    The aim of the article is to analyze transcription errors occurring in the texts transcribed from Russian into the Polish alphabet which were published in the journal “Zesłaniec”. The results of the study show that the majority of errors are caused by Polish language interference and insufficient knowledge of the Russian language. Many errors are also influenced by the sounds of the Russian language. The obtained results are compared against the outcomes of (presented) previous analyses and high-frequency errors observed in studies to date. On the basis of the conducted analysis, the author proposes to modify the current Polish transcription system of the Russian language. He postulates that the rules used by the Polish Scientific Publishers PWN are replaced with a set of rules which would to a greater extent reflect the phonetic features of the Russian language as well as the transcription practices of Polish speakers.

    The aim of this article is to analyse the attitude towards the linguistic norm of the first-year students of Romance Philology in Warsaw through the auto-narration. By this tool, belonging to the qualitative methodology, the learner performs a retrospective introspection and thus ‘evaluates’ the learning, in our context – his learning of grammar. The stories of students-future philologists will be analysed according to the following aspects: the importance given to the linguistic norm (understood here as the need for grammatical correction), the perception of its ‘utility’ in relation to other competences and language subsystems, the relationship between awareness of the norm and the effectiveness / quality of communication in a foreign language.

    The article contributes to the discussion on the interpretation of processes taking place in the contemporary Polish language from two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic (ahistorical, to be precise). The author draws attention to the problem of not accounting for the achievements of diachronic linguistics, which is visible in the studies devoted to the analysis of the language used by the contemporary Poles. This leads to a situation in which the same research questions are not infrequently examined and interpreted in completely different ways in synchronic studies and those dealing with the history of language. Sometimes the differences are so vast that coherent scientific discourse becomes disabled. Enriching the investigation of the processes occurring in the contemporary Polish language with conclusions drawn from analysing historical sources is thus an important claim. Considering the diachronic perspective could be particularly beneficial for discussing the issue of the norm. Since a number of problems with language correctness result from tendencies and processes which have been happening in language for centuries, only becoming acutely aware of them can bring a change in understanding codification and the linguistic norm.

    The article deals with the description of the problem of tolerance and hostility that takes place during the period of a radical social change, the intensification of the inter-ethnic and interreligious conflicts, the establishment of the humane relations between people and states, all of which are characteristic features of modernity, which entails a considerable interest in defining the essence of these concepts, the development of the effective forms and methods of education, a tolerant personality.

    This article presents a subsequent stage of research into the textual variability of alterations of the phonetic forms in the first Polish edition of Księgi o gospodarstwie by Piotr Krescentyn (Krakow 1549). The ir || er group has been analysed as continuants of the Proto-Slavic conjunctions *ir, yr. The status of the discussed phonetic alternation depends on the core location and the textual distribution. It has been established that within the specific cores, the status of the alternation attested in Cresc is related to the status identified in other printed texts of that time and is considerably progressive. The second part of the text (CrescII) tends to be much more normalized where the innovative forms are preferred. However, this part of the text also tends to be most diversified with respect to the analysed phonetic alternation. A differentiation of the textual distribution of the opposite forms has also revealed two new text boundaries stretching between columns 409/410 and 524/525.

    The article is a continuation of research concerning textual differences of the distribution of variant graphic and phonetic forms in the first Polish-language edition of Księgi o gospodarstwie by Piotr Krescentyn (Helena Unglerowa, 1549). The analysis comprised the markings of the secondary anticipatory nasality. The article proposes a graphic interpretation of this phenomenon. Such interpretation results from the recognition as common a phenomenon of nasalization of labial vowels before nasal consonants. Different distribution of the studied forms in the text proved significant – it revealed not only the segmentation of text already known from previous analyses (graphic and phonetic – boundaries 429/430 and 485/486), but also three new, previously unknown text boundaries running between columns 477/478, 501/502 and 531/532. The convergence of the separated boundaries with a division of text into typesets was confirmed three times. This attests to a strong dependence of the discussed phenomenon on the type-setting factor. A comparative analysis demonstrated that as far as marking the secondary nasality is concerned, Księgi bear witness of the condition unknown in other prints from this period, which is closer to some 16th-century manuscripts, especially the letters of Stanisław Koszucki.

    Dorota Masłowska’s Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną employs various types of linguistic innovations. One of them is a mistaken selection of the number of nouns. This stylistic means results in linguistic humour. In the Russian translation of the novel reflecting this phenomenon should not pose any problems. However, neither of the instances of the stylistic means analysed in the paper was reflected in the Russian target text. It is difficult to determine why the translator did not attempt to show Russian readers a reconstruction of the language of the Polish text. As a result, Irina Lappo’s translation lacks the poetic qualities and refreshing touches of Masłowska’s language.

