Opis:
The aim of this article is to point to the factors that started the process of family names formation in the Eastern Slavonic area. It also discusses extralinguistic reasons for fixing them as permanent surnames.  The official usage of surnames by the representants of different social groups in Russia proceeded as they were receiving full civic rights. It was also connected with the development of administrative structure of the Russian State. The key factor conditioning the usage of family names by the representants of the future generations was the inheritance of grounds and other material goods within a family. It seems that two types of Russian surnames could evaluate spontaneously: 1. the family names of Russian aristocrats motivated by toponyms, and 2. the family names of craftsmen derived from names of professions and occuppations. The creation of the majority of Russian townspeople’s and peasants’ surnames was a concious and controlled process. However, it took into account the trends in forming patronymics and their tendency to become the family names.

Opis:
The subject of this article are patronymic surnames of the Poznań Jews used during the period from the 16th to the 18th century. According to the author of the article nonderivative patronymic names, formed according to the model given name + one’s father’s given name, were dominant in the given period. They were based on the German anthroponomastic system. This model was definitely imposed on the Jews in the whole area of the Prussian Partition under a Decree issued in 1797 by king Frederick William II. Under the Decree the Jews were made tax liable and were obliged to have hereditary surnames. The author of the article proves that until the end of the 18th century patronimic personal names were based directly on the given name of one’s father (in every generation), so they were not family surnames. The author also describes other types of patronymic personal names of Jews well-documented in historical sources of Poznań.

Opis:
The author considers Polish surnames in Chehov‘s prose from two basic positions – formal and semantic. A Polish surname in Chehov always appears in an intense semantic context and involves ambivalent meanings. Nearly all Polish characters of his works are administrators, managers, or beautiful women. An important point is that a Polish surname in Chehov, regardless of the real national identity of its bearer, starts to function as a sign. Within this aspect, deep semantic structures of the text are involved. According to the author of the article, an adaptation of a foreign surname within the text to be received by the Russian linguistic consciousness is generally effected through an anagram and identification to sound structure of the text.
