The situation of man in the beginning of 21st century is known as the postmodern. The concept of postmodernism indicates theoretically more or less elaborated opinions on current status of the process of globalization. The process of globalization does not produce only progress and positives but also threats, risks and transformation of man which are not only humanizing. The problem of postmodernism is mastery of plurality, heterogenity and otherness of ways, values and experiences of life, specialization of branches of science and societal development trends so that it contributes to digni ed human life in society. The concept of postmodernism and its consequences for education of the younger generation project into conceptions of educational institutions, education in the family, but they also nd their re ection in state policy due to the younger generation. Social changes, which occured at the end of 20th century, are part of global context of economical, political, social and cultural evolution. Their reach and importance must be seen into the future and in these wider connections.

The present article refers to a free associative experiment and its results. The author tries to determine what values are represented with the term “woman” in Russian and Polish societies. The article is focused on similarities as well as differences between the Polish and Russian respondents. In order to achieve this, the author classified and divided the lexis proposed by the respondents into groups. Those groups were thoroughly discussed and analyzed. By doing this, the author tries to look into the subconsciousness of a young modern person. Thus, in the article the answers to the following questions can be found: do stereotypes concerning women still exist?; what do Poles and Russians think about that?; is their way of thinking convergent or not?The experiment described in the article was conducted during 2011–2013 among 100 Poles and 200 Russians under the age of 30. It was carried out by means of series  of surveys; in these surveys respondents were asked to provide words and expressions they associate with the term “woman”. Classified lexical units were then analyzed, the conclusion was drawn on the basis of this analysis. The text is divided into parts. Every part revolves around classification of responses of both groups: first group — Russians (both men and women), second — Poles (men and women). The assignment comprises four diagrams that picture the percentage of responses in the groups.

The article presents and analyzes selected basic problems coinciding with the issues of the inclusion and integration of population into the domain of social security, and it answers the research question: what is the proper, complete and exact meaning of the notions of security, social security, and social welfare? Critical semantical analysis of many works and statements, from classical to modern to newest ones, is the principal research method. According to the central conclusion, the most proper definition of social security identifies it with care, protection and control and not mainly with the absence of threats. The author underscores that leading publications identify social security with protecting the existential foundations of human lives and assuring the fulfillment of individual needs (material and spiritual) and aspirations through the creation of conditions facilitating work and education, and through healthcare and pension guarantees. Part One of the article focuses on the etymology of the definition of security, and on the conventional understanding of security. Part Two is devoted to the natural definition of security, especially social security. Part Three provides information on the topic of social security, considered from the angle of protection and control of people’s living standards.

The principal notion of the article–a “backward catastrophe”– stands for a catastrophe which occurs unseen until it becomes recognized and which broadens its destructive activity until it has been recognized. This concept in the article has been referred to the Shoah. The main thesis is that the recognition of the actual influence of the Holocaust began in Polish culture in the mid-1980s (largely it started with the film by Claude Lanzmann Shoah and the essay by Jan Błoński Biedni Polacy patrzą na getto [“The Poor Poles Look at the Ghetto”]), that is when the question: “What happened to the Jews”, assumes the form: “Did the things that happened to the Jews, also happened to the Poles?”. Cognitive and ethical reorientation leads to the revealing of the hidden consequences of the Holocaust reaching as far as the present day and undermining the foundations of collective identity. In order to understand this situation (and adopt potentially preventive actions) Polish society should be recognized as a postcatastrophic one.

The article explores the interactions between the family and the market in the context of the happiness and tensions that exist between these two social institutions. The analysis undertaken here also stresses the importance of culture, understood as the norms, values and beliefs which are important for a wide range of actions and processes within a society, and treats it as a useful perspective for the explanation of complex socio economic phenomena. Firstly, the nature and mutual dependence of these two spheres is characterized in order to highlight that the desired social order cannot function without any of them. In this respect the article also aims to explain the role that the family plays in society and the happiness achieved by its members. At the same time, it is stressed that the proper functioning of society depends largely on the vision of a man that a given society accepts. By doing this, the limitations of the anthropological assumptions of the dominant neoclassical economics are indicated and discussed. Secondly, the article shows how the family dimension of human life – social in its nature – is intrinsically connected with the issue of happiness. It is important to stress this because to a large extent happiness in economics and different happiness indices seem to limit their analyses to subjective individual well-being. Finally, the article states that although market and family are to an extent complementary, the proper socio-cultural hierarchy and policies based on it should stress the priority of the latter. Evidence of different kinds for such a standpoint is subsequently presented. In the end, the categories of ‘social’ and ‘human’ capital and their correlation is engaged to improve understanding of the fact that a well-functioning family is a necessary condition for the development and long-term flourishing of the market.

