Opis:
Trust is a pervasive phenomenon in our lives. We trust our family members and lovers, our physicians and teachers, our politicians and even strangers on the street. Trust has instrumental value for us, but at the same time it is often accompanied by risk. This is the reason why it is important to distinguish trust that is warranted or justified from blind trust. In order to answer the question how trust is justified, however, it is crucial to know exactly what is the fundamental nature of trust. In the paper, I reconstruct three accounts of trust that operate with the assumption that trust is fundamentally a mental state – the cognitivist account, the voluntaristic account and the affect-based account. I argue that all of these accounts make reference to deeply held intuitions about trust that are incompatible with each other. As a solution to this unfortunate dialectical situation, I suggest to give up the assumption that trust is primarily a mental state. Instead, I argue for a position according to which trust is best understood as a two-place predicate that characterizes a specific relationship in which we can stand to each other.

Opis:
The study reviews the book You say you want a revolution? Radical idealism and its tragic consequences by D. Chirot (Princeton, Princeton University Press, 2020) and, at the same time, advances a viewpoint on social revolutions based on Thoreau’s imperative of the separation from evil. Why most social revolutions have dangerous and painful consequences while their promoters claim that the revolution will alleviate human suffering and will bring happiness? The study identifies more sources of the tragic consequences of revolutions than the radical idealism as suggested by Chirot. In contrast with the ideological, structural and individual violence of communist revolutions shaped by Marxist conception the study explores the value of Thoreauvian’s heuristic for the achievement of peaceful, non‑violent revolutionary changes. Self‑reliance i is assumed to be a vital engine of peaceful revolutionary changes.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to show the possibility of using conductive education system and its effectiveness in working with children and young people with profound intellectual disabilities attending rehabilitation – educational groups, in order to develop and form their self-reliance, and the grounds of autonomy. In the first part of text the author described the functioning of people with profound intellectual disabilities, pointing to their specific difficulties in the field of independent functioning. Then author showed the assumptions of conductive education system with regard to the objectives set by The Ministry of Education for rehabilitation-educational classes.Using of the possibilities inherent in the monographic method, the author presented rehabilitation-educational activities with the use of conductive education method, with particular attention to the aspects of the development of autonomy of children and young people with profound intellectual disabilities. The data for analysis and description was collected through the observation (direct, participatory and indirect – by video camera) of participants of rehabilitation – educational activities (15 persons), analysis of documentation (observation sheets and individual curriculums) and interviews with teachers of three rehabilitation – educational groups.Although it is difficult to determine the actual impact of Petö method on increase of self-reliance and autonomy of children and young people with profound intellectual disabilities, the collected information indicates the importance of the conductive education method – particularly in aspects of socialization, communication and agility.
