    The article is dedicated to the Christian’s spirituality in the perspective of the sacrament of baptism understood as an immersion of a person in the life of the Triune God thanks to inserting him to the death and the resurrection of Christ. The Trinitarian formula guides to the communitarian dimension of the life of the baptized: in its vertical (Trinitarian) and horizontal (ecclesial) meaning. An exemplification of the established conciliar conception of the universal vocation of Christians to sainthood is I. Giordani’s original idea included in the recently published extracts from his book “Come in cielo così in terra”

    The article analyses Olga Rosenkranzová’s book Lidská důstojnost – právně teoretická a filozofická perspektiva. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola a Immanuel Kant (Human dignity: legal-theoretical and philosophical perspective. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and Immanuel Kant, Leges, Praha 2019). The author aptly shows how the concepts of the dignity of Giovanni Pico and Immanuel Kant were remodeled, deprived of their original context and perhaps made somewhat shallow when they found their way into jurisprudence.

    The paper attempts to present and explain the determinants of electoral competition and results, thereby influencing local political landscapes after the 2014 local government elections. The primary determinants analyzed in the paper include: (1) changes introduced to local government electoral law; (2) the socio-political situation in Poland before the local government elections; and (3) the character of local political arenas. A study has been carried out which demonstrated that political parties have withdrawn from direct electoral competition at the local level. The municipalities examined evidence that numerous local government activists have perfected the skill of “political adaptation to evolving social sentiments. The changes introduced to the electoral law, in particular the implementation of the majority formula in the elections to municipal councils, have resulted in the following, among other things: (1) mayors and their direct political backgrounds have been additionally empoweredin the local system; (2) election results have become disproportionate; (3) individuals lacking institutional political support have been scarcely interested in taking part in the electoral competition; and (4) councilors have focused on the matters of their own respective constituencies in their work. The most influential factor in local government elections and, thereby decisive in shaping the local system of power is the mayor (president of the town).
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i wyjaśnienie czynników, które wpłynęły na strukturę rywalizacji wyborczej oraz wynik wyborów, a w konsekwencji lokalne sceny polityczne po wyborach samorządowych w 2014 roku. Wśród głównych analizowanych determinant są: 1) zmiany samorządowego prawa wyborczego; 2) sytuacja społeczno-polityczna w Polsce u progu wyborów samorządowych oraz 3) charakter lokalnych scen politycznych. Prowadzone badania uwidoczniły zjawisko wycofywania się partii politycznych z bezpośredniej rywalizacji wyborczej na szczeblu lokalnym. Przykłady badanych gmin wskazują, że wielu lokalnych działaczy samorządowych posiadło doskonałe umiejętności „politycznej adaptacji” do zmieniających się nastrojów społecznych. Natomiast konsekwencją zmian w prawie wyborczym, a zwłaszcza wprowadzenia formuły większościowej w wyborach do rad gmin, są m.in. 1) dodatkowe wzmocnienie pozycji burmistrza i jego bezpośredniego zaplecza politycznego w lokalnym systemie władzy; 2) dysproporcjonalność wyników wyborów; 3) niewielkie zainteresowanie bezpośrednim udziałem w rywalizacji wyborczej osób bez instytucjonalnego zaplecza politycznego oraz 4) koncentrowanie się radnych w swojej działalności na problemach własnego okręgu wyborczego. Czynnikiem w największym stopniu determinującym lokalne elekcje samorządowe, a w konsekwencji charakter i kształt lokalnego systemu władzy, jest osoba burmistrza (prezydenta miasta).

    Przedmiotem artykułu jest kwestia ewolucji systemu wyborczego do Sejmu RP w latach 1991–2015. Szczególne miejsce w podjętych badaniach stanowiła kwestia formuły wyborczej, która oznacza zasadę przekształcania głosów wyborców na mandaty (można wyróżnić trzy formuły wyborcze: proporcjonalną, większościową, mieszaną). Przeprowadzone badania skłaniają do wniosku, iż kwestia formuły wyborczej stanowiła istotny aspekt prowadzonego w latach 1991–2015 dyskursu publicznego. Znaczne poparcie obywateli RP dla idei ustanowienia w wyborach do Sejmu formuły większościowej (w miejsce obowiązującej od 1991 roku formuły proporcjonalnej) powinno być impulsem do podjęcia pogłębionej debaty konstytucyjnej w zasygnalizowanym zakresie przedmiotowym, gdyż same zasady przeprowadzania wyborów powinny cieszyć się szerokim poparciem społecznym. Zwolennicy jednomandatowych okręgów wyborczych przywołują m.in. argument, iż wskazana formuła wyborcza zbliża przedstawicieli do narodu, gdyż ważniejsza staje się pozycja posła w okręgu wyborczym niż w gremiach kierowniczych partii politycznych (komitetów wyborczych) ustalających kształt list wyborczych.
    The subject matter of this article is evolution of the system of elections to the Polish Sejm within period between 1991 and 2015. The conducted research paid particular attention to the election formula, which is the principle for converting votes into mandates (we can distinguish three types of election formulas: proportional, majority and mixed). The research leads to a conclusion that the election formula has been a vital aspect of the political discourse between 1991 and 2015. Considerable support among the citizens of the Republic of Poland for the idea of adopting the majority formula in elections to the Sejm (in place of the proportional representation formula which has been applied since 1991) should be a stimulus for a thorough constitutional debate within the subject concerned because the principles of elections need to enjoy a broad social acceptance. Supporters of the single-mandate constituencies rise an argument that e.g. the said election formula draws the nation and political authorities closer together because position of the parliament members in the constituency becomes more important than his/her position within the managerial circles of the political party (the electoral committee) that develops the electoral registers.

