    Breastfeeding provides good-quality nutrition for babies and can be very beneficial for both mom and baby. However, modern women face many challenges in breastfeeding their babies that can be attributed to today’s ever-evolving cultural and psycho-social underpinnings. These multiple barriers to breastfeeding in today’s society hinder women from developing a good breastfeeding relationship with their babies. The various factors that prohibit initiation and prolonged breastfeeding however can be counteracted by examining the barriers to breastfeeding and finding reasonable methods for resolving the challenges. Twenty-first century women who desire to breastfeed can be successful at achieving their breastfeeding goals with greater support by society and by having more confidence in themselves.

    Celem pracy jest określenie trudności, z jakimi borykają się jednostki z różnymi rodzajami niepełnosprawności oraz ich negatywnych skutków, wśród których wymienić można: ograniczenie możliwości uczestnictwa w życiu kulturalnym, społecznym i realizowaniu się w życiu zawodowym, utrudniony dostęp do dóbr społecznie pożądanych oraz obniżenie poziomu zadowolenia z życia tych jednostek. Uwaga zostanie skupiona przede wszystkim na określeniu wpływu barier na życie jednostek z niepełnosprawnością. W tym celu dokonam analizy materiałów zastanych, w których uwzględnione zostały utrudnienia, z którymi muszą się one mierzyć oraz sposobu, w jaki wpływają one na samopoczucie i całokształt życia jednostek. Określone zostaną sposoby ułatwiania jednostkom niepełnosprawnym aktywnego uczestnictwa w życiu społecznym oraz korzystania z dóbr na równi z osobami pełnosprawnymi z uwzględnieniem roli państwa w tym aspekcie: opisany zostanie kluczowy dokument zapewniający osobom z niepełnosprawnościami dostęp do dóbr, tj. Ustawa z dnia 19. lipca 2019 r. o zapewnianiu dostępności osobom ze szczególnymi potrzeb.
    This paper aims to identify the difficulties faced by individuals with different types of disabilities and the negative effects of these difficulties, including reduced opportunities to participate in cultural and social life, reduced access to socially desirable goods, and decreased satisfaction with life. Attention will be focused primarily on determining the impact of barriers on the lives of individuals with disabilities. To do so, I will analyse found material that includes the obstacles that they have to face and how they affect the well-being and overall life of individuals. Ways of facilitating the active participation of individuals with disabilities in society and the use of goods on an equal footing with non-disabled people will be identified, taking into account the role of the state in this aspect: the key document for ensuring access to goods for people with disabilities, i.e. the Act of 19. July 2019 on Ensuring Accessibility for Persons with Special Needs will be described.

    Twardowski Andrzej, Controversies around the social model of disability. Culture – Society – Education no 2(16) 2019, Poznań 2019, pp. 7–21, Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-0422. DOI: 10.14746/kse.2019.16.1 The aim of the article is to present a critical analysis of the social model of disability.In the first part, the author discusses the genesis, essence and basic advantages of the social model of disability. Next, five major disadvantages of this model are analysed:/1/ avoiding dealing with impairment as an important aspect of the lives of people with disabilities, /2/ separating impairment from disability, /3/ assuming that all people with disabilities are exposed to social oppression, /4/ postulating the creation of an environment without barriers and /5/ assuming that disability is the basis of the identity of people affected by it. In the final part of the article, the author presents reflections on the possibility of creating a new, more holistic model of disability.

    The aim of this article is to provide a description and analysis of the social model of disability, and how it has developed during the past 40 years. In the first part of article the author presents the origins and basic tenets of the social model of disability emphasizing its key elements: the distinction between impairment and disability and the phenomenon of social oppression. Next, he describe the benefits of the social model. In the remainder of this article, the author analyze the main weaknesses of the social model of disability. The paper concludes with some reflections on the need to change in understanding of disability.
