Opis:
The past three decades have seen a heightened interest in integrating psychology and history in educational research. The aim of this article is to present interdisciplinary approaches combining psychological and historical perspectives in research on education and upbringing of children and youth on the eve of modernity. Using the examples of research projects that blend historical methods with Lifespan Developmental Psychology and Social Psychology, the authors analyse their possibilities and limitations. This article brings a new perspective to the studies on childhood and adolescence, with a special focus on people living in the Polish lands at the turn of the twentieth century.

This article presents selected aspects of potential intersections of archeology and art, the potential resulting from it, and also threats. We presented our interpretation of the perception of this issue, which is from the archaeologist’s perspective. We referred to specific examples that refer both to our experience resulting from more than a year of cooperation between the Faculty of Archeology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Faculty of Art Education and Curatorial Studies of the University of Arts in Poznań, as well as the external sources. An attempt was made to answer the question – how archaeologists can use the knowledge and experience of artists. We focused on the example of museology and the popularization of archaeological knowledge, how to make it more attractive, and to facilitate public reception. At the same time, we presented our observations on the examples of the use of archeology by artists as inspiration.

Contemporary humanities are confronted with a search for new forms of legitimization. Processes that enforce such a necessity stem from the technicization of contemporary culture. The methodologies of the humanities, and even their status as a group of academic disciplines, are questionable. The aim of the article is to argue that these external and internal problems in the humanities are interlinked with the state of being after the end of theory. This assumption is grounded on the thesis that the humanities need to find a solution to the impasse which could be described as the questions of what theory means and why society should be concerned about it.

The paper discusses several methodological problems in the necessary (mostly metaphorical) transfer of concepts from one discipline (or subdiscipline) into another one, especially when interdisciplinary research demands mutual understanding in terms of translation and correspondence of concepts. After differentiating between multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, the first is rejected and it is pleaded that the second and third should be combined. Several adequate and inadequate transfers of concepts into linguistics are dealt with, especially in the areas of morphology and language acquisition. Successful transfer is characterised by the formal transfer of new terms and their easy adaptation to already existing linguistic conceptions, especially between subdisciplines. Most often, further important differentiations of a concept cannot be transferred from the original discipline but must be added as enrichments within linguistics itself. This may lead to a split-up of concepts in different subdisciplines of linguistics. The concepts discussed are regression, self-organization, complexity, transparency vs. opacity, figure and ground, top-down processing, default, input, grammaticalisation.

Opis:
This article is about the possibilities of transdisciplinary research and was written from the perspective of the specialist in Polish philology. The paper also refers to proposals presented at the 12th Convention of Specialists in Polish Studies [Zjazd Polonistów] (2011) and the volume Nowa humanistyka (New Humanities) (2017). These texts postulated transforming the specific “identity” of Polish philology into cultural studies or anthropology of literature and an attempt to “build bridges” with other specializations so far falling within the paradigm of interdisciplinarity. The author proposes a better way to cross the traditional divisions between the humanities and sciences and presents the term “transdisciplinarity”, which is somehow connected to the metaphor of “jumping over the wall”. Consequently, he proposes the figure of the catapult, which is used in poetics, is derived from the military machine, and is now understood as a rescue launcher. Thinking in terms of catapult assume a ferocity and the risk of entering foreign territory, the need to enter into a direct, concrete and difficult relationship with another world (of matter, laws, methods and problems).

Interdisciplinarity is one of the contemporary lines of research in what are broadly understood as humanistic disciplines (although not only in these ones). It is reflected, among other things, in the megatrends of the 21st century, one of the most significant of which is the drive towards the transition from mono- to multiculturalism. Against such a background the contemporary issues of cultural linguistics and communication are outlined. The main thesis of the paper is that intercultural foreign communication is not a simple transfer of the knowledge of a new culture, but it consists in developing abilities to understand it, to combat prejudice and negative stereotypes with reference to one’s own culture, as well as to the foreign one which is being acquired.

The aim of the paper is to show the history of Polish gay novel and explain the very term. However, the essence of the research problem is not the history itself, but drawing attention to the need of adopting a multidimensional perspective in the deliberations concerning homosexuality in general (including gay novel). An interdisciplinary approach to the issue enables one to make observations concerning the impact of social and political realities on literature, while at the same time to analyse a work of art as a statement in public debate on homosexuality and homosexuals.