    At the beginning of 2018, Liberty Media, the owner of Formula One (hereafter, F1), decided to drop so-called grid girls from the race weekends beginning with the 2018 season, which has created an opportunity to analyze the perception of hostesses’ status and their bodies in contemporary sport. The discourse on the decision and the partial concessions in its enforcement is analyzed within the theoretical framework related to second and third waves of the feminist movement and the concepts of sexual objectification and agency. The results reveal that the grid girls’ presence is perceived both as unsuitable for modern times, values and #metoo culture climate and as “normal” and a “good tradition.” Additionally, the grid girls themselves accuse feminists of having caused them to lose their jobs, arguing that, although their positions are based on physical attractiveness and a sexualized body, it has been done by them voluntarily and with pleasure. The discourse on gird girls in F1 fits into the critical discourses on female (sexualized) body images in sport, but, on the other hand, it includes persons who have usually not been taken into account because of their auxiliary role in sports events.

    This paper examines the relationship between the candidate’s position on an electoral list and the feasibility of winning a seat in the Sejm (the lower chamber of the Polish parliament). This research hypothesizes that winning a seat strongly depends on the candidate having a top position on the electoral list. This hypothesis is verified vis-à-vis the results of the 2015 election to the Sejm. The study confirmed the initial assumption, since it was found that nearly 82% of the seats were taken by the candidates from the so-called “seat-winning places,” namely the top places on the lists of candidates (the number of these places equals the number of seats taken by a given party in a given constituency).

    This paper presents an overview of the theoretical background on over- and under-politeness as well as on conventionalised irony. It goes on to explore these phenomena in relation to a collection of suppliant scenes by Euripides, since they are easy to compare in terms of the narrative pattern and the role performed by the characters. Along with other examples from the sample, this article attempts to propose that the idioms οὐκ οἶδ’ ἐγώ ‘I am not aware that’, ὡς ἔοικε ‘it seems’ and βούλῃ (+ subj. / acI); ‘do you want…?’, εἰ βούλῃ ‘if you want’ are likely cases of conventionalised overpoliteness.

    The article is a study of politeness formulae retained in the eighteenth-century epistolography expressing certain feelings and attitudes of the sender towards the addressee, namely: good will (z prawdziwym afektem), faithfulness (z należytą obserwancją), gratefulness (z nieskończoną rekognicją), duty (z niewzruszoną obligacją), obedience (z najgłębszą submisją). One can treat them as one common category of etiquette because of their approximate semantic value, common pragmatic aim, very similar formal structure and the same final location in the epistolary text. The analysis was based on 305 original, handwritten and unpublished eighteenth-century letters written by several dozens of noblemen. The presented formulae appeared mainly in contacts between the representatives of the aristocracy and the nobility.

    The one-group experiment attempted to investigate the impact of blended learning on teaching English for Vocational Purposes (EVP). To maximize its internal and external validity, methodology of triangulation was employed. The results obtained indicate considerable progress and statistically significant differences between the pre-treatment and post-treatment scores in the overall acquisition of technical terminology and in the area of vocational vocabulary learned productively.

     The main idea of the paper is a presentation of the stage cycle Licht, absorbing the composer for over one-third of his active creative life. The question arises as to the generic affiliation of Stockhausen’s opus magnum: close to operatic works by Luciano Berio and Mauricio Kagel or to pop productions of works by Philip Glass? Analysing the subject matter and content of Licht, as well as its message and the means of expression employed, it is difficult not to discern the unification, within a single work, of what might appear to be contrasting musical genres and kinds of theatre (mystery play, expressionist drama, happening). It is worth remembering that the composer himself does not employ any specific generic term except for Opernzyklus. He often, however, refers to the forms and genres of theatre, cultivated in many different parts of the world, which have inspired him (e.g. in Malaysia, Japan, Bali, the USA), and he admits to the evolution of his views on faith. Can the substance of Licht be reduced to a common denominator? Can the heptalogy be called ‘sacred’ theatre? Or - on the contrary - an extremely profane, ‘pagan’ avant-garde spectacle?

    The article is an analysis of the films Mc. Człowiek z winylu and Jaskółka, both directed by Bartosz Warwas, in terms of how they present the image of the Polish People’s Republic. In the first movie, the director presents the subject in a humorous way, through the use of a dockumentary formula. Jaskółka, on the other hand, is a feature film, in which the image of the PRL emerges through a retrospective presentation of the history of the life of the main character – Agnieszka Jaskółka. Both films have a number of references to the Polish Cinema of Moral Anxiety as well as the use of archival footage, but they present it in a different manner.
