    The article presents partial results of qualitative research conducted among 83 respondents (28 teachers and 55 students) from four European countries, using tablets to work at school. The aim of the research was to recognize the scope of application of mobile technologies by teachers and students and also their opinions on the usefulness of these technologies as a support in the process of education. An image of teachers and students, who realistically assess the advantages and disadvantages of tablets, and who redefine their role in the educational process, emerges from the individual interviews and focus conversations.

    This paper attempts to explore the processes involved in the methodological, intellectual and cultural reproduction (valorization) of the traditional status of social sciences in the beginning of the 21st century, with specific references to commercial conditions. Compensation and reproduction is discussed as a study of universities experience in the period of numerous changes. Particularly the economic and cultural determinants of selected problems and the direction of the transformation which is still in the course in the Polish democratic and the normative order in the post-totalitarian society is criticized not only by the author, but also university professors, lectures and students. However, in the end of paper, the author shows optimism connected with the reproduction of the expected reforms in higher education in Poland and in the post-industrial world.

    The article can be viewed as an attempt to ascertain Neo-Luddistictendencies present in critiques of higher education reforms. In the Polish contextthey can be identified in marginalization of technoscience perspective. Author pointsat potentially emancipatory dimension of technoscience and necessity of imaginingchange, which could serve as an alternative to both Neo-Luddistic technophobyand capitalistic technocracy.

    This article aims to address the processes of social changes in terms of the theory of social acceleration. It begins with an outline of the theory of social acceleration and discusses how an investigation into the driving forces of social acceleration can be used to explain the dynamics of social stability and change. It criticizes the acceleration theory because its focus is merely on high-industrialized western societies as well as the neglect of normative and religious aspects in the processes of social acceleration and change. This article proposes a revised model of social acceleration and applies it to Iranian society. It identifies the main features of acceleration-cycle formed in Iranian society in the 1960s and 1970s to answer the question of why the cycle of acceleration could not establish a self-propelling acceleratory formation as a prime requirement for preserving social stability.

    Tekst poświęcony jest kilku wybranym, nader istotnym i wciąż silnie spornym warstwom i perspektywom dyskursu postkolonialnego w Polsce, w kontekście współczesnych, rzeczywistych problemów społecznej i kulturowej lokalności. W konsekwencji zaś także: ich politycznym urzeczywistnieniom dyskursywnym. W centrum pracy znajdują się podziały społeczne i użytek jaki czynią narratorzy tegoż dyskursu, traktowanego czy to jako narzędzie do ich umocnienia (bądź restauracji) jak i oporu emancypacyjnego Głównym motywem, w tej perspektywie, jest przeniesienie uwagi badawczej na problematykę społeczną, jaka dokonała się w tejże „debacie postkolonialnej” stając się w niej coraz silniej obecna i donośna. W konsekwencji, w sposób znaczący odchodząc od typowo literaturoznawczych kulturoznawczych i literackich źródeł tego nurtu refleksji. Tym sposobem, badacze postkolonialni stają wobec jednego z najsilniejszych jego wyzwań jakim jest, wedle autora: reakcyjna narracja postkolonialna.
    The paper aims to address a few selected, very important, yet still strongly contested layers and perspectives of Polish postcolonial discourse within a context of an actual local social and cultural problems (and in consequence: its political narrative). Social divisions and using postcolonial narrations and languages both as a tool to reinforce (or restoration) them and, on the other hand: resistance, in particular. The main goal of the paper is to show, in perspective, how the social problems became more present and vocal and the whole local „postcolonial debate” is strongly shifting form its predominant literature and cultural source of reflection. Facing, as author argues, the most challenging topic: postcolonial reactionary narrative.

