of methodology was related to the reception of structuralism, initiated by Ernst Gombrich in the book Art and Illusion. Popper’s model of situational logic as a method of historical explanation of works of art was transformed into a structuralist model, referring to constant rules of pictorial representation, symbolization and communication. Michael Fried and Norman Bryson formulated their own theories of invariant rules defining the necessary initial conditions for the formation and reception of pictures, so that individual works could be interpreted in terms of these rules and, as a result, confirm the general theory, which created a vicious circle. Structuralist theories did not function as hypotheses requiring critical testing, but as interpretive codes that served to read each work of art within their own conceptual system. The next step in the process of the reception of structuralism was the development of theories defining general rules that would govern the discursive practice of art history, and the detection of which at the basis of this practice would discredit or invalidate its epistemological dimension. Hayden White’s narrativism was the theory that historical discourse is subject to narrative conventions, not to the laws of logic and the rigors of methodology that serve to limit the pool of alternative explanations or interpretations. This theory was intended to justify the pluralism of equal versions of history as a politically correct idea, appropriate for a “democratic” model of knowledge. Theorists developing White’s theses in the field of art history claimed that the discursive practice of this discipline was not governed by methodological rules but by political motivations (Keith Moxey) or aesthetic principles of artwriting (David Carrier). After the phase of open denial of the dependence of the art history discourse on methodology, the theory of the discipline turned into an analysis of techniques for building this discourse, which no longer included methodological issues, as in James Elkins’ book Our Beautiful, Dry, and Distant Texts. A critical review of theories separating art history from methodology leads to the conclusion that they are untenable. It is impossible to maintain the scientific status of our discipline without respecting the principles of methodology founded in the contemporary philosophy of science.

Artykuł jest próbą interpretacji zagadnień słowotwórstwa hybryd leksykalnych z elementem angielskim w języku polskim z wykorzystaniem gramatyki kognitywnej na tle tradycyjnego słowotwórstwa strukturalnego. Badania nad istotą hybryd pozwolą pokazać ich semiotyczną naturę, natomiast dokładniejsza analiza budowy tych wyrazów wykaże, iż w celach poznawczych warto wyjść poza strukturalne koncepcje badawcze i sięgnąć do narzędzi oferowanych przez inne teorie językoznawstwa. W tymże opracowaniu wykorzystano alternatywną w stosunku do głównego nurtu językoznawstwa i prężnie rozwijającą się teorię gramatyki kognitywnej. Gramatyka kognitywna może bowiem przynieść nowe spojrzenie na istniejące w polszczyźnie hybrydy z cząstkami angielskimi, których sposoby tworzenia, postrzegania, rozumienia wydają się bardziej interesujące, aniżeli wykazywałoby to słowotwórstwo w klasycznym, jedynie strukturalnym rozumieniu. Analiza wybranych jednostek językowych przedstawiona w niniejszym artykule ma na celu również ukazanie tego, jak istotne w tworzeniu nowych słów są semantyka oraz świadomość językowa.
The article is an attempt at interpretation of traditional structural word formation according to cognitive grammar. Exploration field is concentrated on lexical hybrids with English element in Polish language. The research on hybrids essence reveals their semiotic nature. Traditional and structural point of view is not enough to show all aspects of these kind of words, therefore new instruments are needed. New way of description hybrid phenomena is offered by the cognitive grammar. Cognitive grammar possibilities let investigate hybrids with English element in an interesting way, which is not usually used in traditional word formation. The analysis also shows how important are semantics and linguistics awareness in the creation of new words.Beyond structuralism. Lexical hybrids in the light of cognitive grammar

Translation history has always played an important role in Slovak literary and translation studies. In our paper we discuss the beginnings of Slovak translation historyresearch, which have their roots in formalism and structuralism, and reconstruct lines of influence to the present when translation history is a lively, open, interdisciplinary,and empirical discipline. With the past in mind, we look at several of the most recent and significant research initiatives in Slovak translation history research and evaluate their potential for the future.
Historia tłumaczeń zawsze była bardzo ważna dla słowackiej literatury i badań nad tłumaczeniami. W niniejszym artykule omawiamy początki słowackiej historii badańnad tłumaczeniami, których korzenie odnajdziemy w formalizmie i strukturalizmie. Również poddajemy rekonstrukcji linie wpływów aż do obecnych czasów, w których historię tłumaczeń można opisać jako żywą, otwartą, interdyscyplinarną i empiryczną dziedziną. Biorąc pod uwagę również przeszłość, przyglądamy się kilku najnowszym i najistotniejszym słowackim inicjatywom w historii badań nad tłumaczeniami i oceniamy ich potencjał na przyszłość.

