The primary aim of this paper is an attempt at the analysis of the prospective direct and indirect, short- and long-term consequences of COVID-19 pandemic for the individuals’ mental health. The secondary aim is to deconstruct the binarity of categories of “mental health” and “mental disorder” in the context of the global critical situation. The pandemic and its consequences such as isolation requirements as well as uncertainty in diverse aspects of life burden the individuals with the stress that results in the increase of anxiety and depressiveness, which challenges the public mental health care systems. Since the anxiety and depressive states are the reactions to a hazardous outside situation, the categories of “mental health” and “mental disorder” needs reconsideration. The theoretical framework of present analyses is determined by the theory of social (cultural) trauma. The method used for the present study is a meta-analysis of theoretical literature, the results of empirical research on COVID-19 pandemic published so far (mostly in medical journals), studies on psychosocial aspects of the previous pandemics (SARS and Ebola), and press publications selected on the basis of their content on mental health issues in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

Adolescence is a time of particular susceptibility to mental disorders. A programme aimed at facilitating emotional development in teenagers might be an important element of prophylactic psychopathology targeting young people. The activities proposed here are group activities and have several aims: to develop the ability to become self-aware regarding one's emotions and regulate their intensity; to foster an attitude of caring for oneself; and to teach problem-solving. What is of particular significance is shaping young people’s habits in being proactive in their personal development.

The paper presents case studies of geodesign and collaborative planning in the context of important cultural areas in Minas Gerais state, Brazil, “Pampulha” and “Iron Quadrangle”. The first area is at urban scale and has recently received UNESCO recognition due to Oscar Niemeyer’s work, and the second is at regional scale and of qualified landscape, important historical and cultural values, in addition to abundant natural resources (mainly minerals). The results allow a reflection on the role of interoperability and visualization applications to favor mental maps and better conditions in participatory planning, based on the methodology of Geodesign.

The article considers issues of handicapped children socialization. It shows the leading role of training children with the apparent disturbance of development in social and living and communicative skills. Big problem is the organization of employment for this category of disabled people and questions of society tolerance in connection with this problem. The article presents the Interregional Project on training society for tolerance to persons with disturbance of development. The aim of the present Project is, on the one hand, to teach the society to tolerant attitude towards people with development problems and, on the other hand, to improve the handicapped children’s skills of social behavior and to organize support of families with children with disturbance of development.

The purpose of this paper is to present background information about Syrian refugee mental health who arrived at Europe Union countries between 2015-2018 and provide statistics about prevalence to some mental health related issues. As well as illustrating the challenges and barrier to provide effective Syrian refugee mental health services. In addition, this paper presents some European countries experience in intervention program to improve mental health among Syrian refugee with providing examples about German and Jordan. This paper provided examples about some wide used programs in EU and middle East Countries that used to deal with refugee mental health issues such as STRENGTH program, PM+ and MHGAP. Many recommendations were suggested with focus on providing culture and language sensitive psychotherapy for refugee in EU countries.

In this article, I analyze the social determinants of the development of creative imagination. Due to its importance, this phenomenon is one of the main areas of research in pedagogy and psychology, which, however, despite numerous analyzes, has not been sufficiently explained. One interpretation of the understanding of imagination as a social mental activity is outlined here. This approach is presented mainly in the works of L.S. Vygotski and his students. Their analyses go beyond the mechanical understanding of the imagination and the dualistic division of the imagined and real worlds. The cultural-historical theory of the development of creative imagination describes it as an internalized system of social relations. The development of this form of imagination, according to Vygotsky, is the main goal of human development. The most effective way to achieve it is education, which “nurtures” in the child all manifestations of a socially creative imagination.

The following article concentrates on cognitive aspects of the translation. We are interestedin course of the translation process in the brain, which is one of the most complicated processes connected with language. It integrates not only the linguistic perception and production,but also code-switching. I have discussed cognitive aspects of translation and have attempted to pay particularattention to the cognitive conditions guaranteeing the correct process of translation. Translating from one language into another is, in my opinion, possible thanks to reference to the conceptual ground and information processing outside language. The division of a single mental lexicon common to two languages into two separate mental lexicons influences the quality of translation. The condition of a successful translation is the correct identification of the conceptual structure and this, in turn, is possible only after the division of the mental lexicons so that the lexical units have direct access to concepts beyond language and are able to activate them.