    Research into the literary Polish language of the 17th century was undertaken relatively late. No significant relevant attempts had been made before the mid-20th century. The first detailed studies were made in the 1950s while the 1970s marked significantly advanced studies on the subject. The first monograph of the 17th century Polish language was published as late as in 2002. However, the monograph, presenting the entire grammar system together with the spelling rules and phonetics, does not conclude research into this period as it is rather general and fails to discuss many major issues related to the language’s evolution, for example the regional conditionings of the course of the normalization processes. This is a shortage plaguing many works on the 17th century Polish language. Therefore, it is very difficult to reconstruct the emergence and geographic distribution of linguistic innovations, over time transferring into a language norm. As for the 17th century, we can only refer to the text norm (or a practical norm/usus). In the century in question, a codified (theoretical) norm had not yet been developed although the grammar instructions from that time include some guidelines on linguistic correctness. As printing had already been well developed, we have enough sources to reconstruct text norms and to show its evolution. By referring to studies and text overviews one may conclude that the 17th century inherited from the 16th century a system largely normalized on various levels: the spelling, phonetics and morphology. On the other hand, it also either inherited or produced co-functional variants which only aspired to becoming a part of the norm. On the basis of selected issues from the realm of phonetics, declension and conjugation, the article shows examples of norms inherited from the previous century and, more importantly, processes of new linguistic norms emerging in the 17th century. These processes have been presented not only in reference to the averaged status in the general Polish language but also, whenever possible, their course is presented in the regional varieties of the language. By resorting to the methodology and terminology developed by Irena Bajerowa, the authors have touched upon the issue of the regionally diversified rate of the normalization processes. However, with reference to the 17th century, we are not able to present many linguistic facts in this specific way. What we need is detailed statistical research that shows the share of the specific variants in the regional variations of the Polish language, in several synchronic sectional views (vertical time segments). This research procedure will allow to show the source of new linguistic norms, the rate at which they disseminate and which regions are the most innovative ones.

    The article is a continuation of studies concerning textual differences in distribution of variant phonetic forms. The analysis covers the forms being a part of four variances: jestli // jesli, -mdl- // -mgl-, miedzy // między and -mieszk- // -mięszk-. Different textual distribution of the studied forms proved to be significant – not only revealed the segmentation of text known from previous analysis (graphical and phonetic), but also 3 new, previously unknown text boundaries extending between the columns 510/511, 591/592 and 612/613. The strongest relationship with the job of a compositor is indicated by textual repartition of forms belonging to two variances: miedzy // między i jestli // jesli. With regard to the analysed forms the central part Cresc is most standardized, contained in the columns 138-384, whereas the most progressive (containing the greatest number of progressive variants) – is the section of text including the columns 381a–R10v. The completed study has also demonstrated that the boundary between the cluster Q and R established by Kazimierz Piekarski on the basis of a typographical analysis is also the boundary of occurrence of certain phonetic phenomena.

    The author first reconstructs standpoints adopted by the scholars from the Poznan-Szczecin schoolof legal theory regarding the linguistic meaning of a legal norm. This reconstruction allows certaindilemmas related to the adoption of analytic philosophy in the theory of law to be visualized. Inthe next section of the article, attention is paid to the influence of Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz’s philosophyon the understanding of linguistic meaning within the School. The problem of linguistic meaning may be explained by the definition of equivalence, the core of which is a set of directivesof a specific language. Finally, the author comments on the theses of Robert B. Brandom’s analyticpragmatism and the application of the latter to legal theory of Maciej Dybowski. Analytic pragmatismextends semantic research through an attempt to understand practice-related conditions.
    Autor rekonstruuje stanowiska przyjmowane w ramach tzw. poznańsko-szczecińskiej szkoły teorii prawa (Szkoła) dotyczące znaczenia językowego normy prawnej. Pozwala to na unaocznienie pewnych dylematów związanych z przyjmowaniem założeń filozofii analitycznej w teorii prawa. Następnie zwrócono uwagę na wpływ filozofii Kazimierza Ajdukiewicza na pojmowanie znaczenia językowego w Szkole. Problem znaczenia językowego może zostać wyjaśniony przy użyciu definicji równoznaczności, której rdzeń stanowi zbiór dyrektyw danego języka. W ostatniej części tekstu omówione zostały natomiast tezy pragmatyzmu analitycznego Roberta B. Brandoma i sposób jego aplikacji do teorii prawa przez Macieja Dybowskiego. Pragmatyzm analityczny poszerza badania semantyczne o próbę zrozumienia uwarunkowań praktycznych.