The relationships between science and poetry are usually examined from three perspectives: the lexicon (the use of scientific vocabulary in poems), the topical point of view (the presence of scientific motifs) and the subjective/authorial bias (the consideration that the fact of the author being a scientist confers scientificity to his literary texts). This article aims to deviate from the examination of the parallels between poetry and science to concentrate on the study of the intersections: in particular, the ways in which science and poetry deal with a) the process of symbolization, b) the development of procedures and c) the idea of creative disorder. The writing of the poet and chemist Angel Terron will be the testing ground for these investigations.

The notions of inter- and transdisciplinarity represent categories which the humanities frequently resort to in the discourse, but which remain difficult to define.  The attempts to do so are most often associated with subscribing to one of the possible models of interpreting relationships between individual disciplines of science. Mieke Bal’s concept of transdisciplinarity, which this paper discusses, envisages a framework where the privileged form of formulating scientific concepts would be in research practice that is rooted not only in the methodologies of individual sciences but most of all in the everyday practices and experiences.

Psychoeducation is currently used in many areas of life, including psychiatry. It is difficult to imagine the modern process of treating people with mental disorders without the use of psychoeducation as a necessary, permanent element of this process, in addition to pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Psychoeducational programs are used primarily in the treatment of people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and those suffering from bipolar affective disorder (BPAD). These programs are not only directed to the patient, but they are also addressed to their family members and friends. The article presents the possibilities of using selected psychoeducational programs, including the PEGASUS program, the Barcelona Psychoeducation Program and the Krakow Program for People with BPAD, as well as limitations of their application. The goals of these programs, their structure and effectiveness were also presented.

The article deals with the still relevant interdisciplinary research movement, which chose the relation between music and literature as the object of its analysis. The book by Libor Martinek and Małgorzata Gamrat, which is the result of cooperation between a literary scholar and a musicologist, is the main basis for and contribution to this discussion. Following the path set by P. Scher, these authors have found a methodological dimension, on which issues of literary text functioning in the music sphere are located, and on the other hand, attempts to define a so-called literary text’s musical aspects.

Genres are among the most discussed topics in popular music studies. The attempt to explain issues as complex and layered as how musical genres are born, how they work and what they ontologically are cannot avoid opening a box full of theoretical problems, questions and tools that need to be understood and used in order to say something significant on genre today. Despite the long story of this theoretical debate (roots of which can be traced back to ancient Greece) and the variety of disciplines involved (e.g. literature, music and film studies, but also philosophy, sociology, cultural studies and semiotics), it is difficult to find survey papers that can give an overview of such a rich research environment. This paper attempts to fill that void by trying to systematize the main (contemporary) perspectives on musical genre, in particular non-essentialist theories coming from the overlapping fields of musicology and sociology. Most importantly, its overview stresses the necessity of an interdisciplinary study of musical genre, which – as an exemplum of extraordinarily layered phenomenon of the human production of culture – intertwines technical, social, discursive, commercial, historical and other elements, thus requiring an approach capable of accounting for as much of its many layers of meaning as possible.

Opis:
This article introduces the special issue for Ethics in Progress entitled Environment, ethics, and sustainability: Crossroads of our future. Despite four decades of intense development in the field of academic and professional environmental ethics, environmental problems pose ever increasing ethical challenges. The discipline continues to undergo a transition from focusing on theoretical questions such as what kinds of beings deserve moral standing toward greater inclusion of the multifaceted dimensions of sustainability and environmental issues and policy formation. In this introductory paper, we present the development, some of the key disciplinary debates, and the continuing and emerging challenges in environmentalism as it intersects with sustainability. We emphasize the importance of increasing the range of interdisciplinary perspectives brought to bear on practical ethics. The papers included in this special issue reflect both the challenges that arise as environmental ethics continues to expand and explore new issues at the intersection of ethics, sustainability, and environmental research, and the interdisciplinarity required in our search to better understand matters related to environmental history, environmental inequalities, social and environmental value conflict, inter-generational justice, and ethical components of the human relationship with the world.