Is it possible to talk of mental patterns underlying aesthetic reflections, and has the constant recurrence of particular ideas in the area of aesthetics some deeper explanation? Structural aesthetics of music is an authorial research conception which enables interpretation of phenomena from the area of history of music aesthetics, and in this way provides its systematised picture. The conception uses the ideas of structural linguistics: binary phonological opposition and the historicalliterary process in the approach of Jan Mukařovský. The article also contains an example of using this conception in relation to the aesthetics of antiquity (sophists, Plato, Aristotle), Descartes and impressionism.

Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie sprzeczności i niejednoznaczności zawartych w strukturalistycznym pojęciu „podmiot liryczny”. Badaczka przywołuje współczesne użycia tego pojęcia oraz historię pokrewnych koncepcji, by przez ten pryzmat wskazać istotne przesunięcia w domyślnym rozumieniu instancji nadawczej we współczesnej krytyce literackiej. Pierwotna programowa – zamierzona i politycznie motywowana – abstrakcyjność koncepcji „podmiotu lirycznego” została zredukowana do ogólnej intuicji o nietożsamości autora i podmiotu mówiącego, wtórnie zaś utrudnia postrzeganie instancji nadawczych jako efektów konkretnych i znaczących decyzji autorskich.
The article aims to analyse contradictions and ambiguities embedded in the structuralist concept of “the lyrical subject”. The researcher reviews contemporary applications of the term and overviews a history of related concepts in order to show meaningful shifts in the default meaning of the issuer in contemporary literary criticism. Initial programmatic abstractness of the “lyrical subject”, both intended and politically motivated, has been reduced to a general intuition concerning the non-identity of the author and the speaking subject. The secondary consequence is that it obfuscates perceiving issuers as the effects of specific and intended authorial decisions.

The article is going to show how the approach to the educational role of language has changed. The emergence of new thinking about language is directly associated with the tendency to shift from objectivity to subjectivity. W artykule przedstawiam specyficzną propozycję lektury Logiki sensu, którą – luźno nawiązując do filozofii Kanta – nazywam architektoniczną. Lektura architektoniczna polegać ma na jednoczesnej analizie teorii filozoficznej oraz formalnej konstrukcji dzieła. Chociaż technikę taką można próbować odnieść do wielu klasycznych już pozycji, to przypadek Logiki sensu okazuje się wyjątkowy – zasugerował ją bowiem sam autor, gdy każdy z trzydziestu czterech rozdziałów nazwał serią, pojęcie „serii” zaś uczynił kluczowym dla teorii. Logika jest więc celowo książką samozwrotną, co przekłada się między innymi na to, iż układ rozdziałów i akapitów, charakter pojęć filozoficznych, a nawet trudności z czytaniem znajdują uzasadnienie w treści. Ostatecznie okazuje się, że Logika sensu jest skonstruowana jak układanka czekająca na złożenie zgodnie z subiektywnymi pytaniami i problemami Czytelnika. Celowo nie przedstawiam żadnej konkretnej propozycji lektury, wykładam jedynie narzędzia do jej„obsługi”. W tym sensie artykuł stanowi prolegomena do właściwej lektury Logiki sensu.
The article presents a specific proposal of reading the Logic of Sense, which – referring to the philosophy of Kant – I call architectural. Architectural reading consists in the simultaneous analysis of philosophical theory and the formal structure of the work. Although this technique may be referred to a number of classic works, Logic’s case appears to be unique, as suggested by the author when he names each of the 34 chapters ‘series’ as a pivotal concept for the theory. ThereforeLogic is deliberately self-reflexive, which means that the structure of chapters and paragraphs, the nature of philosophical concepts, and even the difficulty in reading are justified by contents. Finally, it appears that Logic is constructed as a puzzle waiting to be solved in accordance with subjective questions and problems of the reader. I intentionally do not present any particular proposal of reading, I merely try to provide a ‘strategy’. In this sens, the article is a prolegomena to the proper reading of the Logic of Sense.