The author’s longitudinal study of the issue of languages has led him to find out that normal relationships, which people usually have with their own languages require four necessary conditions: 1- They must speak to each other only in their own languages 2- They must use them in writing 3- They must have good knowledge of the meanings of the words of their languages as well as of their grammatical and spelling rules. 4- The full practice of 1,2 and 3 by the citizens and the institutions in societies leads to intimate relationships with the languages: love the languages, defend them and be proud of them.

In recent years Poland has been undergoing rapid socio-cultural changes. Along with these changes one can observe a systematic decline in the importance of religious life. This leads to reflection on the direction and depth of transformations, and consequently on the place of religion in the life of future generations. The study attempts to statistically present the religious situation of the inhabitants of Cieszyn Silesia. This is a very specific region mainly due to the diversity of confessions. Historical conditions, as well as the current religious structure make this subject difficult to study, but at the same time very interesting. For a more complete picture, the data from the beginning of the 20th century, as well as from the present day, were used.

The study is intended to signal changes in the way of communication in a rural family, including the problem of shrinking or even disappearance of traditional oral communication. For centuries, this message has determined the transmission of broadly understood culture, including traditions and customs. At present, the spoken word, one of the typical features of peasant culture, is being forced out of family life for the sake of other forms of communication. The forum for exchanging thoughts, opinions or views has moved from the family table to the Internet, and the activity in conducting conversations is focused primarily on social media or various types of discussion forums.

This text is an attempt at analysing the linguistic image of a J ew on the basis of Hôrkij śmich by a little-known Ukrainian poet Leon Węgliński. According to researchers, every language has a specific interpretation of reality which is expressed in a unique view and perception of the world. This article, through a thorough analysis of the vocabulary, grammar structures and descriptions, shows the images of a J ew in the nineteenth century: his identity, character traits and daily functioning. The material gathered for the study presents a definitely negative image of a J ew.

W potocznym rozumieniu wiedza i demokracja to zjawiska i praktyki społeczne, które powinny się wzajemnie wspierać i warunkować. Społeczeństwa wiedzy nie da się jednak w pełni pogodzić z ustrojem demokratycznym. Wytwarza ono różne ideologie oraz inspiruje działania, które pozostają ze sobą w sprzeczności i nie zawsze dobrze służą demokracji. Nie ma w tym nic osobliwego, bo wiedza opiera się demokratyzacji, co najlepiej widać w szkolnictwie wyższym. Można jednak i trzeba likwidować bariery dostępu do wiedzy - i temu właśnie ma dziś służyć demokracja.
Knowledge and democracy are commonly viewed the social phenomena and practices which should support each other and should be mutually dependent. However, a knowledge society cannot be fully reconciled with the democratic system as the latter produces ideologies and inspires actions that are mutually contradictory and do not always do a good service to democracy. However, there is nothing peculiar about it since knowledge is based on democratisation, and this is best exemplified in tertiary education. However, one may, and must, eliminate barriers preventing access to knowledge, and this is the purpose that democracy today needs to serve.

Resilient society and social dialogue are core topics for monitoring citizens’ initiative in participatory democracy as an engaged citizen often empowers governance facilitating active social engagement and democratic. (1) Background: The intent of the current research is to document and monitor the notion of “resilient society” and twenty associated topics in order to provide the latest emerging illustrations of the impact of social media on citizens’ initiative and participation levels in the European Union (EU); (2) Methods: Based on the Brand24 media monitoring tool, the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the social media reach focuses a period of one month (June-July 2023) with the aim to assess a better understanding of the resilient society and citizens’ participation; (3) Results and findings: The results of the research emphasize the role of citizens’ engagement and social dialogue for a resilient society by scaling the linkages between the historical, institutional and participative levels; (4) Discussion: The article shows how policy agenda and decisions, historical facts and social realities influence the social media reach and highlights the outcomes of the sentiment analysis and influence score of the selected topics.

The aim of this article is to identify the main principles for how the public sector functions in a post-industrial society. The research method adopted was a meta-analysis of the results of research by various authors on the issues of managing the development of post-industrial society. The subject of the meta-analysis was primarily literature in the field of knowledge management, development economics and new growth theories. The post-industrial society presented in the article appears as a land of happiness, where everyone works together to multiply the common good, guided by the following principles: knowledge gives access to power because post-industrial society is a meritocracy; social standing depends on diligence and willingness to take advantage of the offers of the educational system; the role of the state is to provide and safeguard open access to the ruling elite for anyone who wishes to learn and improve their conduct by developing objectively formulated, fair and impartial procedures for filling public sector positions. Decision-makers, i.e. those who have power, are not only professionals but also people who put the common good before self-interest. Representatives of the science sector set the directions of state policy and prepare strategies for achieving them. The science sector is independent of government and business, which is manifested in the freedom of to teach and conduct research. Social inequalities are being tackled and citizens can monitor the spending of public funds, since we are dealing with a welfare state. The prevailing political system is participatory democracy. Citizens participate in the life of society on an equal footing, and decisions about the future of society are consulted with them. Political decentralization in the management of public administration is common.