Network science is an emerging discipline drawing from sociology, computer science, physics and a number of other fields to examine complex systems in economical, biological, social, and technological domains. To examine these complex systems, nodes are used to represent individual entities, and links are used to represent relationships between entities, forming a web-like structure, or network, of the entire system. The structure that emerges in these complex networks influences the dynamics of that system. We provide a short review of how this mathematical approach has been used to examine the structure found in the phonological lexicon, and of how subsequent psycholinguistic investigations demonstrate that several of the structural characteristics of the phonological network influence various language-related processes, including word retrieval during the recognition and production of spoken words, recovery from instances of failed lexical retrieval, and the acquisition of word-forms. This approach allows researchers to examine the lexicon at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels, holding much promise for increasing our understanding of language-related processes and representations.

Stanisław Mikołaj, son of Agnieszka, nee Izbicki, and Stanisław Treter, the king’s chamberlain, was born on 19th November 1776. When he was seven years old it turned out that his mother was mentally ill, most probably suffering from schizophrenia. In the 18th century mental and nervous disorders were very rare, and foreigners visiting Poland even thought they were characteristic of Poles. Certainly, mental disease in a family does not only affect the one who actually suffers from it, it has an impact on each family member and somehow everyone is involved. Agnieszka’s psychosis started with aggressive behaviour towards her family, and especially her son. She would destroy things which either belonged to him or were in some way related to him, she would scream at him, physically and mentally harass him. His father would usually buy the things the boy needed most, such as underwear, clothes and shoes, in well-kept secret. Agnieszka categorically opposed this and even “became stubborn and restless which influenced the atmosphere in this home”. Because of his mother’s disease and its influence on the atmosphere in the family, the boy often felt anxiety and fear, and sometimes even annoyance and despair. In November 1786 Stanisław Treter decided that it would be better if his wife stayed in Warsaw for a while. The atmosphere at home was becoming worse and worse, and their ten-year-old son required systematic and extensive education, while Agnieszka herself needed “professional” care. In the 18th century people who suffered from mental diseases would usually live with their families and be provided with good care and a kind of particular respect, unless they were dangerous to others. However, Agnieszka was completely unpredictable. Her irrepressible aggression was understood by her son as a lack of love and acceptance. He often felt lost and very lonely. His mother’s mental disease did not create supportive conditions for the development of the child’s emotions and mentality. Certainly, like any other child he loved his “Mummy” very much, so parting with her was a very difficult experience for the boy. Disharmony in the Treter family, which was the consequence of Agnieszka’s disease, developed in Stanisław Mikołaj patterns of instability, hostility and neglect. Thus it is not surprising that he became oversensitive, egoistic, combative and aggressive. We learn about Stanisław Mikołaj Treter’s difficult childhood from his father’s notes. In 1785 he decided to write a history of his son’s life and education, and it took him four years to write in 13 letters which are now kept in the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lvov.

The text is devoted to analyzing the narrative of parents of adolescents with mental disorders. Families in which young people with mental disorders are brought up are in a specifically difficult situation. Their basic assumptions regarding the safety of their existence are being undermined. They experience different emotions, usually to a large extent. Parents undergoing this special experience were offered to participate in a support group conducted with assumptions of existential and narrative psychology. The purpose of this text is to present and discuss research results, focusing on the analysis of parental narratives obtained in the described context. They concerned, among others, the adoption of psychiatric diagnosis, the relationship between parents and children, and parental identity.

Experiencing institutions by adults with mental retardation still evokes controversy in literature. The study presents the results of the research on the analysis of narratives by long-term care centre workers. The reality they experienced revealed ‘subjective truth’ about adult lives of mentally retarded people. The analysis of the narratives showed both the personnel’s work which can support, initiate and create adult lives in institution and work which can impair people’s functioning to such an extent that they become passive, withdrawn and isolated. More often mentally retarded adults in institutions experience limitations which affect their lives and create them according to a particular pattern. The lives of adults with mental retardation depend on personnel’s approach and attitude towards a group.

This paper examines possible psycholinguistic mechanisms governing stem vowel changes of irregular verbs in intermediate English learners of German as a foreign language (GFL). In Experiment 1, nonce-infinitives embedded in an authentic fictional text had to be inflected for German preterite, thus testing possible analogy driven pattern associations. Experiment 2 explored the psycholinguistic reality of the so-called apophonic path by prompting two inflections for one given nonce-word. Data were analyzed using generalized mixed effects models accounting for within-subject as well as within-item variance. The results of Experiment 1 and 2 support the notion of a pattern associator and yield only scarce evidence for the psycholinguistic reality of a universal apophonic path. Therefore, the organization of irregular verb morphology in the mental lexicon of intermediate GFL learners might best be captured by the linguistic notion of structured lexical entries as well as the psycholinguistic mechanism of an analogy-based pattern associator.