    Artykuł podejmuje wątki związane z ideą prawa do miasta: traktuje ją jako jedną z naczelnych ideologii polityki emancypacyjnej, z drugiej strony wyraża zainteresowanie aktorami odwołującymi się (wprost i nie wprost) do jej retoryki. Analizuje prawo do miasta jako puste znaczące – kategorię, której sens nadają aktorzy wykorzystujący ją w ramach pragmatyki walk społecznych. Stara się też podjąć wątek „(r)ewolucyjnej retoryki” rozmaitych podmiotów zmiany społecznej, wskazując na fakt postępującej funkcjonalizacji idei prawa do miasta, która z ideologii (czy też doktryny praktycznej) o marksistowskiej, ergo rewolucyjnej proweniencji wykorzystywana jest coraz częściej jako polityczna etykieta.
    The paper deals with the idea of ??the right to the city (RTTC), one of the leading ideologies of contemporary emancipatory politics. It also focuses on social actors (mainly Polish urban social movements) as the RTTC users and deals with the problem how urban activists use the idea in everyday political praxis. The right to the city is analysed with respect to the Laclau’s notion of an “empty signifier”, that is, as an element which depends on the interpretation put on it in the pragmatics of social struggles.Furthermore, the article examines the fact of consistent functionalization of theRTTC idea. The initially Marxian concept of revolutionary origins is now becoming increasingly reformist and is being used mainly as a popular political label.

    The article presents socio-demographic, physical-functional and cultural-symbolic change aspects of chosen local communities in Poland, which aretheresult of the gentrification process, making itself real in their space. In the first part of the article information about genesis and the course of gentrification with the characteristic of the main actors’ groups taking part in it is addressed. The second part of the article is devoted to the description of changes being experienced by local communities. Conclusions included in the end concentrate around consequences of progressive gentrification process for local communities and attempts to set a path to prevent negative aspect of theconsequences mentioned.

    Łagodzenie i adaptacja do zmian klimatu to dwa krytyczne wyzwania cywilizacyjne, wobec których staje wiele podmiotów społecznych. Celem artykułu jest analiza fenomenu polskich ruchów społecznych na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej za pomocą „podejścia poznawczego”, wprowadzonego i rozwijanego przez Rona Eyermana i Andrew Jamisona. Artykuł podejmuje dwa główne problemy. Po pierwsze, zawiera rekonstrukcję konceptualno-metodologicznych ram dla badań nad aktywizmem na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej. Po drugie, prezentuje wstępne rozpoznanie uniwersów poznawczych i praktyk polskich ruchów na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej, opierając się na desk research oraz badaniach opartych na 30 wywiadach pogłębionych przeprowa dzonych w trzech polskich miastach (Poznań, Wrocław, Warszawa). Artykuł wskazuje również na luki badawcze, identyfikując przede wszystkim potrzebę większego zaangażowania nauk społecznych w działania na rzecz łagodzenia zmian klimatu, w tym otwarcia środowiska akademickiego na perspektywy oddolne.
    Mitigating and adapting to climate change are two critical civilizational challenges nowadays, and many social actors are facing them. The paper’s objective is to analyse the phenomenon of Polish climate justice social movements through the use of the ‘cognitive approach’, introduced and developed by Ron Eyerman and Andrew Jamison. The article addresses two main issues. First, it attempts to reconstruct a conceptual-methodological framework for research on environmental activism. Second, it presents a preliminary presentation of the cognitive universes and practices of Polish climate justice movements based on the findings from desk research and an empirical investigation based on 30 in-depth interviews conducted in three Polish cities (Poznań, Wrocław, Warszawa). The article also addresses research gaps while pointing out the need for greater involvement of the social sciences in climate change mitigation measures, including opening up academia to bottom-up perspectives.

    Studie Románová reflexe 28. října 1918 se zabývá několika českými romány, vzniklými ve 20. letech 20. století, jejichž autoři, K.M. Čapek Chod, A.M. Tilschová a B. Benešová reflektují změnu společenského klimatu za války a bezprostředně po ní. Proměnu spojují nejen se změnou společenského zřízení, se vznikem demokratické republiky, ale především s představou osvobození se od společenských norem, spojených se světem před válkou. Postavy těchto románů procházejí katarzí, která je osvobozuje a otvírá jim nové životní perspektivy.
    The study Reflection of the October in Czech novels analyses several novels that originated in the twentieths of the twentieth century. Their authors, K.M. Čapek Chod, A.M. Tilschová and B. Benešová, reflect the change of social climate during the war and immediately after it. They connect the rise of the new State, a democratic Republic, with the notion of liberation from empty social norms connected with the world before the war. Characters of these novels are undergoing a catharsis that liberates them and opens new perspectives of life for them.