Artykuł stara się pokazać, w jaki sposób w pracach francuskiego filozofa Jean-Luca Nancy’ego przebiegają połączenia pomiędzy pojęciem „wspólnoty” a pojęciem „komunizmu”. To drugie posiada dla niego znaczenie przekraczające sferę polityki i powinno być rozumiane jako swego rodzaju kategoria pre-egzystencjalna i quasi-ontologiczna. Bycie we wspólnocie oznacza dla filozofa bycie-z, które podkreślone zostaje przez łaciński prefiks „com” charakteryzujący tak „communitas”, jak i „komunizm”. „Com” wskazuje na to, że bycie jest przede wszystkim byciem z innym (nie tylko z innymi ludźmi, lecz z wszelkim innym istnieniem, wliczając w to zwierzęta, rośliny itd.). Ponadto, jak powiedział Nancy, „komunizm jest byciem-razem –Mitsein, byciem-z rozumianym jako coś przynależnego do istnienia jednostek, co znaczy, w egzystencjalnym sensie, do ich istoty”. Dlatego też wspólnota Nancy’ego nie przynależy do „logiki mitu” jako że jest, w pierwszej kolejności, tym, co nazwał on „wspólnotą rozdzieloną”.
In this article I would like to show in which way in the works ofFrench philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy there are links between “community” and“communism”. The latter, for him, has a meaning exceeding the domain of politics and should be understood as a some kind of pre-existential and quasi-onthologicalcategory. Being-in-common means for philosopher being-with which is expressed by Latin prefix “com” characterizing “communitas” and “communism”. “Com”emphasizes that being is first of all being with other (not only with other people but with every other being including in it animals, plants etc). Furthermore, asNancy said: “communism is togetherness – the Mitsein, the being- with, understood as the belonging to existence of the individuals, which means, in the existential meaning, to their essence”. Therefore, Nancy’s community doesn’t belong to “the logic of myth” since is, in the first place, what he called “the inoperative community”.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza podręczników do nauki historii literatury autorstwa Bożeny Chrząstowskiej. Zarówno Starożytność – oświecenie(1987), jak i Literatura współczesna (1992) są przykładem łączenia tradycji strukturalistycznych z nowymi, uwzględniającymi oczekiwania i możliwości intelektualne młodego odbiorcy. Punktem wyjścia podjętych rozważań są ustalenia Chrząstowskiej na temat warunków czytania tekstu w przestrzeni edukacyjnej, które zostały przedstawione w artykule Polonistyka szkolna w procesie komunikacji literackiej z 1977 roku. Od końca lat 80. propozycje metodyczne Chrząstowskiej zmierzają w nowym kierunku, choć zarazem Profesor nie traci z pola widzenia konieczności racjonalizacji aktu lektury w szkole. Mimo że Chrząstowska wprost nie opowiadała się za modelem antropocentrycznym edukacji polonistycznej, to jej postulat odchodzenia od szkolnego encyklopedyzmu na rzecz kształcenia umiejętności czytelniczych, a w dalszej perspektywie także dokonywania przez młodego człowieka wyborów aksjologicznych, można uznać za ważny krok orientujący nauczanie w kierunku potrzeb człowiek estetycznych.
The main aim of an article is an analysis of the textbooks of the Polish history literature course in a high school. Bożena Chrząstowska's textbooks Starożytność–oświecenie (1987) as well as Literatura współczesna(1992) combine structuralism tradition and new tendencies in Polish education which are oriented to the esthetic expectation of the students and also their intellectual skills. At the beginning of this article the author focuses on Chrząstowska's notion of the literature works reading by students which she demonstrated in the article Polonistyka szkolna w procesie komunikacji literackiej (1977). During the next decade Chrząstowska's didactic proposals partly turned to new direction including a “center-anthropological” orientation in educational process but she firmly expressed necessity of rationalization of text reading in school. Chrząstowska's textbooks are the crucial didactic proposals which supported students during the process of building their reading skills, mainly, interpretation of literary works. Thanks to these abilities young people – according to Professor Chrząstowska– will be able to make aesthetic choosing in the future.
